Appreciate the follow up video. Glad you have been able to substantiate many of the irregularities from your previous video. There's a been lot of oddities floating around the community.
Regarding the grounding totem... it is dependent upon the incoming spells. If it's an immediate damage spell, it should destroy the totem. If it's NOT an upfront damage spell (sheep, mind control, a curse, a dot etc.) then the totem is not destroyed and can continue to absorb spells.
It worked this way in vanilla 100%. It works this way on most private servers also, but a handful of them get this wrong and remove the totem after any spell.

On clearcasting not affecting the natural mp5 - that works for all 0 mana spells.
As a priest with cheaper instant casts (disc) with the item from BRD that reduces mana cost of spells by 100, you can have Renew rank 3 (105 mana) -> (~92 mana or sth) -> 0 mana, and be able to do something like (clearcasting-spell from disc talent, Greater Heal maxrank) -> trinket -> spam renews rank 3 for 10s with mp5 for the entire duration.
I'd guess same thing applies for any other spellcasting that have decent spells that cost less than 100 mana, ending up with this trinket pulling in quite a bit of mana.

In vanilla so things might have changed (Did not play beta)
> Grounding totem
While grounding totem is dropped you gain a buff. While the buff is active spells will be redirected to the totem.
The buff is only removed when tot totem dies. So depending on timings it might be possible to ground 2 spells (or more if from multiple sources)
If someones casts a spell with cast time and travel time for the projectile and strait after a instant cast no travel time spell both spells would have been grounded by the grouding totem.
Since the projectile could not be redirected once it was fired. But the instant cast would destroy the grounding.

Yes. The spell was already "Locked" on your grounding totem. the other 2 (or 3 bolts) will not be redirected to the shaman

Initial tick went to grounding totem. Then Priest stopped channeling because target was destroyed. Still triggered GCD
> Warlocks / imps and Grounding Totem
Depends on the timing. If one of the spells finished casting while the other was still en route to the Grounding totem both would have been grounded.

I don’t think you mentioned this when talking about weapon skills, but FYI when you’re leveling up a new weapon skill each windfury proc counts towards your skill. So you can sometimes level up that weapon skill 3 times with a single strike
I really like the mix of my favorite wow class and my college stats class
I can 100% confirm the Fire Nova totem aggro issue was back in vanilla. It's one of the few distinct "annoyances" I still remember very clearly. I learned very quickly that you have to have some threat on all mobs nearby in order to not have Fire Nova totem die to a boar hoof.
Using both this video and the more comprehensive chart from your last video we can generally conclude that:
- Windfury is likely the best imbue for any Enhancement Shaman (IF ≥3.0 speed weapon)
- Frostbrand is likely the best imbue for any Elemental Shaman (IF Elemental Fury Talented)
- Rockbiter is likely the best imbue for any Restoration Shaman
- Flametongue is trash (with the strange exception of a 2.1- 2.3 speed anomaly)
- In every other circumstance you should almost always use Rockbiter Weapon.
You may consider an alternative imbue when targets gain additional Resistances/Armor but generally this is a good rule of thumb.

For leveling; I think flametongue rank 1 is worth grabbing when you still have white gear. At low levels it's a consistent amount of magic damage for dealing with high armor mobs, especially when you're otherwise just auto attacking; waiting for mp5 regen.
Finally! Hype.
Windfury should scale better with gear unless I got my math wrong. 584 base AP with a 53 dps 3.0 speed weapon Rockbiter = ~142 dps and Windfury = ~145 dps. With a base AP of 1168 and a 87 dps 3.0 speed weapon Rockbiter = ~218 dps and Windfury = ~252 dps. Sorry if this was a double post, first post didn't show up.
This weekend people asked which weapon enchant is better RB or FT and all the shamans in my (temporary) 500 man guild agreed FT is better than RB. I tried to explain that weapon speed plays a significant role and also 'Elemental Fury' and 'Elemental Weapons'. They were so sure that FT is always better than RB and once you get WF that's the best one hands down...
I told them there is this guy called Melderon on TH-cam and that he is a total nerd that made like a dozen shaman guides and that they should check him out ;)
I'm disappointed by the weapon imbuement data. Would it not make more sense that frostbrand and flametongue would switch places in average DPS, because frost has the slow effect on it as well? Does this mean that flametongue is useless outside of fights with extreme armour and cold resist (questionably relevant since armour seems to be low across the board anyway)? It would be sad if it had no practical application.
Your notes on dungeon ease make me a little wary as well. I remember dungeons being one of the least exp/hr efficient ways to level, but I did it anyway because they were fun. I hope they release some kind of statement, if everyone is noticing that they seem to be a breeze.
ANYWAY, don't want to be a downer, this video has so much hard work in it and it's so great to see you present it professionally like this. I think you're the world's leading shaman scholar at this point.
I honestly believe the reason we're seeing many people talk about the dungeons being a breeze is largely due to the experience we have in WoW/MMo's in general now. For many players WoW was our first true MMO experience. We would naturally be worst players 15 years ago than we are, overall, today assuming the players has continued to play MMO's over the decades.
@@matthewmiller6667 Something that's become extremely clear with Raggy going down within like 5 days of launch is that players are just flat-out crazy amounts better than they were back in the day. Not to mention that now you also have entire guilds composed of people that not only do this shit for a living but also are some of the best players in the world. You had neither of those during vanilla launch. Even the best players of the time were just scattered across random guilds at the time but now you have them all working together in a single guild and as a result some real crazy shit can be pulled off.
Makes you appreciate the work those programmers went through to get private servers just right.

For your section on weapon buffs, you noted that you used Flurry. For that to have been possible, you'd have picked up Thundering Strikes for 5% melee crit. Could that be a reason for Rockbiter's clear lead on the other enhancements?

Really love your Shaman videos! Ty vm. This maybe a silly request but would it be possible to do an optimal Ele / Enh spec video for players that want dps close and long range with melee and spells and not worried about putting points in the resto tree. With maxed out gear I would love to weapon swap to smack face but also have CL crits if that’s at all possible. Many thanks again.

A quick question, which I fear I might know the answer to: If you, running Enhancement with the 2hand talent, respec and loose that talent, do you also loose all weapon skills that you got with 2h Axes and Maces?

I mean I was kinda looking forward to it but dreading it if that makes sense.
I'd still argue flametongue still has value, In a PvP setting it is consistent damage and bypasses armor. Frostbrand is good for burst of course but prior to having large amount of intellect for crit or spell damage, flametongue is still a good choice for consistent damage when your target has high armor.
Ability scaling came in 112 just so you know it became done once they added like now that you're seeing holy skill has went up in 15 points or Elemental skills have went up in 15 per level now
Awesome amount of research. I love it. You didn't mention anything about Ravager proccs storing WF proccs. Any chance you've done some testing of this? I'm referring to Cdew in Cath, pretty much oneshotting everything after Ravager procc.

I have a hard time deciding on Tauren or Troll. But Tauren gives the shaman a fkn STUN, and that is worth quite alot I must say.
Also a bigger hit box which can be good if you're melee, but if you're a healer / caster it will make it harder to get away from melee players/monsters

I am curious though, I haven't seen any spell coefficients for Flametongue Totem. Does it have one? Or does the Flametongue totem buff, utilize the target's spell power? Also, does the flametongue totem gain any benefit from Ele fury?
The theory crafting behind this build has been focused on how this build effects the Shaman's DPS... what I am curious about is, does this build effect Flametongue totem in a positive way, and if so, is it enough to consider Flametongue totem over Windfury totem? I know this is pretty MEME but, my curiosity is peaking. Thanks again!!!
It seems like windfury scales better with gear. Rockbiter is a static ap buff right? If windfury does more damage based upon your ap, then it should scale better with your ap than a static buff... which scales not at all with the rest of your ap.
WF provides a static AP buff to extra attacks, similar to rockbiter.
So it ignores all gear except for the weapon? Or did I misread that

I'm noticing something odd, all the classic info I've been seeing has been pointing to the 10% frost brand co. With your guide here saying it moves upward to about 11.5% or so with improved weapon imbue talents. But in my play it's looking like it's closer to 40-45% unless I'm doing something wrong. FB rank 4 at lvl 40 for me is base about 95 damage, my strikes are proccing at 112-113 with 41 extra frost spell power. That's just about 18 damage extra, 41*.45 just about equals the aforementioned 18 damage given about half a point variance upward. Am I doing this wrong? Or has it been changed?
Edit: Also, this is a kick-ass guide, you guys put a ton of work into these, thanks so much from one little shaman amongst the masses!
Edit 2: It could be a product of the extra 15% damage on the improved talent? 15% of 95 added to a 10% of 41 is also about 18 damage :/

Hey, you should not try the ET kiting with Tauren, as tauren has a biger hitbox. That means, bigger "leeway" effect

You can still kite with leeway. It's just a lot harder. Even more so for shaman since the mob will just leave the range of the totem.
I can confirm that arcane missiles has one charge go to the grounding totem (destroying it) then the other charges hit the origional target
Did they buffed ft? Because its consistancy is way better now. I mean it easily competes with rockbiter. I am around 40. And if my weapon with rb hits between 110-150, ft is hitting like between 90-125 plus 30 each hit, which is like the same and ft is even better on higher armors. Maybe beta was like that? I am switching between them in each rank and recording.
The issue is crits. If ft crits, only the base damage crits, the magical portion crits are spell based and will crit way less often. You should be stacking agility which makes RB hit much harder. If RB never crits then they are more comparable

Saved an Orc Shaman name yesterday. Though I may try to convert it to a Troll Shaman in 2 weeks. But honestly I think I prefer Orc.

I may have missed it in the video...but I noticed today that in ghost wolf form, i was getting skill ups for weapons. Meaning my 2hd mace was getting skill ups while biting my target...
Elemental Furor works with Frostbrand and Flametongue you say, so do those enhancements overtake rockbiter when leveling als elemental?

When saying that a talent does not affect the coefficient, do you mean that the multiplier only affects the base damage or that it just apply normally to the spell damage ?

Hi, really appreciate the in depth videos. I was wondering if you have any thoughts or any information on how spell damage affects Frostbrand vs. Rockbiter on fast weapons? (i.e. a resto or ele shaman tryna quest who has alot of spell dmg gear)
Interesting, so using Rockbiter on a 1h as Elemental is straight up better than FB/FT? Even with high crit I can't imagine the Elemental Fury buff is going to even come close to surpassing the numbers you got.
You are immune to sap/seduce/mc while in ghost wolf, I remember doing this in 2005.
I'm pretty sure that Windfury extra attacks can proc on hit effects. Because I was able to get multi-procs of windfury during Ravager procs. This is all from memory though and I might be wrong.
Ravager use to be able to proc itself. If i was whirlwinding and windfury proc'd I would have a chance to proc another whirlwind.

I have a question about the graph that begins @ 16:00 : Does the DPS statistics of the Flametongue Imbue only count the single-contact damage OR does it also include the residual fire damage-over-time? If Frostbrand out DPSes Flametongue when taking the subsequent damage-over-time effect, then it's hard to imagine when Flametongue would be worth using. Maybe against a rogue to keep him from re-stealthing?

Did you test Earthbind kiting with orc and troll too ? Because Tauren's hitbox is way bigger than other races.
Others did. It's not as bad but still very hard to do

I don't understand what you're talking about the grounding totem.
In the clip the shaman puts out the totem and it soaks the mages fireball and then dies. Just as intended.
What are the "5 spells" you mention?

No, only hard casts, i.e lightning bolt
maybe the mobs you were killing had fire resist built into them and thus flametongue perfomed worse. it would make sense considering you are killing crocodiles that live in the water and have thick scales. i think more tests need to be done.

Do spells that become instant cast with Nature Swiftness gets the spell coeficient of being instant or the game treats it as if it was a 3.5s cast?
Am i understanding right the Co-efficent = The actual dps done as opposed to the tooltip after downranking is in effect? I.e 85% of the tooltip dmg is being done on rank 7 lightning bolt and 31% on rank two etc?
No, spell coefficients are for bonus damage. Tooltip damage doesn't change. It's how much additional damage. Let's say the tooltip says damage is 100. You have 100 spell power. You would think the total damage would be 200. But since the spell has a 3.0 sec cast, the damage total is 185.71
Could you test the scaling of DPS from windfury with better gear? Because you get extra attacks with regular ap plus a bonus instead of just a flat ap bonus from rockbiter or flat extra magic damage from the others
I can confirm weapons that have a damage proc can proc from windfury attacks. This is a screenshot with the mace from princess in Mara where all 3 attacks proc the weapons "wound". imgur.com/gallery/CtNM1qa

correct, weapon imbues are not considered spells for procs

Another thing to test. Does the totem range increase stack with the tier set bonus that does th same. I think its tier 1
Yeah I wondered that too, but I guess we will have to wait a while for that information. I figured i would spec it end game and if I get the set bonus test a totem and see if they stack (or more likely another shaman will do that first). If it does not stack just respec that talent point.
Hey guys, I'd like to ask for a test on something. The flametongue totem scales with spell power? If so, does it scale to the SP of the person buffed or to the shaman's SP?
Could part of the leeway issues of earth bind kiting be caused by the increased model size of Tauren?

Quick question: Which professions should I pick on Classic launch as a shaman? I'm planning on Skinning (for money) while leveling but im not sure about the 2. one. At 60 I'll prob change to Mining/Engineering for PVP
Many people recommend alchemy for PVE and Engineering for PVP late game. Eng brings many cool things, but all three shaman specs (4 if you count tanking) suffer from mana issues, and alchemy helps with that significantly

So I may have missed this, but why does elemental become more dominant leveling at around 40-45? I am 39 enhance rn and am contemplating making the switch. But, why does elemental get so much better around this level?

sry my english, the question is its betther rest /enchancemn or resto / elemental hybrid i have to heal but doing GOOD but its necesary follow farming quest or grinding so u need make dps no ? full Restoration isnt a option i guess im in lvl 56 its so hard to get party like dps i have gear to "Start" healing what do u think bro ?

Wind fury starts competing with rockbiter at slower weapon speeds. Is there any testing with windfury in conjunction with the flurry talent? My thought was if you have flurry then auto use windfury regardless of weapon speed.
All of these tests were done with Flurry. I mention that at some point. Can't check at the moment

No, beta was only till 40 so we couldn't test it

The wording of the talent is very troubling. It seems that it may not stack. Will have to be tested in Classic.

They do not. Also did a similar test on hyenas, FT was poor in that as well

Spell coefficient is the % of spell power that actually increases the spell's effectiveness.

How about flurry proccing from windfury? Would that push windfury up to the top?
Also, Rockbiter has a set amount of dps it can buff you for. Windfury scales with your gear. so there will be a point where WF is the obvious answer.
@@johanlahti84 From my brief looks at BiS gear for the various phases, it looks like WF becomes the only option some time during/after phase 2. Before then, RB will be a viable choice, if not better. Small disclaimer, that's unbuffed. Procs could drastically change things, as you essentially get an extra two hits per five swings. With something like Nightfall, you'd probably want WF just for proc rate.

does shadowguard get the same spell power coefficient as lightning shield?
Per a lot of old sites (but not the lists) it was 26.7% (total of 80%) which is funny because that is what lightning shield ended up being.

I only know Burning Crusade, never played shaman in vanilla. It certainly didn't pulse immediately in BC. No idea about vanilla.
