- Live on German TV - 26th August 1967. This was the second day of colour tramsmissions in Germany. "Gala-Abend der Schallplatte" was a live show from the 25th Funkausstellung IFA in Berlin intended to showcase international artistes and the new technology of colour TV. Yes folks - over 40 years ago!!

In loving memory of Mary Josephine Stroble-Glaser 1898-1989. I think of her every time I hear this. She played it (Somewhere My Love) for me on her piano every time I visited her. I met her when I moved next door to her when I was 5 back in 1963!

I only knew Martino from The Godfather. As I've mentioned before, I had indeed been deprived. But no more. I am less than 60, but love talent. Al Martino was great, and everything I find from him is damn good. This technology bullshit--ipad, ithis, ithat, but TH-cam, ah, is certainly good for something.
Agree completely and am a big fan of Martino. If you like this kind of singing, I suggest you also look up folks like Eddie Fisher, Tony Martin, Vic Damone and Perry Como. Great voices from a great era of singing and songs. Fisher especially is just brilliant.

Al Martino - Wonderful voice, superb arrangement, his fantastically expressive face adds to the song. As a side note: watch the audience, isn't it amazing how people look TOTALLY different doing different time periods? NOBODY in the world looks like this audience anymore.

Omar Sharif in einem ganzen Feld Narzissen ... dieses Gelb, dieses Lied ... Sehnsucht. Gefühl pur! Genau in diesem Moment musste ich gehen, weil ich sonst den letzten Zug nach Hause verpasst hätte ... erst viele viele Jahre später konnte ich dann endlich das Ende des Films sehen. Die Gefühle von damals ... dieser Mann, diese Liebe, diese Sehnsucht, die gelbe Symphonie der Farben .... sie leben für mich in diesem Lied. I must admit i didn't know Al Martino, that well. Was more Humperdinck and Tom Jones fan. But this is a very good singer too, or better was cause he died a few years ago.

I wish songs like these existed today and singers looked respectable and behaved respectably on stage akin to having strong character. Somehow people need to bring this back like how the swing culture was revived in the 90s.
