I remember the first time I listened to it. It was my first day of highschool and it’s been my comfort album for the past four years of my life and I have so many memories and history tied to this album
In the song “Nights” when the beat switch happens that is the halfway mark of the album. The whole album is 1 hour long and when the beat switch happens it’s at 30 minutes.
If nobody‘s mentioned it: the backing vocals on „Pink + White“ are actually Beyonce.. How badass do you have to be to have her for background vocals without even featuring her
Nahh, the badass part really is having the option to have a full Beyonce feature in the form of a verse or something, but instead choosing to just simply use her for background vocals. That's some real-ass self control. Anybody else wouldve just used her whole feature for clout. And he does this with multiple artists on Blonde: simply using words or a line or even just one word or sound from generally big artists like Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Pharrell, Yung Lean and of course Tyler.
The final line of futura free is How far is a light year? How far is a light year? (A second, a thousand years?) A light year is equivalent to ~9.4×1012 km. The song is 9.4 minutes (9:24) long.
He mentions hurting his hand in the song. This is a reference to his fight with Chris Brown, as is the album cover with the bandage on his finger, 4 years later after he appeared on the Grammys with that bandage after the fight.
frank ocean and the weeknd are two of my favorite artists, but while the weeknd's music takes you into a journey through his dark world, what I love about frank ocean's music is how nostalgic it can feel. the production paired with his fragmented song writing let's you as the listener fill in the gaps, which usually means reminiscing about the past, what-ifs, and the people who aren't in your life anymore
The outro of Futura Free has an interview with Ryan Breaux, the younger brother of Frank Ocean. He recently passed away after a horrible car crash (he was only 18) and it hits me in the feels every time I hear it :( Ryan was so hyped when he heard that he was on the end of the album, breaks my heart.

you nailed it on “Ivy”. that’s what Frank and his producers were going for. the track sounds familiar, it SOUNDS nostalgic. reminiscing on a PAST relationship that didn’t work out. something that’s FAMILIAR with a lot of people. this whole album is just beautiful.
This album is about identity. The album name is blond(e). The feminine spelling of the word is 'Blonde' which reflects the tone of the first half of the album which is light, happily melodic and has imagery of summer. Then, in 'Nights' there is a beat switch which is exactly halfway in the album (at 30minutes in the hour long project). This beat switch signifies the volta in tone to the other (masculine) side - 'Blond' The feel is much more brutal, delves into his character and is harsh in it's realities and ideas. This duality in the album of the both sides mirrors his sexuality, identity and mentality throughout. If it's not clear by my para, I love this album :-)
There’s a double meaning on the last part of self control. When he says I,I,I know you gotta leave, leave, leave, take down some summer time, give up, just tonight, night, night. Translation : (I leave tonight). Also on solo. In some parts he says “so low” as well. And “inhale there’s heaven” (breathe, smoke weed, hence inhale). Also “in hell, there’s heaven”. And... the fact it says “Blonde” as the album name but “blond” on the album cover. (Blonde being feminine and blond being able to apply to anyone, he used this duality as a reflection of his own gender/orientation ). The beat switch at Nights happens exactly halfway through his album which defines the change of mood for the entire album. (Another form of duality)
ive seen in bdc magazine that blonde represents a feminine side in us all while blond represents the masculine one. there are 2 other alternative covers, (probably not meant to be actually used) that depict the album name as blonde and blonded, with blonded representing the mix of feminine and masculine, either in frank or everyone. but personally, i think frank didnt want to name the album blonded because it wouldnt have the blonde and blond titles to hold it up and give it meaning, thus presenting the duality by making one the album title officially while the other the album title on the cover.
@Shoot the words that he repeats 3 times over ( *i,i,i* know you gotta *leave, leave, leave,* take down some summer time, give up, just *tonight, night, night* ) when put together say "I leave tonight."
Blonde is at least 3x better than channel orange. And channel orange is great. Blonde refuses to get old no matter how many times you listen to it. In fact even on my probably 200th listen it’s gotten more interesting
Blond is pure nostalgia I even got his boys don’t cry magazine. It blows my mind that there’s a lot of people that are just now listening blond this year. Blond reminds me of driving thru Dallas highways at night And channel orange reminds me of driving on lonely desert roads in west texas omw to Colorado. Man... I wish I could go back to 2012 when I was in 9th grade and listen to channel orange and to 2016 freshmen year of college to listen to blond for the very first time again. It freaking blows my mind that I’ve been listening to Frank Ocean for 9yrs now and everybody treats him and his albums like they came out a month ago. And to me futura free is his most underrated song.

Blond’s atmospheric-ness really gives room for the listener to channel their emotions into each song. I think that’s why whenever I listen to it it’s a new experience for me every time!
I still can't believe how much I disliked this album when I first listened to it (& I gave it multiple tries!) It wasn't until earlier this year when I heard a song by him that I loved then realised it was on this album so gave it another go and somehow everything just clicked. This album is perfection and just gets better with every listen! Hearing him be so vulnerable about heartbreak, his sexuality, loneliness... ugh! So beautiful 💙
Same. I'd listen to Lorde's cover of Solo on her Melodrama World Tour, and I'd be wondering how the og song sounded like. I searched it on YT, listened it and I liked it but I didn't love it. It wasn't till last year that I'd give Frank another chance and it casually happened while I started to experience changes in my life (adulthood, sexuality, depression, heartbreak), things Frank sings a lot in this album. I felt seen, understood. It's such an amazing album.
I’m gonna be honest I usually get annoyed when people call blond “chill”, but for first listeners I totally understand why they might describe the album that way. I think a more fitting term would be atmospheric, because Frank does leave a lot of room in these songs for people to focus on the lyrics and sit with their emotions a little bit. If you want a more “boppy” album from him than I definitely recommend you react to his previous album, Channel Orange.
Atmospheric is perfect! I definitely caught on that it was filled with nostalgia and allows people to fill in the blanks with their own life experiences. In the moment, first time listening, I was struggling to find the exact word. You just gave me it 👏👏👏
Im so jealous of u being able to listen to this masterpiece for the first time...if there was any album i could listen too for the first time again i think it would be this or channel orange😭

Right and I didn't even like it when I first heard it, and then it started consuming my ass and I could never imagine someone avoiding work with that much mastery in it. It's crazy good
My favorite album because you can just soak in these songs for so long and right when you think you know the whole album, a song just clicks in your brain like you've unlocked some deeper meaning, its so weird. And it happens almost at random. I was doing laundry one night and had the album playing in the other room and when the transition happened in Self Control it hit me sooo hard I was like "Damn this has to be the best sounding piece of music I've ever heard." Basically had the same reaction you did on your first listen. Just bliss.
When this album came out i had this huge crush on a girl and everytime i listen to this album i remind me of those times and kinda reminds me of her in a good way.
I first listened to Frank Ocean a year ago with my boyfriend, who had been listening to him for a while. After a long time of listening to this album on repeat, I shed a tear a least once every time. Ivy, self control, and pink+white will forever have a special place in my heart.
Something to notice is that the woman in be yourself gives a strongly anti-drugs message and then the first line of the very next song is "Hand me a towel im dirty dancing, gone off tabs of that acid"
You gotta listen to Endless, the visual album that was released a day before Blonde. Like Blonde, it’s a mesmerising listening experience and actually probably has his best vocal performances period
I cried the first time I heard Ivy, Self Control, the beat switch in Nights, and White Ferrari. Honestly, I wish I could go back to the first time I heard Blonde. It was 2 in the morning and I was high as shit. The room was dark and it was just me visualizing the music.
Listening to Frank Ocean for the first. your mind will be travelling to another beautiful world along with your soul and then will come back to your body and You won’t the same, you’ll heal and be a better version of You 2.0.
Hearing Blond for the first time ever was amazing. The fact you get to at this moment in time is amazing, at of all albums of all time it’s Blond 1 / TPAB 2
You're so great! The way you vibe to the album takes me back to my first listen so vividly. It's also really nice to get a woman's take on the album since not many of my girl friends listen to Frank Ocean:)
I get the chills listening to his music especially white ferrari 🏎 I used to be nonchalant about him till I took a hour of my day to actually listen to him which changed my whole perception.
The different types of pitches in Franks vocals simulate the parts of life they played in, so in Ivy his voice was a bit higher pitched than his normal voice, that’s because it was a younger version of himself telling the story :) Also this album tells a story about exploring love (with opposite sex aswell) and after nights it switches from experiences with men to experiences with women. If I remember correctly 😅
Nostalgia Ultra is amazing, but I personally think this album is masterful on too many labels both vocally and musically. Whereas Nostalgia Ultra focuses more on songwriting and vocals as far as what to show off. Just my opinion though.
she's so lucky to be able to listen to blonde for the first time, i'd kill to have that experience again

Unbelievable how just watching someone else experience this album for the first time makes me weep. Undeniable classic. Great vid!
I love that every time I listen to that album I get the same chills from the first time I listened to it
"I don't even know how to describe this right now"... The entire album
You're so great! The way you vibe to the album takes me back to my first listen so vividly. It's also really nice to get a woman's take on the album since not many of my girl friends listen to Frank Ocean:)
What a masterpiece of an album. I'd pay large amounts of money to hear it for the first time again. 😭🤣
Eat some shrooms and it'll feel like it
I get the chills listening to his music especially white ferrari 🏎
I used to be nonchalant about him till I took a hour of my day to actually listen to him which changed my whole perception.
It’s been 4 years and I still can’t get over this album
Seigfried is one of my fav songs ever great reaction subbed fosho

@@klinerd6945 it’s in my top 10 it’s a amazing song
I love seeing the reaction of people hearing the beat switch in nights for the first time.
I wish I could listen to it for the first time again. that album has gotten me through 2020
The different types of pitches in Franks vocals simulate the parts of life they played in, so in Ivy his voice was a bit higher pitched than his normal voice, that’s because it was a younger version of himself telling the story :) Also this album tells a story about exploring love (with opposite sex aswell) and after nights it switches from experiences with men to experiences with women. If I remember correctly 😅
2016 was probably the best year in music and it’s not even close😂
god the things i would do to hear this album especially pink + white for the first time again. i actually started crying 😭
To this day I’m still waiting on a longer version to good guy🥲
id give a trillion dollars to experience this album for the first time again. chasing that first time high
I'm a simple man, I see frank ocean and I watch
You should listen to Daniel Caesars Freudian. He’s pretty similar to frank I think. I think you’ll like it
i agree
Listen to Nostalgic Ultra by Frank Ocean, his best project in my opinion and very emotional and nostalgic.
I absolutely agree with this. Nevertheless, he can do no wrong in my eyes!
Nostalgia Ultra is amazing, but I personally think this album is masterful on too many labels both vocally and musically. Whereas Nostalgia Ultra focuses more on songwriting and vocals as far as what to show off. Just my opinion though.
I love this channel so much. You deserve to be so famous i’m being honest
every time i watch someone listen to blond for the first time i get goosebumps during nikes
Imagine listen BLONDE for the first time 😍 Frank Ocean is timeless 🌸
the way i wish i could experience listening to blonde for the first time again
I feel sorry for anyone who hasn’t heard this album - genre bending masterpiece.
This album gets better the more times you listen to it.
Also Please listen to Channel Orange. I want to see your reaction on my favourite track, especially John Mayer's Guitar solo part.
Nights is my favorite!! i love him so much. could quite actually die for him.
the deeper voice part in self control was actually by young lean
I would restart life just to listen to this masterpiece again 🥲
her reaction genuinely brings a smile to my face i’m just like “ U LIKE THAT ???? WAIT UNTILL U HEAR ___ or ___ “ LMAO
So good. Blonde is one of the best albums of the 2010's
its weird to see someone not belting the lyrics while listening to this
the interviews in futura free is from his little brother who passed earlier this year :.(
Id give anything to go back and listen to this album again for the first time, I fucking love Frank.
I love seeing people's first reactions to the beat switch in nights LMAO
I WISH I could re-listen to this entire album for the first time again... wow
