I understand why pokemon can't do this type of game because they don't know how to merge the turn based combat and competition with this overworld well. I absolutely love it. A friend of mine told me about it. He's a PlayStation player. He wanted to play it so much that he bought a Series S. I already had one and Game Pass, so it was a no brainer for me, I had to try it. The jank is definitely there, but it doesn't kill the game for me. I am about level 11ish, I have yet to go into any dungeons or fought any bosses yet. I've been taking it slow, so that I can truly absorb the game and learn the best strategies that I can. I also want to learn the building system better too.
Your friend should've just bought a $500 mid-range PC at that, not only would he had gotten the most updated build of palworld it also would've been a significant upgrade.
Pals don't evolve, but you DO get moves as they level; and there are Skill Fruits both on the ground occasionally and from statically located trees in the world.
I would love if they added evolutions for some later on to make more of the basic pals more useful. Like the starting sheep and cats are cute and all, and maybe when leveled up can be powerful but why would I ever use them beyond that when I could have a freaking dragon haha
The world customization is amazing, you can speed up or slow down day or night, alter the amount of items in your world, turn off drop loot on death, alter the amount of items dropped by pals, to name a small small fraction of them.
Game is so much more fun than i thought. Been playing Pokemon, and they have all been terrible on the switch honestly. This is different, but much more fun and engaging.
Even if it’s built on unreal engine “stock assets” it’s not really a problem. The assets are there for folks to build. Game is fun to play with friends. I wouldn’t play it alone though lol.
Besides inventory dropping setting that you can modify : You are able to teach and customize movements to pals You can end up riding pals: water swimming, Air flying and land running this is an amazing feature. You can end up having and auto feed bag for you and the pal Pal can automate resources gathering.
I'm not a huge fan of survival games, so having the casual setting for the game's difficulty makes it so that dying isn't a huge drawback. My first impressions over two hours of gameplay last night were as follows: 1. First launch was a crash. Oh no, this is gonna be bad. 2. Second launch was successful. Completed character creation, loaded into the world. Tutorial is easy to follow. This is good. 3. Doesn't feel like I'm constantly starving, unlike in some survival games like SCUM, or any Skyrim survival mod. This is good. 4. Being able to capture my first pal without having one given to me. This is good. 5. Weight limit was rough, then I built a storage box. This is good experience. 6. Built my first base. First iteration didn't have enough room for more than a bed, but was hastily built to withstand the elements. Good lesson. 7. Refined base, built more. Resources don't feel like they're hard to get. Good. 8. Spent a lot of time from there capturing pals and doing palbox missions. This felt engaging and a good change of pace from working on the base and constantly planting berries to feed all my Lambs and Cats. 9. Ultimately met an unfortunate end at the hands of a level 16 pal roaming around. I didn't even have the right pal ball to catch it. Lesson learned via tooltip and experience. 10. Found a rare cat pal, it was all sparkly. This felt great. After that, I had to get some sleep, but my initial impressions of the game itself is good. I'm not really liking how much seems to have been lifted directly from Pokemon, but my hope is the designs change closer to release. This is early access, after all. Phasmophobia just used free assets to start with, for instance. Not the same, of course, but they eventually got down to replacing assets with original assets. Could happen here.
Palworld has a little of everything from games released in the past few years, Elden ring, Zelda, Ark, Minecraft, Pokemon, Satisfactory. It has a lot of issues but the potential it has is incredible especially with modding
This game has got Nintendo fans butt hurt. I have played through to level 50. The game starts feeling much more like Ark to me towards end game. The flavor of Pokemon is there but the amount you can do with your Pals just makes it feel much more like Ark. Either way its clearly taken a lot of inspiration from heavy hitters. The game is really fantastic and I feel sorry for people stuck in their world of hate because Pokemon similarities. They are missing a really good game.
It’s a game for 2024 that I never anticipated. But, the hype is real. It’s so good. Won’t surprise me if it sneaks its way into GOTY candidacy. Bold statement, I know. But, despite its flaws, Palworld is a world of perfect imperfection
As someone who loves Pokémon I’m desperately waiting for someone to become an actual competitor, so It lights a fire under the Pokémon company’s ass. The shadiness behind the developers, and the AI accusations don’t help though. Happy people are enjoying though.
I love Pokemon, but they have long refused to fix the internal company problems that cause their games to release at a much lower quality level than other Nintendo titles. I love Digimon, but Bandai(and now Namco) have always failed to give the series a cohesive direction to follow, resulting in a lack of continuity and focus that continues to result in every release doing its own thing and not knowing how to actually serve the audience. I love Monster Rancher, but Tecmo(and now Koei) have always refused to build upon the strongest foundations they created, especially MR 2, choosing instead to reinvent the wheel every game, implementing concepts from more popular games and removing what made it original. I'm so tired of incompetent leadership.
The AI accusations have no proof at all. It's actually disgusting people are just making crap up because they don't like the designs. The developer talked about Buzzfeed and Photophop using AI and people completely took it out of context to claim he is using AI. Also, most of the Pals look completely different from pokemon. Way more detailed. If anything they look more like final fantasy creatures. The simple ones do look similar to pokemon, but so does every simple creature. Any game with a cartoon penguin, fox, Dino, etc will look similar. And they do. Simple digimon look like pokemon, but predate pokemon. Blazikin looks like a digimon. So does Blastois.some simple Yu Gi Oh monsters look like pokemon too. My point is, there are only so many ways to make creatures. Eventually one will have some traits the others have.
What most people are overlooking and those that havent played valheim/ark, is this game is also very much a social experience type of game one to play with your significant other or good friends, its light hearted, not very competitive and allows for you to chill out and to be able to socialize without being too into a game.
Been playing this on PC GamePass and I’m loving it! It feels more like Ark with tamable monsters to me. Which is fine cuz I love survival games! One of my favorite genres!
So Co-Op is 4 player on all platforms. Dedicated Servers are what goes to 32 players. You can turn of the drop things on death in world settings, but personally I enjoy having the drop items and pals tho that's probably just being used to it from other survival games. The simple hunger and hot/cold system makes more approachable like minecrafts hunger bar specially since it's easy to deal with. I'm enjoying the game and see the potential it has that hopefully they capitalize on.
Btw . You can set what happens when you die. To drop either only items but keep equipped gear. Or drop both. Or simply drop neither. U can set it at the beginning along with a bunch of other custom settings. Oh and the pals learn more moves from just leveling hp. And the game does tell you when a dmg type is strong vs another. For sure the game is great on PC.
I thought I'd check this out 'cause "Pokemon with guns" sounded neat, but I was also surprised how different it is. I was hooked pretty quick, though, and spent about 4 hours I should have been sleeping in my first sitting. XD
One thing to note: The steam version is a lot more polished over the gamepass version. The steam version feels like its gets updated more frequently and has less bugs. The video is clearly made from the launch gamepass version. The steam version has fewer graphical glitches.

I can't stop playing Palworld. I've put in over 30 hours in 3 days. It's the game I didn't know I wanted but desperately needed. Even though it borrows heavily from a lot of different games, somehow it is still unlike any game I've ever played. They've taken the best elements from several different genres and somehow blended them all together perfectly into something I can't put down. Well done! P.S. My favorite part of the game is the base management elements and how you can put each unique Pal to work on a specific task. Need a cooler for your food so it doesn't spoil? Need someone to chop wood for you? Yep. We've got a Pal for that!
I feel so bad for the Enshrouded devs because that's set to release on the 24th and Palword has absolutely taken a lot of its potential sales. I kinda hope they just delay Enshrouded for a month to give it some breathing room.
These kinds of games are genius. Why spend years carefully crafting a giant open world, when you can have countless players do the work for you, unknowingly; and call it a game
Actually, the player base for those type of game wanted an empty world so they can influence the world in their own images. I know because I once was that type of player in the past.
They do gain moves as they level up. There's also ability seeds you can find to teach a Pal a specific move. But I'm lvl 20 something and nothing has evolved.
This game is in the honeymoon phase, I bet. The UI is fugly and the gameplay looks like the bog standard survival-crafter snorefest. The graphics also look like some asset flip.
Just wanted you to know that you can change the whole dropping stuff if you start the world yourself and choose to not drop your worn equipment and only drop the resources in your pouch
Yeah having to repair everything all the time and eat then feed your pals then do this and that just gets tedious and I hate it also I feel like this game tries to be too many things and it’s a bit convoluted.
This game has a lot of good ideas that The Pokemon Company should DEFINITELY consider implementing into their mainline Pokemon games to give them more variety on what to do than just battling and catching Pokemon, battling trainers, fight evil corporation team, get all 8 badges, fight Elite Four and Champion and be the winner. Ideas like creating a Wanted system due to you attacking or harassing the town's folk which will make officers with their high level Pokemon attack you till you either pay the officers for damage royalties or you start doing good deeds, or the idea of some Pokemon helping you out on small busywork tasks like building stuff or maybe sending some to fetch you certain items, etc. These types of ideas would make new Pokemon games go above and beyond the typical Pokemon formula; which let's be real, this formula has been done to death at this point and they have not done anything major to expand on it with the Switch era (other than Pokemon Legends Arceus, that game in several ways did evolve the formula in a good way, too bad Game Freak and The Pokemon Company didn't continue this when going into Scarlet/Violet).
U can change if u want to loose everything when you die or not in the settings, so if you don’t like to loose everything, when you die, then just set it on easy or something, I don’t know what the name of the setting was, I don’t remember but I know, for a fact that you can actually change it if you want to!
This game looks like a lot of fun. It combines a lot of my favorite things from various games. It seems like pokemon, breath of the wild, minecraft and some other games. For the price and seeing that it's early access, it seems to have a lot of stuff in it.
The 30 player count is reserved for dedicated servers just wanted to let that be know as unless you pay for one you won’t be able to hit that and also haven’t tested it myself yet but I believe the 4 players is restricted to 4 at a time so if one of your friends leaves another can join in their stead
It should be said the world creation is very Minecraft, so you can turn off the drop all inventory if you want to. I would say dig into the world settings and you will probably find ways to turn on or off features you don't really care for so it can be easily played with younger or less experienced players.
I gotta say, this one is weird. It feels like you did this one in bad faith just to be controversial. I’m not one to say an opinion is wrong, as it IS a biased take, but a lot of things you criticize are actually not true, can be changed or adapted. And yet still, you end the video saying you had fun and liked it. As has been said, when you start the game, you can pick your difficulty, and you even have a custom setting that allows you to tailor the experience to what you want from the game. Don’t like the grind of farming materials? You can literally make a single pickaxe/ax hit give you 5+ pieces of stone/wood per hit. You don’t like the XP grind? You can more than double the XP gained, which, in an era where XP boosters are sold for real money is worth gold. Don’t like dropping everything when dying? You can literally have NOTHING happen to you except some damage to your gear which will need to be repaired. And you know what? If it is TOO EASY or TOO HARD, you can literally quit the game, and change and customize the settings to get what you want! Like I overdid it and found the grind to easy ( was getting almost 10 materials per hit, plus the “rare” resource, so I lowered it). Also, Pals do have and learn moves. You can’t always chose what moves they use, they’re often autobattlers to help you in fights, but you can craft harnesses/equipment to use them like a “gun” or ride them as a mount, in which case you can use their moves. Also, just looking at UI, you will see notifications telling you that your pals gained a certain move. I’m not entirely sure how it happens, if it’s level up, or beating certain pals with them, or whatever, I only played like 3 hours so far. They never sold the game based on the idea that it has a good and deep story, but it has a storytelling frame like souls games. You have to find journals and other items that will tell you the situation of the world you’re in. Again, you can like it or not, but there was a lot of “bad faith” attitude imo that I wanted to clear up. I’m not even there yet because I haven’t played enough, but pals have particular traits suited to be used in bases or in combat and you can selectively advance those by “fusing” pals later on. It looks very shallow but is actually not that superficial ( it’s not the moat complex either, not going to try to sell it like that). A lot of what you complained about can be fixed by barely even trying to look for a solution. What I really like about the game is that you can spend as much time as you want. Want a challenging grindy game? Go for it! Don’t have time to spend hours hitting rocks? Well make it so you barely need to do it! Anyway, just my two cents. It’s not an amazing game it even a GOTY candidate. It’s some innocent stupid fun if you like the genre, the idea is original, but if you don’t like survival games, it won’t do it for you, even if you like Pokemon. It’s ARK with a “pokemon element to it”, not the other way around.

It's not a thing exclusive to this devs. Every game that enters early access has a rather high chance to die, not seeing release ever. Games like Grounded or Baldur's Gate 3 are different because they have bigger companies behind them, and even those took around 2 years to go from beta to release.

I played it late lastnight on my sister's xbox until sometime after 4AM- I've noticed on the side of the screen where exp/leveling pops-up it will sometimes say ''Insert Pal's name learned Darkball'' or etc... When looking i can see new passive-thingies(not main abilities)/attacks in their information So they do learn attacks & gain secial passive abilities as they grow. Also if a Pal breaks out of a ball it will say [Insert name] broke out of the ball the cheeky Bast- (full word but I'm not sure if I am allowed to type it in the comments here) lol Not sure the exact wording but the last 2 words are exactly what comes on your screen with an exclaimation point! 😂 Can definitely say I've cursed at the screen in the past when a Pokemon broke out of a ball-- so even though juvinile, I found that a little funny to find in this game. 😅
I hope they optimize and build upon this game. It ran okay on series x and I haven’t gotten to combat yet but it’s so far left a better impression on me compared to TPC latest entries.

I can confirm you can capture people, did it yesterday in the middle of a dungeon
@gibmeaway100 so what do they just hang out with your animals on the farm? 😂
@@ThepurposeofTimefor all intents and purposes they're not really any different from the Pals. They can do Handiwork tasks in your base, they'll wander around your base, fend of attackers, etc. only major difference really is that they don't have any of those bonus abilities for being in your party.
The message when you capture humans is hilarious
@@BobbiasI'm going to grab some and test the cleaver on them.
I’ve enjoyed it too. The first time I died, when I got back to my base, it fell under attack by a bunch of killing pals… and I had nothing but my fists, and some low level pals to defend it haha. So, now I have a chest that I keep a backup set of gear in no matter what. In the moment, I was so annoyed. It all turned out okay though. Now I think it’s pretty funny. A good learning experience for sure. Thanks for the video Jon.
Great news: You can look into the "World options" and customize your difficulty and completely turn off dropping anything if you die.....
You can tweek a lot of things in this game. Definitely should check out the world settings
I wish this game had an adventure mode with a good story and it was playble fully offline with a phisical release, maybe one day.
That's not the goal of this game. It's a "streaming game".
@@Terranigma23 I know, I just want more competition with pokémon, maybe one day a great game will come out... maybe digimon!
I understand why pokemon can't do this type of game because they don't know how to merge the turn based combat and competition with this overworld well. Pokemon started as a handheld game, so their game is designed around that. They tried with legend series, and start to open up a bit more, but I believe they can still be better. I am not sure how much they can learn from palworld but we shall see.
@@NivexGameplays there is a ton of indie game who are better than Pokémon in my opinion (Cassette Beasts, Coromon, Monster Sanctuary, etc). Also, I miss Yokai Watch. Its embarrassing as a Pokemon fan, to see alot of the fans act like everything is a Pokemon rip off. They don't own the Monster Tamer genre.

Since Pokemon S & S the series has went downhill. 💩
At this point i enjoy the spin off games more than the main series. Pokemon LA & Pokemon Snap for recent examples.
I've been mentioning that MANY of the early Pokemon were almost direct copies of DQ enemies, or only very slightly changed, on twitter. And Pokemon fans keep getting mad and blocking me.

I heard Pokemon Legends Arceus is the best Pokemon Switch game. Is that true? Or it also is just as bad as all the other Pokemon Switch games?
@@generalcjg i have that game. It is the least bad, but still a bad game.
This game works with the UEVR injector as well, so you can play it in VR!
Even if it’s built on unreal engine “stock assets” it’s not really a problem. The assets are there for folks to build.
Game is fun to play with friends. I wouldn’t play it alone though lol.
Besides inventory dropping setting that you can modify :
You are able to teach and customize movements to pals
You can end up riding pals: water swimming, Air flying and land running this is an amazing feature.
You can end up having and auto feed bag for you and the pal
Pal can automate resources gathering.
I'm not a huge fan of survival games, so having the casual setting for the game's difficulty makes it so that dying isn't a huge drawback. My first impressions over two hours of gameplay last night were as follows:
Agree. This is just another boring ass survival / base-building game with some "pokemon" running around randomly in the world.
It’s a game for 2024 that I never anticipated. But, the hype is real. It’s so good. Won’t surprise me if it sneaks its way into GOTY candidacy. Bold statement, I know. But, despite its flaws, Palworld is a world of perfect imperfection
As someone who loves Pokémon I’m desperately waiting for someone to become an actual competitor, so
It lights a fire under the Pokémon company’s ass.
People are just mad that their designs are high quality comparable with pokemon. They are too invested in pokemon to look at anything else.
@@tomasdqwx2781What are you talking about? Nobody would even be playing this game if it weren’t for the dollar store Pokémon
I love it , the greatest meme game to be actually good ever 😂
What most people are overlooking and those that havent played valheim/ark, is this game is also very much a social experience type of game one to play with your significant other or good friends, its light hearted, not very competitive and allows for you to chill out and to be able to socialize without being too into a game.
Been playing this on PC GamePass and I’m loving it! It feels more like Ark with tamable monsters to me. Which is fine cuz I love survival games! One of my favorite genres!
This game is better than every modern gamefreak game.
Why i love your channel when you are wrong you are not afraid to admit it
You can set your world settings to not drop items on death.

I’m 8 hours in and it’s giving me original viva piñata vibes.
They do gain moves as they level up. There's also ability seeds you can find to teach a Pal a specific move. But I'm lvl 20 something and nothing has evolved.
You can change what items you drop in settings. You can make it so that you Drop nothing or that you keep everything equipped and drop the rest.
From someone who played 2000 hours of ark, this is a better game.
That's a lot of hours
The 30 player count is reserved for dedicated servers just wanted to let that be know as unless you pay for one you won’t be able to hit that and also haven’t tested it myself yet but I believe the 4 players is restricted to 4 at a time so if one of your friends leaves another can join in their stead
It should be said the world creation is very Minecraft, so you can turn off the drop all inventory if you want to. I would say dig into the world settings and you will probably find ways to turn on or off features you don't really care for so it can be easily played with younger or less experienced players.
This is Ark with Pokemon elements. Thats the best way to put it.
How Jon said "it absolutely exploded.........online" 🤣🤣🤣 TWSS
It’s ARK with a “pokemon element to it”, not the other way around.
i had the same feeling . its like he rushed it just to make a vid for clicks . and it seemed rushed cause he really didn't care for this game . i'm guessing after seeing the other tubers review it and he seen their numbers i guess he hopped on the band wagon as well ... i guess.... but it is weird he barely had anything good to say about this game lol . he rushed it so fast he didn't even bother looking at the settings and options lol
I was been excited to play Palworld, however after learning about the CEO, and his love and support for NFT games, and AI generated games. History with it and other projects he's working on with the studio, I don't want to support the studio.
The devs have a track record of unfinished games stuck in early access limbo. Makes me wonder how long palworld will be in e.a.
They have it planned for at least a year
They only released one early access game before Palworld, and it's still getting updates, and they have released a roadmap of 2024 for it.
@@Tom-yz3opwith out Craftopia there’s no Palworld. I see a lot of what they did with that game in Palworld as well. It was free on Gamepass as well. It got boring real quick for me.
It's not a thing exclusive to this devs. Every game that enters early access has a rather high chance to die, not seeing release ever. Games like Grounded or Baldur's Gate 3 are different because they have bigger companies behind them, and even those took around 2 years to go from beta to release.
First impressions are this Game has no idenity and its just a parody mashup of different legacy franchises
INVENTORY DROPPING YOU CAN SET IT OFF IN THE SETTINGS THAT WAY YOU KEEP EVERYTHING JUST FOR YOUR INFORMATION EVERYONE

building survival genre + BotW + lololol Pokemon with guns = perfect recipe for Steam
To get 32 players, you have to host a dedicated server, or play on one of the public ones. The limit for ordinary co-op is still 4 on PC.
the hunger meter is a lot more for the pals than the player. feeding them food they like makes them work faster and bigger pals need more food
I think it's off to a good start. If it wasn't on game pass I probably wouldn't pick it up. But I will agree the first few hours feel slow until you get your base running a bit
Wait until you catch a human 😂
it's GTA , Zelda breath of the wild , and Pokemon all combined into one
current palworld is fine and fun, but what'll really make it amazing is mod support
This is the first survival game I could actually get into. Ark didn’t click with me, Minecraft didn’t either but this? I don’t know something about it just resonates with me
I played it late lastnight on my sister's xbox until sometime after 4AM- I've noticed on the side of the screen where exp/leveling pops-up it will sometimes say ''Insert Pal's name learned Darkball'' or etc...
oh yes. each pal has multiple skills to unlock. collect same pal types to lvl up that pal. also assign them to work stations for xp and materials.
I hope they optimize and build upon this game. It ran okay on series x and I haven’t gotten to combat yet but it’s so far left a better impression on me compared to TPC latest entries.
