Please, dear Marvel, keep posting this kind of content, I love to see how things were back in the day. The interaction between the readers and the writters, with all the opinions from the readers at the end of the comic books were something that helped building most of the main stories in the comics. X-Men is my favorite group of super heroes ever, I love them so much, and I'm glad to see these videos showing a little bit more of the background from back in the day.
My older brother was a kid in the early 1970's and he collected comics during that era. He has a great collection, including 2 copies of X-Men Giant Size Annual #1.
I grew up in the 70’s reading comics and the Uncanny X-Men was mine and my friends favorite. When the New X-Men came out long time readers would send in letters saying they hated the New X-Men ESPECIALLY Wolverine. They were dismissive of issue #96 ( Night of the Demon) in this video but the speech Wolverine gives after he “kills” the demon absolutely defined his character and made him my favorite
Stan Lee created the X-Men, but Claremont and Byrne defined the X-men forever. Those two made it their own, especially Claremont. Hickman is doing a wonderful job, but nothing can touch Claremont's legacy on the X-men.
Notice back then they printed the FULL ADDRESS of people who wrote letters in. I think magazines and comics only stopped doing this in the early 90s. Imagine that on the internet...
I haven't been excited over anything Marvel comics in years. Bringing Hickman back, and for the X-Men is about as exciting as it gets. To be honest, most Marvel comics suck now. But this news kindles a renewed sense of faith that Marvel is putting the comics side of their business on the right track.
Abel Hiol technically a mutant in his race. Alien mutants exist too. That where shape shifting skrulls come from not saying Thanos came from skrulls but does have similarities
As a child of the 80s who grew up when X-men was the biggest franchise I still can't believe how humble it's origins were. Claremont/ Wein, Byrne and Cockrum worked total magic!
I can’t believe that they didn’t talk about the change in Wolverine’s mask from his first appearance in Hulk 180/181. Apparently they drew his mask in Giant Size #1 like it first appeared in Hulk 180/181. But when Gil Kane drew the cover, he drew Wolverine’s mask like Batman’s with the pointed ears. They then had to go back and change the mask before the issue was printed. Wolverine’s new look was an accident
It's funny, in a way X-Men in the 21st century has become what it once was in the 1960s-early 70s, just a second banana unimportant title. sad but in a way fitting that it's come full circle. 1975-1999 will always be the glory days.
The X-Books have been falling from grace since quite a while, now. They used to be the best-selling books of the company, but then someone decided they didn't want to promote a franchise with movie rights in someone else's hands... Bad move, now they're back and are a bit forgotten.
There's 2 of these selling on Ebay. The starting bid started at $30, since no one was selling these particular comic book 4 days ago. 2 days left on the bidding day, and both are bidding well over $100 with alot of harassment comments. So what is a reprint? To me, a reprint would consist of front and back being identical to it's original except for color scheme. Clearly 50 cent to a $3.99 price cover would not be considered a reprint. And there is a problem of 1st appearance. Please comment back
I read X-Men #94 and #95 were originally meant to be Giant-Size X-Men #2. Marvel then decided to discontinue the Giant-Size books with original material and made them reprints then discontinued them altogether. Giant-Size #1 did well enough in sales to stop the reprint run occurring in X-men and start original material again in #94.
I still have my beautiful copy and it is signed by all 3 in pen, on the inside page because we didn't get comics signed on the cover when I was a kid. My neighborhood friend, Dave Cockrum would be the last to sign the book in 1993. He even drew me a Night Crawler in marker as a gift! And this book will always keep going up in price. Too many KEY characters to hold it back.
To think, this was made in the middle of the Cold War and a well know time of racism at large, marvel made a team consisting of people from different parts of the world. Even though the team started rock but slowly they depend of one another and became friends and even a family. Among the team include a Canadian, a German, a Russian, an African and even a Japanese. And it didn’t matter where they’re from, they work together well and had fun times together as friends. That’s why I love X-men from this point to now.
Other than promoting the new X-books and to a small extent Dark Phoenix, Marvel should do these mini documentaries for fun for other Marvel characters
Please make more of these documentaries, thank you!
Fantastic Four next!

Hi Len Wein I know it's too late but thank you for the creation of the X-men characters.

Wolverine was a Timber Wolf swipe.
I'm so happy Marvel have the X-Men back... Now we finally have all this gold and priceless X-History releasing... I'm all here for it yo !
The real x-men never came back, I was one of the hardcore fans of the REAL x-men.
Stan Lee created the X-Men, but Claremont and Byrne defined the X-men forever. Those two made it their own, especially Claremont. Hickman is doing a wonderful job, but nothing can touch Claremont's legacy on the X-men.
The Real x-men were 100 times better.

So crazy lunatic comic books fans have always been around and always end up loving what the hated. Ha
My favorite Mutants are Wolverine, Havok, Sunspot, Storm, Scarlet Witch, Phoenix, Rogue, Magik & Quicksilver.
AssembleA mine is Mad Jim Jasper, Marquises of Death, and Thanos*
@@bobisconsumed520 Thanos is a Mutant???
@@AssembleAA You Forgot Hulk.
@@noru2555 Hulk is Mutate. Not a Mutant.
Abel Hiol technically a mutant in his race. Alien mutants exist too. That where shape shifting skrulls come from not saying Thanos came from skrulls but does have similarities
The funny thing is that I prefer the X-Men over all the other superhero series!
Truly the best and best written with Claremont.
@@TheNickcone it was a RIP-off for fans of the REAL x-men.
Awesome documentary!
Please upload the second part soon!

Thank You for showing the X-Men love again
Super hyped for Power of X, bout time we get a X-relaunch
Gee, I wonder why Marvel is embracing the X-Men again! 🤔
Lol duh, they once again get all profits made off the merchandise and media
They shoulda had them all along. Ill always love Logan, X2, DoFP, Deadpool 1 & 2, First Class, tge Wolverine, and hell even the first film.
Love that they are giving props to Dave Cockrum. One of the greatest costume designers in the history of comics.
It's a video abiht the history of the x men. Why the hell woildnt they give him props????
@@nickoffury because the new x-men where Dave Cockrums Legion of superheroes extras.
And wolverine was a Timber Wolf swipe.
How about Mentioning John Byrne and Terry Austin .........2 major components to making this book as successful as it became !!!
the collectors in me: dam that book is nice!
the speculator in me: white pages.
X-Men is life
X-Men is Awesome!
Man Jonathan Hickman's X-Men, and now these! I'm so hyped for the X-Men in the MCU

I ❤️ Marvel 3000
Don’t change my mind
This is really cool! I would definitely enjoy more of these. They’re really informative.
X-Men is Marvel
Thanks, Captain Obvious
This is wonderful. Keep them coming.
This is very fascinating to see how they transitioned into new X-Men stories
Never mind that it ruined Marvel comics continuity.
How can anyone not like Storm and Colossus?! Those guys have the right appearances of superheroes.
This is so amazing. I’m so glad you guys did this 😭🥰

Nice conspiracy theory. Totally not bitter that Marvel finally remembered they had other characters besides the X-Men, I see.
Interesting I've been a X Men fan since the early 90s never knew this!
I just looooove Dave Cockrum's artwork !
Banshee in the movie X-Men: First Class should have had an Irish accent.
So basically nerds have always been angry when things change and the letters section is an ancient ancestor to comment sections. The more you know...
Oh you should see some of the pages it’s the same kind of complaining we get today.

the first movie should be based on X-Men and the living island
