    I saw all videos about the CJ3B. I'm impressed. I have my gran dad 1956 cj3b still working, and I would like to have your habilities to restore it as well as yours. Regards from Barcelona! Keep pushing on it, it deserves the effort!!

    Excellent fab work my friend. Many so called pro shop on TH-cam would struggle to do the same quality of work and even then they would be buying the parts you created yourself!

      Thanks it was a fun build, hoping to do another soon.This time a little bit different. I want to make a Cj2a pickup. A few extra inches in the wheel base,small, Diesel engine. I need to finish a couple other things first.

      @@fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418 I'm currently on a frame off with my 69 cj5. Just finished my 54 cj3b last year. I truly admire your hat channel work. I used a wooden oak buck and press to create mine. Thanks for the inspiration. Hope to see your channel grow. Glad to be a new subscriber.

    Just found this series this afternoon and I have watched all of them. I'm glad you explained your definition of a mild restoration. From a mechanical aspect, this has been a full on, frame off restoration with custom fabrication of many parts. I have had many (8-9) more modern Jeeps. Most of them have been XJs, YJs and TJs and I love messing with them because they are so basic and simple. My skillset is far, far from your's, but I like to buy them and fix all of the little crap that has stopped working over the years and pass them on to someone else. If a little money can be made, that's cool too. New subscriber and I'm really enjoying the series.

      Phil Griswold -thanks for the comments, it’s getting close to finished. I’ve never worked much on any newer Jeeps but you never know what may show up. Glad you enjoyed the videos so far

      It does require a few tools, buy what you can or borrow. The welder is the most expensive but there are some cheap ones online that would work. Hope you can get it together

    Awesome restore Job! I'm working on a 1946 CJ2A, still working on the frame that is getting protective paint and undercoating paint. Soon to be on the body work that is going to include replacing the hat channel, front floor pans and possibly the rear floor. The rear floor is badly warped, not to sure how to do that. Just experimenting a bit. " CAN'T HURT TO TRY, ITS ALREADY BROKEN. " =)

    • @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418
      @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That sounds like a good project! If you can get the old hat channel off the rear floor you may be able to fix the warp.

    nice job on the hat channel! Only, I was looking forward to see how where about to do it! also, since you live in the rust belt, i did not see any rustproofing on them on the inside. Are going to do something about that?

      I don’t run the Jeep much in winter...yet. I hope by sealing(with heavy coat of paint) that I won’t have any issues for a long time.

      Lfig Thank you I’m happy with the finish. I painted the bottom yesterday hoping to flip and start prepping the the rest of the tub for paint.

  • @hampneel4589
    @hampneel4589 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you put the oak wood underwhere the hat channel where it attaches to the frame .or when you secure the tub to the frame it will crush the hat channel when you tighten it.

    • @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418
      @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wood is also a contributing factor in rusty hat channel, so to answer your question. no I didn’t put any in. I put some metal stiffeners in by the mounting points.

  • @hampneel4589
    @hampneel4589 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Did you put some paint between the hat channel and bottom of the tub .

  • @benchamberlain5985
    @benchamberlain5985 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you buy hat channel like that? How much do you estimate that you saved making your own? That's so cool to be making all your own components like that!

    • @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418
      @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ben Chamberlain - The pre made floor hat channel costs about $150 per side. The piece that connects them is about $50. Seems like every little bracket is $15-20 dollars. If you just need one that’s cheap but it all adds up.

    I have a doubt I am new to welding I learnt how to gas weld and MIG but in my Jeep there is a rust hole in the tub it is next to the support under the dashboard on the right side should I mig weld it or should I gas weld it

    • @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418
      @fastdadgarage-northsouthch4418 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you get a piece of copper to put on a flat side I’d mig, but that’s what I’m comfortable with. Remove as much rusty metal as possible, the welder will basically vaporize it

    • @ShashankNSN_7261
      @ShashankNSN_7261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My plan is to cut the rusted metal out and weld in a new pice and the bottom of the support also rusted
