DuQuette says in an interview, RWS is „mystical“, and Thoth is „magical“. Because Waite was a christian mystic, and Crowley was a magitian. And thus, RWS is like more „passive“; it‘s like about confrontation with things that come. And Crowley is like more „active“; it‘s like about changing things. Can you agree?
I am so in love with this deck. You are such a magnetic and fascinating teacher! Your energy makes this “heady” deck so much more accessible. I can’t wait to dive in to all of your material. Thank you!! 🙌💫
Crowley did write that in divination Justice can refer to human sense of Justice, law, and legal proceedings, merely that the symbol is grander than that, regarding the suspended force prior to action. I enjoy picturing it as this. You know when you throw up an object, and at the height of its arch it pauses before falling? Or a pendulum at the height of its swing? That brief moment is Justice. The pause between cause and effect, that restrained potential energy. And in a lesser sense, that is what we’re doing when using judgement, restrained and directed will with the aim of proceeding with an appropriate response. Basically you need not be restrained by reading Justice so one dimensionally, but not to throw out its connection to human ideas wholesale. Especially in divination. That’s how I like framing it anyways.
Thank you for sharing your revised approach to the RWS court card correspondences! I’ve always felt that kings should correspond to air/ Tiphereth as well but I’ve never seen anyone else attribute it as such. It’s also interesting to note that kings were often referred to as princes by their subjects. King Henry VIII was often referred to as “my prince” for example. Loving your content. Thank you for shining your light 93
You are ONE excellent student/teacher. Clearly you enjoy your calling. And yes... I'll pay attention like you say! You've done some serious thinking on the two decks and I appreciate your efforts
Joe, you have been one of my greatest influences in learning tarot. I'm so grateful for your existence as tarot has had a major impact on my life and my path. I just got my first thoth deck. I started tarot reading from the Marseilles deck. From an organizational standpoint the thoth deck seems more like the Marseilles deck than a rws deck. Joe, thank you for being you. Consider me at least spiritually part of your army of mystical misfits. ❤
I think the 7s have always been very negative cards in post Golden Dawn tarot especially. I think for some odd reason, modern readers wanted to see the 7s as more positive. So framed them more around their dependence on outside force to overcome their weakness, shifting away from that inherent weakness. 7 of Disks in Crowley’s terms is Failure. But modern readers will read it with a positive spin, where to get something you need to put alot of work in. And you might be very tired in the end. Which is how you overcome Failure.
Curious if Crowley was intentionally attacking concepts like sevens because of the Holy associations to that number by Christianity as a form of antagonism.
I knew I read something very cool about Judgement the other day and I finally found where I read it So Robert Wang, together with Regardie, released The Golden Dawn Tarot deck in ‘78 And in the accompanying book, which was largely just a transcription of the Golden Dawn methods of divination, he writes alot of detail on the major arcana And on Judgement he says, quote: “To the uninitiated eye it apparently represents the Last Judgement, with an angel blowing a trumpet and the Dead rising from their tombs - but its meaning is meaning is far more occult and recondite than this, for it is a glyph of the powers of Fire.” And then goes on to identify all the figures. The Angel being Michael, the snake that appears in the sky as well in some golden Dawn decks, being a depiction of Seraphim. The left figure being Samael, “lord of Volcanic Fire” The right figure being Anael, “Lord of the Astral Light” And the central figure being Arel “Lord of Latent Heat” and these three lower figures are overlayed with the letter Shin. So that the whole picture is an image of Solar fire calling upon the complete power of fire, thus representing what it does. A moment of definitive action. I just thought that was really a really neat framing of it I hadn’t seen before. I don’t own the deck this is from, but I read a blog post which talked about it and was blown away.
you’re adorable and have a beautiful energy about you. I every much take that much more pleasure learning about tarot with you as my teacher🙏 thank you Joe!
Try both. Whatever artwork you are being drawn to. I'm drawn to work with Radiant Rider Waite but I also enjoy working with my other decks I have in my collection 😊
Hey! Glad I found your channel today 💜 curious if youve looked into the brotherhood of light deck at all? What do u think about the difference in numbers, for instance the justice card being changed from 8 to 11? I've been meditating on this all week craving more info... I realized the rider waite is extremely Christian and was relieved to hear you speak on it. Thank u for ur service 🙏
I also study the Kabbalah so yeah excited to have found you. The brotherhood of light deck is supposed to be more aligned with that "numerology". Wondering what your thoughts are.
How you define the Thoth interpretations....I'm like, how do you convey that interpretation to a client.? A person who has no idea of the complexity.. ?

Once I got the Thoth, I stopped using RWS. Such a brilliant deck.
Very informative, thank you for creating this video.
So in a way the Thoth deck is more of the macrocosm perspective and the Rider Waite is more of the microcosm experiences ?
Love Joe and all of his output.
Thank you so much!
Really great and informative ❤ I agree 💯 about all said of the courts 🎉 👏
Thank you!!!
