The food in Sri Lanka is so rich and flavourful. We started off exploring the best street food in Sri Lanka by going to a local shop to try egg hoppers. Egg hoppers are a popular street food here in Sri Lanka and a great way to start the day. As one of the most popular foods in Sri Lanka, egg hoppers are ordered in a few different ways.
We continued exploring the best foods to eat in Colombo and tasted the delicious and yummy king coconut. We tasted lamprais and falooda on our Sri Lankan food tour. There’s no shortage of incredible Sri Lankan street food in Colombo.
We finished off our Sri Lankan street food tour of Colombo in the Aluthkade neighbourhood of Sri Lanka. Here, we went to a local shop to see how they make their string hoppers and other local dishes. String hoppers are another popular Sri Lankan food that you must try. Seeing string hoppers get made by hand was such a treat, and they tasted amazing as well, very different than the egg hoppers we tried earlier in the day. Last on our Colombo food tour was Sri Lanka's national dish, curry and rice. We tried the popular Colombo Sri Lankan kukul mas curry along with fried goat brains!
We hope you enjoy exploring Sri Lankan street food in Colombo with us. The egg hoppers, string hoppers and all the Sri Lankan street food we tasted was so good, definitely some of the best street food in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Stay tuned for more street food adventures eating the best street food in Sri Lanka!

Sri Lanka has incredible food to taste all over the country. We're enjoying exploring it so much. Thanks for watching😊
Thank You
Im not agree that sri lanka is better than India foot.
India foot has a lager selektion. veg.dishes are better in India
@@stigblichfeldt4455North India does not have many non veg options as sri lanka
That’s not simply true….. Sri Lankan cuisine is very limited in its flavours.
You guys make me miss Sri Lanka so much, I simply love having egg hoppers for breakfast (or at any time of the day, really). Cheers from Indonesia!
Agreed, egg hoppers are so good, we've eaten quite a few here in Sri Lanka😋 thanks a lot for watching, and hello to you in Indonesia!!
Incredible food tour guys!! Those egg and string hoppers look delicious but my favourite has to be the curry with rice. That was to die for.
We can’t wait to see all of your Sri Lankan food adventures ❤️
Thank you so much guys! The food in Sri Lanka is trying something else 😋🤤 so much flavour. Excited to share it all with you!
When i lived in Sri Lanka i only went on vacation in Sri Lanka. Now i live in england. I either take a vacation in England or in Sri lanka. Two of the best countries in the world or may be Pakistan!
Such wonderful countries, all of them!
I love when you said everything is popping and is so fleshy. Great descriptions!
Thanks Krista!!
THAT FOOD INFO, i mean the first few seconds, was a 'treat' to my eyes :)
Thanks! So glad you enjoyed it 😉😋😋
My mother used to make milk coffee on rainy days for me, it’s not the usual English coffees. Sri Lankan milk coffee is different, but could be very sweet if you’re used to americano or your coffee bitter.
Since I left from Sri Lanka I ate Srilankan food while in Toronto
I don’t look for particular foods . Whatever is available I eat
How's the Sri Lankan food in Toronto?
I want to eat with my hands like this! That curry and roti looks super tasty.
They were sooo good. Eating with your hands is definitely a must and honestly let's you experience the food in such a different way. You should try it the next time you make something with rice😉
Visit here!!🇱🇰🇱🇰

Thank you so much for your welcome, we hope so!
Hey, hungry two! 😊
I was nicely surprised with a Sri Lankan food episode just after the Indonesian McDonald's one.✨️
I have been looking for savory pancake recipes from time to time and catching a glimpse of how an egg hopper was cooked was really interesting. The chutneys and side dishes to eat with them are new ideas for me to explore.
The rose water drink looks so pretty! 😊
Moving along the video, Chris' slight coughing just proves that there's no kidding around when they say "spicy" over there. 😆
Very nice episode, guys! See you two next meal. ✨️🫰🏻😊
Hey Cris! We're glad you enjoyed the first of our Sri Lanka food adventure!
The egg hoppers were really nice, sometimes they break the yolk and others they leave it runny, but either way it's such a nice snack any time of day to be honest. Having them with a few spicy sides kicks the whole dish up a notch as well. We love how they use so much coconut here!
Haha and yes, if someone says it's spicy, it's usually spicy 😝 No joke!
Thanks for watching and for your comment, Cris. See you next meal! ☺️
Its happy to see you enjoying our food.Thank you for coming to Sri Lanka.❤❤❤

Colombo looks like such a beautiful city! The " lump rice" looked delicious 😋. It's really neat to watch the whole processes involved in the food production.
Colombo is really lovely, we enjoyed exploring it so much. The rice was really tasty, and you would have loved the coconut😉😉
it seems should be "Lumpri rice" ?
@@ZaW-fc2bbit's lamprais
It’s lamprais - the s is silent. Portuguese influence.
@@ZaW-fc2bb It is written as "Lamprais" and not ""Lumpri rice" 🙂 It has been noted that Lamprais is not a Dutch creation, but had been inspired by the Dutch, who brought some of the recipes with them from Indonesia where the VOC had their headquarters.
The spicy rice wrapped in a banana leaf is called ' lump rice' . An original Dutch recipe.
Yes we loved that dish! It was so full of flavour😋🤤 thanks for watching!

Thank you so much for watching! The food truly is incredible here, we're enjoying exploring the country so much😊🧡
King coconut is sweater than regular coconut. If not sweat then it is not ripe yet. When the coconut is ripe you will be able to see the white coconut meat inside. King coconut water taste better when it ripe half. Hard to tell from outside. If your coconut meat has a jelly like texture with 2mm thick then it is half ripe. That is the best condition to eat.
We found the water to be so sweet and delicious. We've been loving the king coconut in Sri Lanka 🤤😋
Try paal appam, it’s a sweet version of hoppers, Tamils make it, with extra coconut milk in the centre sort of gooey and topped with scraped jaggery. And also Sinhalese make a sweet version of hoppers and that’s called “pani aappa”. Makes with Kithul treacle. The hopper looks brownish colour. Soo good both of them.
Amazing, thanks for the suggestion!
Hi madm i am Aaron germaniy bud am srilankan you Eid idiyappam and vadai veer rest thank you
Thanks so much for watching, Aaron 😊
Nice to see that you both are enjoying eating the food using your fingers by hand like Sri Lankans do when eating Sri Lankan cuisine including Rice and Curry. 👍
Yes, you must eat it the local way, we love it 😊 thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I felt really happy seeing him eating with his hand like a true sri lankan 😊
FYI falooda has it's roots to persia and india.
Lamprais is a sri lankan dish which was introduced by dutch people.
Ulundu wade and paratha are both indian food.
The last meal you had in Aluthkade is not rice and curry. You should definitely try local rice and curry from a good restaurant in here 😊
Thanks for the info and suggestion! We will definitely be trying a more traditional local curry shop while we are here 😉 thanks a lot for your comment!
Hi I think what they did was to introduce what we as Sri Lankans commonly eat. They never talked about roots of any foods, FYI falooda is very popular in Sri Lanka. So they introduced it to anyone coming to sri lanka to try SRI LANKAN made falooda. Even dutch don't have lumprice today. If you are to talk about roots and history of foods even water was introduced by some people. So kudos to them for introducing what we as Sri Lankans eat regularly when we go out to eat. Any tourist who are visiting Sri Lanka should definitely try all the food items shown in the video as they all have a touch of Sri Lankan flavour.

4:13 As a Sri Lankan, I agree
Tea for the win 😉
It’s called thembili, mainly for drinking. The flesh is not as thick as a coconut’s, and cannot be used to extract the milk. The oil extracted from thambili flesh is good for your hair, but we don’t use it for the milk needed for curries.
Interesting!! Thanks for watching :)

Yes but most sellers sell unripened king coconut, that's the reason some don't have any sweet taste.

king coconut is too matured that is why
It was very sweet and deliciously refreshing 😉
Good Food but seems some restaurants handling food unhygienically. They do not want to learn health & HYGIENE accept the earning money. That's pretty BAD
