I remember seeing a video of a small snowy mound in a windy area, the dude pokes it and then this husky sticks its head out of the snow looking like “fuck you wake me up for” 😂
Yep. My dog is not shy. One time sleeping out in snow, I didn't bring enough ground insulation for her. Her solution was to use me/my bag as ground insulation (90lb Rottweiler)😅 if she's too warm, she'll kick off layers. ❤ dogs are the best.
Yup I got a German shep x rott who never gets cold, and if he is cold, ITS WAY COLD OUTSIDE🤣. He’s hot in the winter. My Pitt x coon dog, constantly has a jacket on, in the summer.
WTG with repurposing your old gear. I did the same thing with the an old sleeping bag except I removed the zipper (it was coming off) and altered it shape-wise. Works perfectly. ❄️
Synthetic sleeping bags are very easy to shorten. I did that for my dog. There's no reason to carry a 6 foot long sleeping bag when most dogs curl up in a ball in one small spot. It will also keep them warmer since they don't have to heat the entire volume. I actually took my old sleeping bag and made two bags out of it for my dog.
There is if you listened. The dog doesn’t sleep in the bag, it’s used as a quilt. With your method, if this dog. Who may well not sleep the same way as “most dogs” do, which you have no way of knowing what most dogs do, and it’s a silly thing to assume, my staffie is super energetic and basically a rotisserie chicken in his sleep, you don’t know her dog, if she listened to you, then they wouldn’t have a quilt. This is a good idea for you, a pretty bad idea for her. To word is so condescending, when you’re wrong, is odd at best. “There’s no reason” yes there is, when she’s thinking about her dog and not the opinion of the most senior canine specialist in the world. 👌🏻
My husky mix was fine outside in a blizzard just as is. My healer mix needed his coat and cuddles at night. Just a disclaimer that I'd rather have kept the husky in the warm tent, but she freaked out after snow started falling on it and tried to dig out through the bottom. I now know you shake trees off before setting a tent up underneath...
Our pup is the same way! He's a Tibetan Terrier and I've determined that his threshold for "too cold" seems to be about -10 Fahrenheit. He likes to go out and sleep on snow piles until then!
@@Crystalthewolf1000 he’s ok. You’re being overkill right now. 🤭 Always the bitter one that needs to feel superior. She would’ve had issues by now if it was causing them. 🤣 you can quite clearly see there are times when it has nothing on. She is working around her dog. You’re just you bud.
@@kirstybrown1185 doubled coated like the cold, it’s built in insulation meaning coats aren’t needed and just overheat the animals :) it’s cruelty to put a coat on any double coated dog
My boy has no double coat and bare pits and thighs, so I would do the first coat you put on and probably the second depending on how low the temp would get. He gets over heated easily and cold easily so it would have to be a trial and error for me.
I have hounds we live in the midwest, they will sit in the snow during storms because they love the cold. When it gets to the negatives they need their boots, and dogo coats/ hats plus sweater/pjs and than I have to fight to get them inside
I love the “hi mom, I see you’ve clearly set out this ground cover, sleep pad, etc. because you wanted me to hop on and scrunch it all up and get snow all over it.” My dog always does that if I’m making the bed 😂
I'm looking for ways to keep my cat warm while hiking and camping... it's proving to be quite a challenge; you should have heard the growling when I put her jacket on her today! And she's normally a ball of purrs...
My dog would just be living in the snow its what she was bred for shes a Samoyed she loves cold weather and will lay out in the cold for days if i let her
I've seen some comments that weren't really nice. Please, don't let other people put you down, and please brush off their hurtful, unnecessary, and even unintelligent comments. You are for sure an inspiration for others who like your lifestyle. Continue letting your dreams come true because you only live once
Mine can withstand temps but shivers when its cold, so if we are ever camping id give make sure she was covered but id not put her in all that since she has long wolf or husky like double coat that crusts over The key to if your dog can endure cold temperatures is the crusty nature of the outer coat, rough none soft fur is better at this but long fur with thick undercoat is too
PSA: BOOTIES ARE NOT NECESSARY IN THE WOODS AND CAN INHIBIT TRACTION. A lot of people are recommending booties. Booties are great if you expect your dog to be out on hot pavement, but aren't really necessary for the cold. People use them in the cold to protect dogs' feet from ice shards underneath snow and snow melting salt that might have chemicals that could hurt paws, both common with pavement, but not an issue in the woods. Feral dogs and wolves do just fine in the woods without booties where there is not pavement to overheat, form ice sheets that turn into shards, or be salted. Most sled dogs don't even wear booties. As long as you're paying attention to your dog and letting him rest as needed, booties aren't necessary for walking in the woods in the snow, and actually inhibit traction. If you really feel you need a barrier for your dog's paws, try Musher's Secret. It's a wax-like product you put on a dog's paws as an added layer to protect from the elements including chemicals and rough terrain, without sacrificing your dog's agility or having to pay to replace a bootie every week.
Maybe that's a silly question but I have a 1.5-year-old Bernese and I want to go hiking, I mean seriously hiking, with him when I finally reached the age of freedom xD. So my question is, he doesn't require a winter jacket, right? I mean this breed is a full jacket on its own but I have seen sooo many different hiking equipment for dogs that I'm a bit insecure about what is needed for my dog since he is big and has a very thick coat. I definitely won't go on a long-distance hiking with him in the summer. Never
Yes, however there is a product called synthetic cotton. Just as there are products like synthetic silk. Silk and cotton are not synthetic But there are man-made products made to replicate organic materials. Synthetic cotton can be made with polyester, rayon, nylon or other materials.
@@MariaMaria-sr8zgdang i didnt know that, i just assumed that if it was cotton then it was cotton I noticed yesterday that cotton yarn im using isnt 100% cotton like i thought, but actually 85% & 15% polyester - is there any way to know if that's regular cotton or synthetic? Indoors or outdoors?? 😅
Now Starring...."Two Dog Night!!"
Kind of depends on the dog too. Not all breeds or individuals like or dislike the cold. Really good to do it on a case by case basis.

Yeah, I would not worry about a Finnish Lapphund or a husky freezing in the snow, but I would worry about them overheating

@@kirstybrown1185 Dude, you got so pressed over a cool suggestion. It's not criticism or anything, literally just offering ideas
I have to recommend getting some little booties for him, their paws can be quite sensitive
Just a suggestion if you do happen to be in cold temps like colder then usual and the ground is cold you might want to invest in some dog boots
Same with very hot too! Here in the Phoenix they will burn even on dry brown grass! Watch thos lil paws!
my only worry would be his little paws getting too cold! have you tried those little booties for him before?

you should try digging the ground you sleep on until its dry ground
By definition synthetic means man made, not a natural fiber like cotton or will.

Are his paws okay in the snow? It seems dangerous but then again, huskies and other snow dogs live in the snow barefooted all the time dont they?
