    Op-ed when a writer not affiliated with the editorial board writes something for the newspaper (could be that I'm wrong). I still believe A Plea for Caution From Russia is something Putin did write. Hearing some of his responses to questions that were asked towards him makes me think he properly uses examples from history. That is enough for me to be convinced.

    Yeah, but how could she get the Russian position of being the self-proclaimed peacemaking adult so wrong given recent events in Ukraine? She is brilliant in her more recent interviews, so it was a little surprising to see this after the insightful things she has said since 2014 and now the Russian invasion. This old clip also unfortunately demonstrates to me how much of the Obama's administration foreign policy was just ineffective.

    • @ThomasFromTN
      @ThomasFromTN 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your "Oh, by the way" comment...feels very much like a script writer burying dubious material within a Trojan Horse mass of benign rhetoric. The Obama administration no more nor no less misfired than has any U.S. administration where policy relating to Russia is concerned. Singling it out as the root cause for what pervades now (which was your clear insinuation) is utter disinformation.

    《Russian President Vladimir Putin reiterated that Russia never annexed Crimea, in response to the Ukrainian Ambassador, at the Commonwealth of Independent State summit in Bishkek on Friday. ... SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "The first thing I would like to say: Russia did not annex anything. Whatever happened with Crimea is the result of unlawful actions of certain political forces in Ukraine who had brought about a situation of a state coup. Crimea joined Russia as a result of an expression of the will of the people who live on this territory. This action fully complies with international law and the UN Charter, the corresponding UN courts' decisions on similar issues which are in practice at the UN International Court of Justice." ... SOT, Vladimir Putin, President of Russia (Russian): "As is known, Ukraine has deplorably neither signed nor ratified the CIS Charter and for that reason it can hardly lay claim to the right to make proposals regarding the organisations' procedures. Thank you very much for your attention."》 ... m.th-cam.com/video/bUET4TTthBo/w-d-xo.html ...
    Finally, about a war waged against this country. Fortunately, there is no war. Let us not pay too much attention to this. There is, however, an attempt to restrain our development by different means, an attempt to freeze the world order that has taken shape in the past decades after the collapse of the Soviet Union, with one single leader at its head, who wants to remain an absolute leader, thinking he can do whatever he likes, while others can only do what they are allowed to do and only if it is in this leader’s interests. Russia would never agree to such a world order. Maybe some like it, they want to live in a semi-occupied state, but we will not do it. However, we will not go to war with anyone either, we intend to cooperate with everyone. The attempts made, including through the so-called sanctions, do not make anyone happy in the final count, I believe. They cannot be effective when applied to such a country as ours, though they are doing us certain harm. We have to understand this and enhance our sovereignty, including economic sovereignty. Therefore, I would like to call on you to show understanding of what is going on and to cooperate with the state and the Government." ...

We certainly need to analyse everything that is happening on the battlefield, how the weapons work. Both the Calibre missiles and the Kh-101 rockets are generally showing very good results. We now see that these are new, modern and highly effective high-precision weapons that can be equipped either with conventional or special nuclear warheads. ...
    Naturally, we do not need that in fighting terrorists, and I hope we will never need it. But overall, this speaks to our significant progress in terms of improving weaponry and equipment being supplied to the Russian army and navy.》 ...

You may remember the wonderful saying: Whatever Jupiter is allowed, the Ox is not. ... We cannot agree with such an approach. The ox may not be allowed something, but the bear will not even bother to ask permission. Here we consider it the master of the taiga, and I know for sure that it does not intend to move to any other climatic zones - it will not be comfortable there. However, it will not let anyone have its taiga either. I believe this is clear." ...

    en.kremlin.ru/events/president/news/46860 ... "You know, at the Valdai [International Discussion] Club I gave an example of our most recognisable symbol. It is a bear protecting his taiga. You see, if we continue the analogy, sometimes I think that maybe it would be best if our bear just sat still. Maybe he should stop chasing pigs and boars around the taiga but start picking berries and eating honey. Maybe then he will be left alone. But no, he won’t be! Because someone will always try to chain him up. As soon as he’s chained they will tear out his teeth and claws. In this analogy, I am referring to the power of nuclear deterrence. As soon as - God forbid - it happens and they no longer need the bear, the taiga will be taken over. We have heard it even from high-level officials that it is unfair that the whole of Siberia with its immense resources belongs to Russia in its entirety. Why exactly is it unfair? So it is fair to snatch Texas from Mexico but it is unfair that we are working on our own land - no, we have to share. And then, when all the teeth and claws are torn out, the bear will be of no use at all. Perhaps they’ll stuff it and that’s all." ...

And I assure you, the treat of terrorist strikes against Russia has not become greater or less due to our actions in Syria. It was already there and it still is, unfortunately. We were not taking any action in Syria. What caused the terrorists to strike the railway station in Volgograd? Nothing. Simply their people-hating mentality, their attitude toward people’s lives, the fight against Russia itself. Also, to speak frankly, as a fighter myself, I am proud that our country’s president also practices martial arts. I am proud, and many of our fighters are proud of you because you withstand such blows that when we watch the TV, we are amazed at how you do it and what strength of character you have. The essence of democracy is demos-people, organizing their lives in the way they want. What you have? Through mantra about "independant institutions" you gave sovereignty of the demos to those institutions, like court, police, military, which aren't elected by the demos, and that functionate within their own closed system. That's totalitarism, has nothing to do with democracy. Democracy means no dictatorship of any kind. Not of a person, not of an "independant institution".
