  • Grundig FR200 Radio - Eton FR300 Radio - partial disassembly and speaker comparison.
Nothing special, I just take the back off the Grundig and Eton and take a look at the difference between the speakers and then do a quick sound comparison. There is a hidden screw underneath the label on the back. The Grundig has a 2.5 inch speaker and the older Eton has a 3 inch speaker. It's weird how the Eton sounds so much better in the higher frequencies.
The Eton FR300 originally had a "soft-touch" fuzzy rubberized finish that sort of felt like very fine suede leather in your hands. Sadly, the rubber finish degraded over time to the point where the entire radio felt very sticky as if someone had coated it with glue. A thorough wipedown with 90% rubbing alcohol helped to gently remove the sticky residue without removing the paint or lettering - very time consuming though.

I would have never known there was a screw behind the label. No wonder I could not get the darn thing apart. Thank you very much for the video.

That's basically their warranty void is removed/damaged

I've owned that same Grundig for a few years and ended up losing the antenna, but it still works using a wire attached to an external antenna. Just TODAY I stopped at a pawn shop for the heck of it and they had a basically new eton FR-300 with a carry case and original manual for $20, so I grabbed that. Nice to know how to get inside of each if need be, so thanks. My 300 has a eton small cursive letter logo.

Thanks for helping me find that last screw, the one under the label. I'm replacing the antenna.

Need to take mine apart and clean the volume wheel, its super touchy as act it has a short. Thinking some canned air and electrical contact cleaner might help it. Thanks for the video. I never woulda found that bastard behind the label lol.

Thanks. I have a white FR200 on the way from eBay. Good to know where the screws are. Happy 2022.

I'm looking to disassemble an FR-400, but it won't budge. I applied a little wedging force, but not much since it seems it should come apart with no force like this one. Similar screws, but it has two black plastic pieces on each side that seem to be holding it together.

OK.The black plastic pieces did hold it together. I noticed one of them had broken and had a crack in the top-middle and as I pried a little it showed that it should come off for opening. One of cables from battery compartment the whole connector for the rechargeable battery (crank charged) were broken. One for regular battery can be soldered back. The other cables I can't see where they connect to the motherboard. It would require removing motherboard, too. We'll see. At minimum it should work w DC in and battery, maybe not rechargeable battery.
