Dual 522 Turntable Speed Selector Switch Fix
มุมมอง 1.4Kปีที่แล้ว
Dual 522 turntable would not switch to 45 rpm speed when switching the Speed Selector Lever (#260 297) because the leaf spring (#260 570 part 106) would bind instead of moving the switch lever (#260 475). You Are A GENIUS!!! Thanks for sharing!!
A very helpful video, thank you. Same problem on my Dual 505. Lubrication not working for me either. I think for the time being, now that I know what to do, if I want to play 45rpm, I will just take the mat off the platter and have a little hook ready to nudge the white plastic lever through one of the platter holes.....

Do all the 1257 come stackable and how many albums can you stack
Worked for me, thanks!
When it's a more reasonable hour, I'll route the audio from my foldable to my Onkyo TX-RZ50, which is connected to my T-830s as my front pair, and repeat the audition in my home theater. The speakers in my Z Fold 4 don't do this piece justice.
Very detailed and very useful! Wonder if I could share this video with an OSMG who could do this for me, though. "Easier" than the recommended method, but still not simple to do. (I've changed a couple of gears in other old Singers which were much more accessible than this one and it wasn't an easy thing for me at all.). PS...I came here from Andy's channel, I love that we can all share resources like this.
I got a pair of the same A120. Both woofer surrounds are rotted out. Looking for replacement component...
search on ebay for "Boston Acoustics A120" and you'll see a bunch of surround repair kits. Buy a kit that includes the glue (~$20) It's an incredibly easy repair on the A120 model because the large woofers are actually passive radiators.
@@demotoob3828 Can you convert these speakers to use real 10" woofers by connecting wires to the jack and maybe a resistor?
@@HumbleBearcatI suppose you could put some real woofers in there, but it would absolutely destroy the wonderfully tight and controlled bass of these speakers. The A120 / HD10 speakers are basically Boston Acoustic's version of Polk's widely-loved Monitor 7 speakers. Both models have a 10" passive radiator. I have two videos on my channel doing an A/B comparison of these two speakers and the Boston Acoustics A120's more than hold their own against the Polk Monitor 7's. There is plenty of bass; these things go all the way down to 40Hz.

thanks a lot for the video! ive had the same problem for years but couldnt be bothered to take it apart because of it. may i ask how you removed the assembly to get below it? i need to get in there anyways because the arm doesnt automatically move left and right anymore. i tried looking it up but didnt find anything so far. im a bit afraid ill get 5 springs flying across the room :S Edit: nvm i just found a video for a different dual turntable. all you need to do is loose the screws that keep the table in place for transit so you can move them, then try to turn them inwards so you can lift it up. the whole turntable is fixed to the bottom so no springs to fly around :)
Hi. Did you change this tonearm head, or this already came with the turntable? I'm just asking because I have a 1229 with a broken tonearm head. Yours looks different. It's silver with 8 circles holes. Very helpful video btw. Many thanks.
This is the original headshell. This turntable is a later version of the 1229 called the 1229Q. The original 1229 headshell has sort of a grid pattern on the top whereas the 1229Q has the circles.

Do you still have these speakers? What are their strengths and weaknesses? Do they favor certain music genre?
Yes I still own these speakers and listen to them regularly. Strengths: Acoustic Suspension, Laid-back East-Coast sound with a beautiful sweet-sounding tweeter, Very forgiving of placement so they sound good almost anywhere you put them - which is great if you listen while moving around the room. Also, they sound great at low volume as do all BA speakers. Weaknesses: Some people dislike the tweeter and think it is a bit too lively/fatiguing. I find them to be excellent all-around speakers for all genres of music, but people generally recommend East-Coast speakers for jazz and classical, and West-Coast speakers for rock and pop music.
Thanks I own the Boston A100. Would you say they have the same tweeter characteristics or liveliness? Or one of them is less lively (even just a little)?
@@jianboo the T830 tweeters are identical to the A100's. The narrow baffle (width of speaker) of the T830 improves imaging over the A100 a little bit, but the A100 has deeper bass response. My daily driver speakers are BA A150's because I really like the extra low end response. The T830's are in my bedroom.
@@demotoob3828 Thanks, my A100 has been temporarily replaced by Dynaco A25 due to better midrange coverage. I like it's rolled off highs but the bass is also rolled off. I have a chance to grab the T830 40 mins near me and A150 four hours away. I guess it merits to check the T830 based on the distance.
@@jianboo I think you'll be pleased with either the T830's or the A150's. I'm using a Kenwood Basic C1 preamp into a Rotel RB981 amplifier to drive them and getting a very satisfying sound for relatively little money. I edited a comment above to note that Boston Acoustics speakers also sound really good at low volume which is another nice benefit.
Hi ! I have a question.does it have two different versions ? Because I saw some the socket is under the speaker bottom some is on the speaker low back , I want to know that if you know , please!
Yes, there are two different versions. One version has the speaker connections on the bottom of the speaker, the other version has them on the back.
RE: the clear ring vs. the black ring: the black ring may be Neoprene, the clear ring may be urethane. Urethane lasts a few years and then rots just like the old black rubber one you removed. Neoprene would be the best material for the purpose: it does not rot but only eventually hardens somewhat over many years.
Thanks for the info. You might be right. The clear one (from eBay) said it was made of "inert rubber with high UV, temperature and abrasion resistance" It feels like silicone which (I think) should be ok.
Exactly the video I needed! Thank you!
Need to take mine apart and clean the volume wheel, its super touchy as act it has a short. Thinking some canned air and electrical contact cleaner might help it. Thanks for the video. I never woulda found that bastard behind the label lol.
I'm looking to disassemble an FR-400, but it won't budge. I applied a little wedging force, but not much since it seems it should come apart with no force like this one. Similar screws, but it has two black plastic pieces on each side that seem to be holding it together.
OK.The black plastic pieces did hold it together. I noticed one of them had broken and had a crack in the top-middle and as I pried a little it showed that it should come off for opening. One of cables from battery compartment the whole connector for the rechargeable battery (crank charged) were broken. One for regular battery can be soldered back. The other cables I can't see where they connect to the motherboard. It would require removing motherboard, too. We'll see. At minimum it should work w DC in and battery, maybe not rechargeable battery.
Both sound great for a small mono speaker. For what they are, emergency radios for when the power is out or using out and about, they are brilliant!
I have both. 2x200 one 300. Great radios that take a beating and use very little battery power.
Thank You your vid helped me fix my 1229. Bill
Great video! This has recently just happened to my turntable. Excellent solution to probably a common fault. Thank you for sharing 🙏
Glad it helped you! :)

Why did you stack all the speakers there instead of just showing the Super One?
I didn't have any speaker stands at the time so I used other speakers to get the NHT's at a comparable listening height for the recording. On my video page you can open up new browser tabs and A/B compare six different speakers using the same songs. It's not perfect but it helps give you a sense of the different capabilities of each set of speakers.
Nobody rightfully showed up close the lever to raise and lower the tone arm and I truly wanted to see it for myself. Thank you much for this demo.
The sound of FR 300 is mutch better ? Thanks .....hugs from Brasil!

Citizen Lane - Lovingspaceharmony (1999)
Wish mine would go back to rest after the last album. I need the fix described in the service manual I guess. The fix that says “replace the spindle.” But they are worth their weight in gold nowadays.
Shop around locally on Facebook Marketplace, Offerup, shopgoodwill, craigslist etc. for a cheap "Non-Working or for Parts" Dual turntable, especially the budget models like the 1257 and the later cheap gray plastic versions. Half the time (in my case) they will include the multi-play spindle. You can then fix the parts unit and resell it or simply resell it as a parts unit without the spindle. There's a $30 non-working model 1257 in Burleson TX right now (local pick up only though) on Facebook Marketplace that includes a multi-play spindle.
Now let’s see the Dearing fix. I have one to send ya that needs it.
Bravo! The smooth jazz was a nice bonus.
Thank you!
Ну вот ?
Could you post the other components? Is there a sub?
No Sub, just the two speakers powered by a Kenwood 1090VR using the "Source Direct" tone control bypass setting - For a fair comparison with the other speakers in my channel I adjusted the volume to compensate for the different speaker sensitivities.

Sounds awesome, are those the older Zeros or newer model? thanks
Thanks, these are the older A450 model SuperZero made in the USA in the mid 1990's
@@demotoob3828 I picked up a pair of NHT VT-1a at goodwill, they are phenomenal and have real bass. I bought a pair of the super zeros on eBay. Just to play around with them. Hopefully getting them soon. The vt1a really shocked me.
I would have never known there was a screw behind the label. No wonder I could not get the darn thing apart. Thank you very much for the video.
That's basically their warranty void is removed/damaged
Thanks for helping me find that last screw, the one under the label. I'm replacing the antenna.
Where can I buy an antenna for this radio ? Thx
Do you prefer these to the 150s?
I like the a150's deeper bass response as I usually listen while moving about the house, but the skinnier baffle of the t830's images better if you like to listen from a fixed position.
I guess he likes Memphis
Thank you so much for a great video! You earned my subscription.
Thank you! 😀
What a fine video! Thank you! Your pictures are clear, your explanations are clear, your solution will make it possible for people to fix a machines that would otherwise go into the trash.
Thank you! :)
Nicely done! You've found a workable way to replace that gear in about half the steps shown in the service manual which also says to remove all the nose end connections and width levers and move the horizontal arm shaft out of the nose enough to pull up & out the gear/shaft. It's still tight quarters to access the gear compared to the model 457, but very doable as you have shown. There are about a half dozen Singer models that require the top arm shaft to be removed, and I think this could work on a few of them. That plastic gear on the 353/354 is the only weak spot on an otherwise strong & versatile machine, IMO. BTW, the Vintage machines with the dual timing marks use the top mark when setting the height of the needle bar and the bottom mark for setting the needlepoint to hook point timing. We remember upper height and lower hook to get it correct. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this and know how time-consuming it is to find a workaround let alone document it. I'd like to put a link to this on my channel in the 353 Playlist because I still get inquiries several times per year about the hook not rotating on the Genie/Starlet models and at least I could offer your show here as an alternative to many hours long arm shaft removal method. I enjoyed your use of the parts diagrams and good pictures, too. Thank you.
Thanks for the kind words Andy! I would be honored to be included in your Singer Genie 353 playlist. Sorry for the meager production values and I think I should have probably drank a few cups of coffee before hitting the record button because I had a problem finding words. If you have a list of machines that this fix might work on, please send it to me because maybe I could list them in the video description here for people who want to attempt it. I wish someone would make steel replacement gears for all of the Singer machines that had plastic gears. It's a shame that this Genie model also has such an Achilles heel because the rest of the gears and pulleys seem to be made of metal.
@@demotoob3828 Thanks for that. I'll make a slide and put a link. No worries about your video. You should see some of my early stuff or the videos I made at 2Am when my insomnia was acting up, haha.
Thanks. I have a white FR200 on the way from eBay. Good to know where the screws are. Happy 2022.
Is that a maglite lamp?
I think so, yes
Eton FR300 has FM expanded band on TV1 from 59 - 88 MHz (Russia / Soviet OIRT FM and half part of Japan FM band from 76 Mhz), FM (Japan FM up to 95 MHz): 88 - 108 MHz.
Amazing sound quality. How does it compare to the a200?
I've never heard the a200 but I do know that it is a rather large speaker so I'm fairly certain that it would sound better than the a120
