    All is well when the 2 Akitas walk past 3 calm dogs. It may be a different matter if the 3 dogs are barking snarling and lunging at them.

    I like the fact that Graeme advocates collars in many cases not harnesses.

      I got a harness for my puppy because he was choking himself from pulling so much. We had a dog trainer come over and gave a collar that had half of a chain so when you’d pull the lead it would make this sudden snap sound (doesn’t hurt the dog it’s just a noise) we thought it was ridiculous and wouldn’t work but it worked wonders and my ma and I were just stood there like 😳 it even helped with his recall so now we can have him off the lead walking alongside us

    Akita dogs are breed for fighting and are often used as guard dogs. You need to be an extremely experienced owner to train and handle them properly. I have owned dogs 20 years of similar size and I still wouldn't take one on

      I know a very young woman who walks one and was the inspiration for me to get my own dog walking properly. I also know a much older gent with a pomeranian he has no hope of walking. Judging a dog soley on breed can mean missing out on something great.

      @@avenger8399 for sure that should play a big part - you won't see a farmer in australia using a golden doodle to round up sheep or cattle, for instance. But you will see a lot of city dwellers struggling with these herding breeds.

      @@WollongongSkyWatch I think the issue is a lot of people buy dogs like akitas as puppies purely based on looks (same with huskies, malamutes, samoyeds etc), without really thinking as to whether or not it fits their lifestyle/if they're a first time dog owner etc, so then because they end up with behavioural issues in some cases from not always being easy to train, they often end up in rescues.

    • @WollongongSkyWatch

      @@lunalove9395 exactly right. The Game of Thrones series inspired a lot of people to get huskies. They are now the most dumped dog in the UK. Breeders cashed in and the pups missed out on having a great life because they match up the dream being sold on tv. Very sad.

    What do you put on sled pulling dogs? A harness. No handler is ever going to have control of difficult dogs.
    She needs to watch Upstate Canine Academy to learn how to get control.

    • @misschieflolz1301
      @misschieflolz1301 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is why I don't have a harness on my American bulldog. While he's not a sled dog he's certainly got enough strength to do so if he wanted. He thankfully walks perfectly fine on a slack lead

      I have watched this guy on the channel. I like watching and have taken things away from him, but what does appear to be the case, is that he will always go for a prong collar, rather than say a half slip or different collar set up. No criticism of the method or prong, but just an observation. Graeme's methods don't involve a prong collar, but a flat collar and stout lead. Two different methods that work for the respective trainers? A few of Graeme's programs seem to have quite a few people using a harness as a means of 'leading' the dog.

    The worst thing she is doing by putting a harness on them. They need a halt to be put on them. Then she can control her dogs. They are great I put them on my 3 German shepherd's. I take them for a walk not the other way round.

    These depictions are all wrong and the owners fault. Anyone who's ever watched Cesar Milan knows this. But Cesar Milan was cancelled by the 'woke", and now people are reverting to the idiotic idea that these dogs are untrainable monsters. The woman who owns these dogs should not have them because she's creating the problem. I hate seeing this.
