Even though this video is a bit old now I have to ask you this: do you recommend this camera for everyday usage such as family photos & videos, landscape photography and taking pictures of architectural structures? you mention using a UV filter - how important is it to add that to the camera? I just got the Sony HX-300 and it's my first "bridge" camera. I am a casual photographer but want to be able to get the best images I can. thanks

For GPS, you could add the info in post... Use something like GPSLogger on your smartphone and a simple batch processing software to add GPS info to all photos at one go.
That type of screen is generally termed "flip-out" while the word articulating is more often associated with those that swivel in a 360 degree rotation, including facing toward the area being focused on permitting a user to see himself if, for example, producing a talking video..

agree with randalusa, the 2 downs for me are lack of flip-out screen (the above might save you from kneeling down once or twice but is otherwise a gimmick) & GPS which for me is what defines this generation of cameras. Nothing can catalog and put things in perspective like GPS and it is a key to a massive potential for connecting things. The Nikon P520 has an adapter, the WU1, but I can't see one for Sony yet.

Great review video!. Does it have the option to select for Date/Time stamp (on the each photo or video)? and does the lens have Macro? something that allows you taking clear picture within around 4 inches distant from the lens?
Which one is better in terms of IQ, video - sony hx50v or hx300? I am really confused between these two
Note - 30x zoom is more than enough for me so optical zoom is not a factor to be considered

Hi I am going to be using my Sony Dsc Hx300 for portraits and photo shoots however I need a little advice and knowledge on a lens that would be best for me. I am look for a lens with large aperture and great focus to dull out the background. And most importantly, affordable. Would mind recommending a couple of lenses to me?
it doesn't have an interchangeable lens option. it's very good fo potraits though. if you want nice bokeh ( blurred background ) effect easily, go to scene selection mode and choose the "background defocus" option with auto focus. that should do the job for you.

I got the Sony HX50v with 30x - as it is still very small - still thinking about a bridge camera - so my focus is on the HX300 and the Panasonic FZ200 -- the Panasonic is only 600mm vs 1200mm of the Sony but the Panasonic has a F2.8 through out the range aperture - vs the 3.5-5.6 of the Sony - I think both have the same sensor size. I was just thinking also that 600mm is as far as one can go without getting to much haze and a steady shoot freehand
Hi, I was wondering if you could help me with a bit of advice, I have been looking at this camera for a little bit now and I am wanting to use my degree and have a go at doing photography professionally, I have a few friends who would like portraits done of them with there children and I was wondering what the image quality is like in comparing this camera with the images you would see from a professional portrait photographer these days, it would be much appreciated.
I was wondering if you can make a video on how to get the best picture results on wildlife at night with high zoom. I spot deer from about 100-150 yards away with my flashlight and when I take a picture of them it turns out very grainy. It looks better when I am recording a video but the video setting won’t zoom in as far as the picture setting. Thank you in advance.
What will give me better quality shots at 50X or 1200mm
The HX300 or a Sony NEX6 with a 200mm lens and then I crop the pic to zoom in the same subject? Will the larger sensor give me a better result?

I was thinking of getting the p520 Nikon cause those have wide iso ranges for shooting in bad lit places. Tho i heard some distubing things about build quality and slow auto-focus. Any thoughts on this ?

is it as good as the Panasonic FZ200? Debating which to get - Panasonic with a F2.8 through out the zoom vs the variable size on Sony - but I would suspect that IS is a bit better in the Sony - Panasonic only at 600mm - so would be a trade off - but just wondering if I can hold stead at 1200mm F6.3 ?? - You are right Sony RX100 just awesome - just debating if IS is good enough at F6.3 in not so good light
Hola amigo. Quisiera saber tu opinión. Ya que tengo la posibilidad de comprarme esta cámara, pero me entró la duda porque con un precio muy parecido al que tiene esta puedo conseguir la Nikon d3100 Reflex. Mi problema surge en que la Nikon trae apenas 14,2MP y la Sony (que es compacta) trae 20,4MP y mayor zoom. Que me aconsejarías vos?? Sería de gran ayuda la opinión de alguien que conozca ambas cámaras. Saludos.

I didn't know here was threading for filters which is GREAT! The panorama mode is terrific and your demonstrations of hand held shots to show both range and image stabilization knocked out.

how do you put the camera in macro and shoot close ups?
The camera will detect proximity to an image and switch to macro mode--as long as you're not in manual focus mode. The camera won't do a perfect job, all the time--but it usually does a good job. There will be an icon on the screen that looks like a flower, when it does so. If you haven't checked out the expert series on this channel, be sure to do...we will be producing a video that covers--including manual focus that can be used when shooting macro.

which one is better SONY DSC HX400V or CANON SX 50 HS...
I like both cameras but prefer the 60fps video on the HX400. Low light is better on HX400. The SX50 is easier to carry and I like the way its screen flips around for protection while transporting it. With the peaking and GPS features the HX400 packs a little bit more of a punch.

BTW hate the way now Sony has you charge only via USB - I got a aftermarket battery charger and extra batteries for my RX100 so I could use to charge the HX300 battery :)
