I've watched a number of YT videos on how to cook a steak in an air fryer and your video has been the best so far. I especially liked your comments on why you used the air fry option instead of the broil or grill options. I also liked that you used the temp prob to monitor the doneness of the steaks. Thanks for the great tips.
A little trick. I learned from my Cuisinart that a lot of splatter goes up and cakes on the top and the upper heating elements. So I purchased a 2nd air fry basket and put it above what I'm cooking. This stops almost all of the splatter and doesn't interfere with the air flow.
Wow great tip. I’ve got an old round fine mesh splatter shield with a handle, it’s meant to go over a frying pan or saucepan. I might have to dig that out and try it. Probably I’ll have to cut off the handle 😅
I can’t believe you stopped at 2 bites!!! It looks so good and I appreciate how (and why) you do each step. Very clear and easy to follow. I can’t believe Ninja doesn’t really have a good steak recipe in the little cookbook they give (just guidelines). Now I know how to use the probes, what temperature to use, and the time. Thanks so much, can’t wait to make my own delicious steak!!!
Mmmm, steak! I've heard people cook steaks in air fryers, but for me, only cooking for myself, I cook them way faster searing in a skillet then finishing in the oven. Cook time is generally 10-12 minutes. In the skillet, I start with a little olive oil and coarsely chopped garlic on medium high heat, put the steak in to sear each side for about 1 - 1.5 minute. I add butter in and spoon it onto the steak. I also sear the edges, holding the steak with tongs. I personally use cast iron, but I also have stainless copper clad high end skillets that work well and can also go straight into the oven. For my oven, it takes about another 6-7 minutes to get an 8 oz fillet to medium. I'm sure if I were cooking larger ribeye like yours it would take longer. Those look to be 12-14 oz steaks. Thanks for the great demo, I'm going to try this method just to see if I can have a less involved way to cook them. Instead of using the grill mates, try using just some Himalayan pink salt and try to find some Malabar black peppercorns and coarsely grind the pepper for your seasoning. Also, put the seasoning on the sides....it's simple, but has great results flavor-wise.
So glad I found you on TH-cam. Like yours, my XL on broil for steaks was not up to par. Used your basket method and my steaks came out fantastic. Thanks!!!
Always a pleasure Darnell...You're tutorial was EXCELLENT!! The patience to prepare, monitor 3 steaks w/probes, wires, and a flip with a hot oven n hot oil...that was purely the ART of Cooking!! You didn't miss a beat!!👏 You're family are truly blessed to have you around!!! I can not imagine all of the different ovens you have but if I hear of anyone who has any of these ovens or thinking of one... I always send them your way!!!💚
Purely the ART of stupid 😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ Steaks that take 40 minutes to make 🤣🤣🤣 how about that? He must have too much time on his hands to even bother to do that in an oven 😂😂😂🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
I watch you a year ago and final brought the countertop ninja . It arrived the same day I was planning to make two ribeyes in my regular oven. I decided to wait...and watch a video and voila...glad I found you again..because I did not wanna mess my ribeyes up...gonna follow your exact lead. My Recipe: Wash steaks lightly in Vinegar & Water. Then Season. Disinfect plus Hydrates meat to seal in Juices. My Marinate... Low sodium LaChoy Soy Sauce Black Pepper Garlic Powers Canadian Steak Seasoning. Marinate Overnight
We just bought the 8 in 1 and came across your video while looking for ways to cook steak. Came out great and can’t wait to watch more of your videos! Thanks!
Darnell thank you for yet another detailed and outstanding demonstration. I love Ribeye steaks and mostly I use my Ninja Foodi Grill for Ribeye steaks and they come out great; I cook them to a medium rare around 130 degrees before I pull them. Mostly I try to buy larger steaks to about 2-inches in height but sometimes it's hard to get thick steaks at the grocery store unless I go to my local butcher shop. Using the Foodi Grill, grill function at High heat 500 degrees, give me fantastic sear marks each side and I do the 3-2-1 method (3 minutes each side, then 2-minutes each side followed by 1-minute each side which gives me a juicy medium rare cook, which I prefer. I've used the McCormick Grill Mates Montreal Steak Seasoning which is good but lately I have been using McCormick Grill Mates Brown Sugar Bourbon Seasoning which adds a great flavor and helps render the fat in the steak much better. I'm definitely going to make some Ribeye steaks in my Ninja Oven using the method you have shown. Yep the middle one is more to my like-n... Darnell you are the man!
I just made a ribeye steak per your directions (again, sooo much better than the itty bitty cookbook that came with the Ninja Foodi) and it came out PERFECT!!! Thank you for your channel and help!!
I use to do the same thing you're doing now, pour my oil over whatever I'm cooking. I pour just a little oil into one of those little cups that come with the rice cookers and spread the oil with a silicone basting brush. Make less of a mess and there's less oil that would creat smoke as well. Just remembered that canola oil starts to smoke at 400° vs almond oil, which I use, that smokes at 500°.
Ok, done! I just used up part of my little guy’s precious nap time to watch this whole video and you just sold me this Foodie!! That steak looks AMAZING. Great video, thanks for sharing!!!!!!
Nice demonstration. I would add, you need to pull the steaks out when they hit about 10 degrees below your desired temp and let the steak sit for about 5 min. If you like your steak medium rare, about 135 F, then pull it out at 125F. The steaks will continue to cook when you pull them out and they will also retain more juice if you let them sit 5 min before cutting them.
I opened my ninja XL pro box while watching your unboxing of it. LOL.... Now I'm about to air fry some Ribeyes...And your cookbook arrived today with it!! Amazon baby
Dude! Nice job! I am new to the XL Pro Air Fry oven and preparing my first steaks. I had EXACTLY this same question before I checked out your video (should I use broil, or will that pan end up blocking some of the air flow?). I’m definitely going the air fry route based on your video. Well explained, well produced, very helpful, appreciate it!
By the way, how is cleanup of the air fry basket? I’ve found, generally, so far, it’s pretty easy to clean but I haven’t put any foods that oily on it yet.
Just saw your video. You did a great job. I’m going to try air fry for first time because of your video. Like your ending of showing you taste your cooking. Well done and good luck with future videos!
Looks good, but I like medium rare, and a nice crust outside. I use a cast iron pan to sear both sides and edges, and then stick the pan in the oven for finishing with a thermometer. I prefer this to reverse sear, because the finishing to final temp can be monitored.
I so appreciate your site because no matter how I scour the Internet I can never find recipes for this type of air fryer toaster oven they generally do the recipes for the basket style they don't have all the additional settings that this oven has so I'm never quite sure whether to use air fry baked broil but you help me a lot! I have a large London broil that I would like to try and I've always marinated it overnight in ken's Italian dressing, ketchup, and Coke so I'm wondering should I pat the marinade to get most of it off before putting in the air fryer and then heat thoroughly the marinade to use as a sauce after as I don't want the sugars in the marinade to really burn
I feel like if you needed to make more steaks than you have space for on the cast iron, that would be a good reason to bring out the grill. Thanks Darnell. I've watched a few of your reviews and appreciate the information.
Great video!!! I'd recommend it you like a great sear you can purchase the Ninja grill XL sear plate directly from Ninja which has open large voids in it so you can still air fry it all around & achieve a great sear! Keep up the great work. I am really enjoying your videos 👍
Looks so yummy when I go to the Costco shopping always passed by the meat section and pick up One of these packages also I like tri-rip too.. You made it so juicy and yummy, when I go my mom house she make some special mushrooms and wine creamy sauce and pour on it, gets so creamy and delicious when she serve it
Like your reviews. Great job! Looking at this one or the Kalorik one you did. This seems to be much better and worth the extra cost. Only thing this one is so much bigger
I just purchased one of these and I'm so excited to use it! Thanks so much for your video! I do have a question, though. So, my old air fryer would cook a steak in about six to eight minutes per side. So, this one takes 25 to 30 minutes? The one I have has a smart thermometer. I'm seriously new to this, only used my old air fryer a few times, ha! It was way to small to make sense for us to use. Thanks again, love your videos!
Nicely done. I have to get a temp probe for my ninjaxloven. I couldn't see inside your oven. Do you have the one without the screen? I did just make some loin lamb chops and they came out beautiful using the Oven Roast feature and I did have them in the roaster pan. I like using the roaster pan because ninja says it keeps the smoke and grease down. I also used parchment paper under the grill top and saved myself a lot of cleanup. Thank you.
@WaveOvenRecipes yeah you have a valid point for sure. Great video loved it and keep up the great and informative content. Also I highly appreciate the response and hope to see more videos from you in the future. 👍
I could almost see the joy in your face when you took that first bite. 😊 I’d hate to see what the inside of that unit looked like afterwards. 😮 How was the cleanup, especially for the mesh basket?
