    My gosh! One of the few people I see using the wrench the correct way. You break then you motorize. Great technique. You should've mentioned that in your video. That way, you save battery and preserve the motor.

    Like i said before, on my early '05 530d i deleted everything except the catalic converter. It seems it was a car with the early egr/swirlflaps fitted but it was not registered as being a euro-4 type of car. I pay taxes for it being a filty euro-3 diesel so i'm legally allowed to delete al egr related stuff without getting in trouble with the law.
    Main benefits for me are 1. the oil has a much longer life because it doesn't age as fast. 2. glowplugs last much longer 3. the car is way more reliable and needs less maintenance.
    I can not enter environmental zones over here in Holland, but i'm fine with that. Only under full load it smokes a bit, and yes driving ANY car is bad for the environment.
    In the end it all boils down to 1 thing: Money ;)

    My 325d was running like a old donkey.
    I put Red X in the whole bottle in half a tank of diesel and within 30 min it cleared the lot.
    My blocked EGR and blocked DPF run it with Red X in for a month took the thing to bits and it was clear.
    It shocked me I'm a mechanic and as it was my own motor kept putting it on the back burner as we do.
    But honestly if you read this give it a go.

    You will get a very small power boost (Dyno proven) & improved throttle response by deleting/blanking the EGR.
    I tried to maintain and clean the one on my Honda Civic regularly but it still ended up causing a problem at about 100k miles/10 yrs old.
    Caused a very slight flat spot & hesitation in the revs where it was presumably sticking open or closed momentarily, as soon as it was deleted from the ECU and blanked off the problem was gone and 20k miles later has never returned, left it would have only got worse.

    • @adamwest1138
      @adamwest1138 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I had the same problem as you, the fault came up after the EGR vacuum solenoid failed. The diaphragm had torn, so the solenoid was activating and deactivating all the time as the vacuum pressure fluctuated.
      Even though the vacuum outlet to the EGR was blocked with a screw it threw the emissions code which meant that the active regen for the DPF was disabled- which ruined my DPF.
      This leads me to think that the ECU will recognise an EGR fault via two separate signals- 1. The EGR valve, 2. The vacuum solenoid.
      I replaced the EGR vacuum solenoid and changed the vacuum lines while I was there and the problem went away.
      If you do this, don't forget to clear all the fault codes, because if there is a exhaust backpressure code present it won't run a regen either, and the first exhaust backpressure code doesn't come up on your iDrive system, it only comes up once it reaches the second (higher) pressure level. Use ISTA/INPA to clear them.

    If you are using the car on the road, it's better to keep the EGR system well maintained instead of deleting it. In addition to obvious and legal reasons, I think it might also bring a longevity benefit since recirculating the exhaust gases helps keep cylinder temperatures down, thus possibly reducing some amount of wear and tear on the head and whatnot (if anyone knows one way or another, I'd appreciate a reply on that topic).

    • @JohannesDahl42
      @JohannesDahl42 ปีที่แล้ว

      Swirl flaps and EGR valve itself clogging are a real problem, of course, but they can be cleaned at some interval, right? Also, the soot buildup should be pretty slow if your PCV valve is working properly (thus no oil to mix with the recirculated gas in a sticky way) and your EGR cooler is clean enough to be effective (thus the recirculated gas would not be too hot by the time it gets to the EGR valve, again reducing stickiness).
      That being said, I have a 120d with a M47 engine, and when I bought it second hand at around 100k miles, its intake manifold and surrounding parts were so clogged that it had an EGR valve actuation error and, as it turned out, the air path in the intake tubes were about 1/3 the original diameter. That was fixed with a bit of cleaning effort. I don't know what the state of the PCV valve and EGR cooler were at that time.

    To me logically an EGR is going to destroy the engine.
    Clean air (via air filter) mixes with fuel and is compressed in diesel engines. Imagine then introducing air already burnt into the combustion chambers. You will have clean air, dirty carbon air and fuel. It will wear the engine premiturely in my opinion. I service my n57 330d every 8k ish but imagine people who leave it for 17k/2 years. Oil will be like sludge.

    Although it is not illegal to remove the EGR from your vehicle, it is an offence under the Road vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations (Regulation 61a(3))1 to use a vehicle which has been modified in such a way that it no longer complies with the air pollutant emissions standards it was designed to meet. Removal of the EGR will almost invariably contravene these requirements. The potential penalties for failing to comply with Regulation 61a are fines of up to £1,000 for a car or £2,500 for a light goods vehicle.

    If you own a diesel you need to keep the EGR in the UK, this is the section is cut and pasted out of the MOT manual
    "
    You only need to check components that are visible and identifiable, such as diesel oxidation catalysts, diesel particulate filters, exhaust gas recirculation valves and selective catalytic reduction valves.
    If a diesel particulate filter has clearly been cut open and rewelded, you should reject it unless the vehicle presenter can show evidence that there was a valid reason to cut it open, such as for filter cleaning.
    Defect Category
    (a) Emission control equipment fitted by the manufacturer missing, obviously modified or obviously defective Major
    (b) An induction or exhaust leak that could affect emissions levels Major
    (c) Evidence that the diesel particulate filter has been tampered with Major
    "
    The problem is not the EGR its the wrong use of the car, that short journey on the school run kills diesels, white van man has the right idea when it comes to diesels.

    • @LiveFromLondon2
      @LiveFromLondon2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      short journey does not kill diesels. the egr won't open until the engine is warmed up. Short journeys in diesels is a myth - its no different to short journeys in petrol car.

  • @IZ8MWG

    Why don't remove also butterfly valves on intake mainfold? These are called butterfly of death because get cracked and pieces of them will be sucked by the engine basically destroying it damaging severely valve seats and also cylinders and pistons...diesel engines don't need intake air partialization like petrol counterparts (expecially if egr is no longer present so there is no need at all to partialize fresh air flow in order to create a precise proportion mix with egr air that is no longer present)....so better say goodbye to these evils ticking clockwork bombs asap. 😎

    EGR delete is a bit dangerous on some cars, you risk a total engine meltdown in certain high load conditions where the recirulated exhaust gas is used to tame the combustion temperatures.
    I remember one of my old bosses having to cough up the money to replace a engine on a mazda after it completely destroyed itself after we blocked the egr. (dont remember why exactly the egr got deleted, it was 20 years ago)
