Typically there is always something draining the battery from the car. Once the battery gets too dead, there is no reviving it. You can get the car to start, but the battery won't fully charge, therefore requiring a new battery. Always good to have a trickle charger on it when it's not being run for a while. That includes being at a home, not just being a full time RV'r. I don't RV, but I've had multiple problems with batteries during my deployments for the Air Force. Moral to the story, always carry spare parts. We carry an oil filter, fuel filter, engine belt and wiper blades. We once had a wiper arm fall off. Not the blade, the whole arm. Luckily it was hanging by the washer hose. Now we have a cord looped through the wiper arm and around the mirror just in case. We also carry DEF, window shield washer fluid and radiator fluid for both the toad and RV. When we stop at night we run the engine on our toad to make sure all is well then we lock it up. In the morning we run it again for at least 10 minutes before we set it up to be towed. We often do not unhook at night and by running it and locking up things are safer. We also carry spare parts for our tow bar, again just in case. ACE hardware is a good place to get propane. Stay well.

That is to funny. We were going from Green River, Utah to Grand Junction, CO. The whole wiper arm fell off. Pouring down rain, I reinstalled the arm only to have it fall off again. Locktite held till we got to Grand Junction truck stop and bought a replacement
Just wanted to let you know that Etrailer has a battery charger kit for your toad. I put one on mine just incase. It is very easy to install and wires in to your 7pin. So it charges the toad as you drive. NEVER have a dead battery again.
Been isolating almost a month now.... somewhat. Bought my RV on the 31st. Spending time purging the apartment and prepping the RV for the beginning of our full time RV experience. Heck of a time to start THAT adventure!
I always keep a battery booster in my trunk. They are compact now. No need to find another vehicle & booster cables. Since I carry one I've helped a few peoples.
I am so glad it was just a simple fox with a new battery. We are Harvest Host members too, but we have never stayed there yet. Everyone says how nice the places are. Hopefully we can hit the road sometime this year and give one a try.
By the way I have a Tiffin Allegro also and found that the 28 inch blades works just fine, don’t restrict view and you can buy them anywhere as where the 31 or 32 inch set hard to find and more costly. Left my 28’s on and no issues.
Our toad is a 2017 Trailhawk and we have not had any battery issues while towing. We had our motorhome set up to charge the toad battery when the toad is connected. Be aware there is a second battery, for start/stop, under the front passenger seat and that battery can cause starting issues as we found out. #GONAVY #GOSEABEES
Michael, you do not mention if yours is a Cherokee or Grand Cherokee, but the Cherokee (which Phil and Stacy has) does not have a second stop/start battery. I believe the GC does. I am not sure if this is true in the 2019 update or not.
I follow several full timers on YT. You guys are so relatable and you do a great job on your videos. You are absolutely one of my favorites. Thanks for everything you do, Paul from Texas
Make sure you get a battery twist disconnect installed. Go through the tow mode procedure, and then after you complete that, twist the disconnect to off. Then you won't have any issues with a dead battery.
@@todayissomeday First in the KL Cherokee with flat tow harness...you cannot disconnect the battery. That keeps the electric steering active which prevents the "death wobble". On the 2019, the flat tow harness was eliminated and built into the system which eliminates a couple of extra steps, but the battery must still be in use. As mentioned before, a charge wire is the best option, but if not, you would need to charge your battery by running the car after every so many hours of use. After 4 years, my original battery is still going strong.
Hi Guys, As far as backup or primary heat you might consider the Espar or Wabasto diesel heaters. Although it might not keep the entire unit "hot" {temp. depending} it will definitely take the chill off. And it runs off diesel. I use mine all the time and it is a great heat source and cheap to run. Stay safe.
There is usually a little clip to keep them (wiper blades) in place and sometimes they break. When KW had a special mounting bolt that prevented this we didn’t have to worry but it also was harder to find replacements so we carried them in the truck.
I wish I was out there on the road and we were all able to visit. I am turning 51 tomorrow and it would have been great to celebrate it with all the awesome folks in the RVing community. Oh well, maybe next year.
We stayed at the same golf course you stayed at on our way into Tx about 3 weeks ago. The course is fantastic (we dont golf though). Looks like we stayed in about the place as you as well. The parking lot does have a strange slant and twist ar the same time. I also used blocks under my tires. The lunch is very good. Met the owner to express how much we liked their HH commitment and how well maintained the grounds were. This was our 2nd stay at a HH golf resort. High reco. for this HH Golf membership👍.
Clever opening. This is year we were planning doing more traveling in our new rig & utilizing our harvest host, but when things settle down we'll have to catch with work first, guess just have to stay at more winery's & brewery to make up for it !!
Propane will last 2x to 3x times longer if you simply install a $10 -- 15 minute timer on your hot water heater. 15 minutes will give you enough warm/hot water for 2 showers and enough left over to wash dishes. Keeping water hot all the time is a waste of $$$ ...and hassle of finding and filling. Alabama has removed propane refills from hardware stores and gas stations because propane vehicles weren't paying road taxes.
We have a 2016 Cherokee that had a bad battery after only a year as well. I'm thinking they are scrimping on cheap batteries from the factory. Glad you got it all fixed and made it home!
Hmmm. First; thank you both for the update. On that battery issue. We’ve a Subaru with a Push Start. Here’s the thing. One day it wouldn’t Start; everything was Off; or so it seemed. I tried Trickle Charging it; tried an Emergency USB type jump; and finally a Vehicle to vehicle Jump Start. It Started with the vehicle to vehicle jump, but seemed not to take a charge, despite having charged for over an hour. Lucky for me, Old School; my Stepson, who consults in the Auto Industry; stopped by as this is happening. I asked him to look and see, what was happening. Within a blink, he had started the car. Turned out; the ‘Push Start’ has been on all along and had never been Shut Off. My Stepson spotted this; shutoff the ‘Push Start’, and as I’d already charged the car,. It started. Hope this helps someone. Stay well and stay healthy.
We bought a multifunction device on Amazon for about $100. It has charger cables and has an internal battery strong enough to jump a vehicle. I charged it a year ago and forgot about it. Then one day our Class C wouldn’t start. I hooked it up and it fired right off. It also has USB ports to charge devices. And a small air compressor built in.
I tow a 2018 Cherokee. When Jeep set it up, they only installed a 4-pin connector. I didn’t have a 12v charge line. I changed that out to a 6-pin with 12v from my Allegro Bus. Then I installed an RVI battery tender. I still need to remove the fuse and start the Jeep when I park for the night. I also bought a NOCO Boost GB70 battery charger.
We have a Cherokee Latitude. We keep hitting the light switch with our knees taking it off auto. Have to look at everything to figure out what is chiming. No battery issues though. I can NOT get it in neutral. Drags the rear tires which we ck for each time. Frustrating, but I can get it out of neutral no problem and hook up and take of the brake thing amazing! Newbie since Feb. 28. 2022 when we left Oregon. I-10 East to FL, now heading North. Missed those Texas storms middle March by 2 days. The construction was frightening for me and the mountains coming out of OR and into CA! Cool in a car (when it isn't snowing!), not so much in a 40' towing....another story. I think I will start a journal so the kids will have something to laugh at when I am old. Love following your trip.
You, Me & the RV we were actually having solar anxiety that night hoping we would make it through the night heating the rv - One 160 watt panel and a couple of batteries and we did fine 😁 Probably should have talked to the pros next door though 😉
You mentioned putting wood blocks under your tires at the golf course. We used to do that. One rain storm, puddle or bad drainage and the wood is done. We got 2 four packs of these for your DP class A. They work great. Can be stacked, wipe off so there is no mess, and we use them under our jacks some times as well. Never will use wood again. You guys are a breath of fresh air. I like your content and your down to earth attitude. I hope when we start out on the road that we get to meet you. Please stay safe.
Hey guys I have had the same wiper issues. I now carry a spare set of blades. Let's talk about batteries. The parasitic draw drains our chassis batteries constantly. So I put a battery tender on the chassis batteries. When we stop for a few days to a few months I connect it to the batteries and plug it in problem solved. On a positive note we got the inspections complete and all our PM done. We are ready to roll I feel like Stacy standing next to the road ready to go. Take care hope all is well. M
Thanks Mike. I will carry spare blades from now on as well. I will look into the battery minder. I ordered a charge pack already in the event we are out on BLM and this happens again. I hope to jump on our maintenance next week.
Now THAT was a funny opening video. So glad to see you are still moving about and having fun, even with the wiper blade and battery issues. We had hoped to be able to depart our Ohio home in our new RV Fifth-Wheel by the 15th of April since our house-sitters moved in in early March, but alas, that ain't going to happen now. Our new target date is around the first week of May, but if things don't work out for whatever reason then who knows when that will be after than. Stay safe, stay healthy and maybe we'll (2 retired Army soldiers) see you on the road someday.
Glad you guys made it to SAT. Agree with you on the propane. We just had our underground tank at our sticks and bricks filled earlier this week and it was $2.59/gal. Given that oil prices have cratered and gas/diesel has come down slowly, you would think propane would come down, as well. Nope! Stay safe . Look forward to your next video. They are getting better and better.
Very common to use the 28" blades. We do. Available everywhere and cheap. We, too, had a case of using something (duct tape in my case) to hold a blade on until we could get one! Enjoyed this episode.
I have heard of a few RVers having issues with their jeep's batteries going dead when being towed. When we were considering using a Jeep for a toad, the RV dealership recommended adding a charging system that keeps the Jeep's battery charged. We went a different route opting to trailer instead.
We came off the road three weeks ago back at home in Vegas at daughter home just waiting it out staying safe and healthy you guys do the same stay safe and healthy
Yes hair ties have a multitude of uses! Lol I love your humor and keeping things positive -have to do that, especially in these times. Thanks guys! - MJ
Hey, if you are ever up in Michigan, a great Harvest Host to stay at is Fenn Valley Winery just outside of Fennville, MI. Very near where I lived before moving to Walton, KY. They have a great bakery and good eats there. Also very near to Saugatuck, a little harbor town reminiscent of a North Eastern state harbor town. You'd like it there. Lots of great little bars and restaurants and just a few miles south of Holland, where they have a great Tulip Festival in the Spring.
We have been to the Fenn Valley winery and agree with your assessment of that whole part of the state. Our favorite wines come from the Leelanau and Old Mission Peninsulas. There are also a few Boondockers Welcome hosts in Michigan as well. :-)
Wait. Y'all were allowed entry to a restaurant?! Oops, my bad. A month ago...got it. I'm so forgetful. That opening though was very clever and I'd be more like Phil chilling in place. Improvisation is RV life. Phil is a awesome handyman, Hi, Stacy!
I don't have a jeep but if I leave my CR-V connected overnight I have to turn the key off or it will run down the battery. I make the practice to start it and let it charge or put a charger on it after a day of travel. I also start it and let it charge during our stops for lunch. I would check but if you change anything go back and do your setup to get ready to tow over again. Better safe than expensive. One outher thing. When unhooking the jeep. Start the jeep and put it in drive to take any tension off the towbar then put it in park so it won't roll. So when you release the arms there is no tension on the pins and they are easy to remove. LOL if you get realey board you can wax the rig.
Was told we didn't need to do anything to the battery on the 2019's...more research is needed! Normally when I put the parking brake on I don't have to worry about rolling. I just hit the unlock bar on the tow arms and takes tension off the pins.
@@todayissomeday "I just hit the unlock bar on the tow arms and takes tension off the pins." Yes it does unless you are on a slight incline. Just try it a couple of times. The slight forward preshure ensures you won't have tension on the pins when you unlock the tow arms and it will be more secure in park.
Great Video. I flat tow a Jeep Wrangler. My plug in has a charging pin from the tow vehicle (like when towing a trailer) that keeps the jeep battery charged. You might look into that setup. Also I have heard on the newer jeeps you can get a steering wobble when the battery goes dead. Something to do with the electric part of the power steering system. My jeep is a 2000 so I don't have to worry about it. Stay safe and well.
We use a charger that monitors so it does not over charge, or drain your coach. rvibrake.com/products/towed-battery-charger-plus?variant=13115309260823

We had the same thing happen to our brand new 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trail-hawk on our first trip from Tampa to Tennessee. That is to funny. We were going from Green River, Utah to Grand Junction, CO. The whole wiper arm fell off. Pouring down rain, I reinstalled the arm only to have it fall off again. Locktite held till we got to Grand Junction truck stop and bought a replacement
Loved the beginning. Totally have done that! Awesome. Puts a smile on anyone who watches this face! 😎😄😁😀😆☺️😊🥰😍😘
Glad you enjoyed it
Just wanted to let you know that Etrailer has a battery charger kit for your toad. I put one on mine just incase. It is very easy to install and wires in to your 7pin. So it charges the toad as you drive. NEVER have a dead battery again.
Will look into it, thanks!
Been isolating almost a month now.... somewhat. Bought my RV on the 31st. Spending time purging the apartment and prepping the RV for the beginning of our full time RV experience. Heck of a time to start THAT adventure!
I know!! Sorry you cant get those wheels turning! Hopefully soon.
I always keep a battery booster in my trunk. They are compact now. No need to find another vehicle & booster cables. Since I carry one I've helped a few peoples.
We have one now!
We have purchased 28s before too. No problems!
This is correct.
I just had to pause for a moment. That opening is Awesome! Perfect!
Glad you liked it!
I follow several full timers on YT. You guys are so relatable and you do a great job on your videos. You are absolutely one of my favorites. Thanks for everything you do, Paul from Texas
Thank you so much! Thanks so much for your support!! Stay well.
Make sure you get a battery twist disconnect installed. Go through the tow mode procedure, and then after you complete that, twist the disconnect to off. Then you won't have any issues with a dead battery.
Was told I didn't need a battery cut off switch on the 2019's.....will be doing more research.
We will be doing the same!
Your opening sequence was wonderful, I laughed out loud. Yes, be safe and wash your hands .
Glad you enjoyed it
I wish I was out there on the road and we were all able to visit. I am turning 51 tomorrow and it would have been great to celebrate it with all the awesome folks in the RVing community. Oh well, maybe next year.
Happy birthday Wesley! Hopefully we can get back out soon!!
Great opening! Yes, wiper blades coming off the arm is a PAIN! (And that is only in my dodge pickup...can’t imagine the frustration on a 31” wiper!!!)
Glad you enjoyed it as well. Very clean and quite.....like we like them!!
Excellent video. You Navy folks are allright. Glad hear yall are well and safe. GO ARMY
HAHA....Thanks Jonathan!
Clever opening. This is year we were planning doing more traveling in our new rig & utilizing our harvest host, but when things settle down we'll have to catch with work first, guess just have to stay at more winery's & brewery to make up for it !!
Sounds like a great plan to me!
Propane will last 2x to 3x times longer if you simply install a $10 -- 15 minute timer on your hot water heater.
15 minutes will give you enough warm/hot water for 2 showers and enough left over to wash dishes. Keeping water hot all the time is a waste of $$$
...and hassle of finding and filling.
Always use Rain ex . The less slant on the windows the better it works even without wipers . The harder it rains the better .
That is interesting. I wonder if that is what it was.
Next time we visit Corpis Cristie TX we will have to check out the whistling Duck winery, we are Harvest host members too,
That is such a cute beginning number!
Enjoy! Steve
Had the same wiper blade issue. I replaced the blades and everything works fine.
We have a seven pin connector already and I just added a boost pack!
Sorry, forgot to proof read. Changes my words. That's irritating too! Lol
Just got my TSD card and used it just once. Saved $12 on a 20 gallon fill up in my diesel truck!
Awesome!!
You are lucky on the propane. My rig has a huge tank and when I last filled it at a KOA it was 147.90 to fill it from a 1/8 tank.
Yikes!
Good to show that it’s not all butterflies and rainbows! And I got to see our Lance trailer next to Ruby at Flying Eagle Brewing 😉
You should have come over to say hello at the brewery! We could of had a beer together....or 2!
You, Me & the RV we were actually having solar anxiety that night hoping we would make it through the night heating the rv - One 160 watt panel and a couple of batteries and we did fine 😁 Probably should have talked to the pros next door though 😉
Plastic zip ties work for sliding windshield wipers
You mentioned putting wood blocks under your tires at the golf course. We used to do that. One rain storm, puddle or bad drainage and the wood is done. We got 2 four packs of these for your DP class A. They work great. Can be stacked, wipe off so there is no mess, and we use them under our jacks some times as well. Never will use wood again. Quality Plastics Utility Block - Four Pack www.amazon.com/dp/B00PX1KITE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_MmmIEbR8FEAYM.
I like this option....will check them out!
Funny opening! gotta love cracker barrel and their generosity toward rv stays!
Oh they are super nice! We have stopped in many times and I am sure we will again.
Pull that negative battery cable prior to towing!
You guys are a breath of fresh air. I like your content and your down to earth attitude. I hope when we start out on the road that we get to meet you. Please stay safe.
That would be awesome! See ya out there!
On a positive note we got the inspections complete
and all our PM done.
Thanks for a entertaining video. While sheltering in place up in Boston,,it is videos like this that keep us going. Thanks and stay safe.
Glad you enjoyed it! We are waiting it out as well.
Thanks for your service!! Hopefully this blows over soon, so we all can get back out exploring our great country! Go Navy! ;)
It is just crazy right!! Stay well!
I’m glad to hear that,I obviously missed your statement at the beginning of the video. Keep well.
;)
I just found your channel. You are inspirational and sincere. Reminds me of and my wife of 31 years. RV ing may be our next adventure.
That is awesome!
Loved the opening. Got a good chuckle.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very common to use the 28" blades. We do. Available everywhere and cheap. We, too, had a case of using something (duct tape in my case) to hold a blade on until we could get one! Enjoyed this episode.
Use what cha got!! lol
Put a $20 driveway alert sensor in your tow vehicle or the back of your tow vehicle and you'll know if someone comes messing around.
I have heard of a few RVers having issues with their jeep's batteries going dead when being towed. When we were considering using a Jeep for a toad, the RV dealership recommended adding a charging system that keeps the Jeep's battery charged. We went a different route opting to trailer instead.
We were told that the new Jeeps didn't need it.....will be doing more research for sure.
@@todayissomeday yea that was what I said to that dealership but they said, "well maybe". I figured it wouldn't hurt if we had gone that route.
I grew up in Lake Charles...moved to Texas in '88...good video...
You guys are our favorite RV U-tubers god bless stay safe out there
Thanks so much! Stay well!
We came off the road three weeks ago back at home in Vegas at daughter home just waiting it out staying safe and healthy you guys do the same stay safe and healthy
We agree that sitting is the best option right now! Stay well.
Keep the videos coming. Gives me something good to do while I’m under quarantine. I am just so lucky that the fine COVID-19 decided to visit me.
Oh no! I am sorry to hear that. Please get will quickly!
Yes hair ties have a multitude of uses! Lol I love your humor and keeping things positive -have to do that, especially in these times. Thanks guys! - MJ
Yes! Thank you!
Stay safe!!!! And now you'll have a Backup set of wipers!! Thx!
You got that right!
Great opening. We all need to still have fun!!! Be safe yourselves.
Thanks! Laughter soothes the soul right now!
Glad to see y'all still got that Lone Star State of Mind - Margaritas & Mexican Cuisine! Stay Safe & Healthy!
The best cuisine!!
Thanks Wesley! We can't wait to get up to your neck of the woods! Sounds like our kind of place!
Thanks friend!!
Both of you ..... are 2 amazing individuals.. you make my RV life dream real ! We’re still on a 18 month goal ! Thank u 🙏
Aw shucks, thanks Calvin! Those 18 months will fly by!!
I'm glad you got the windshield wiper fixed! I've had that happen before...not fun and really pretty dangerous! Happened to us going to TN from WV in some serious downpours.
It was great to meet both of you at the RV Park outside of San Antonio. Hope you've found a great spot to hang out until the Corona craziness is over!
We are hunkered down! Stay well.
We had the same thing happen to our brand new 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trail-hawk on our first trip from Tampa to Tennessee. We thought we did something wrong but it turned out that we had a defective battery from the factory. Has worked well ever since. If you need an overnight plugin and think you can stomach an AF toad on a beautiful lake in Tennessee, give us a shout and yes we have 50 amp and for your comfort, we have a retired Navy O6 across street😎🇺🇸
Thanks for the offer Jim! We may take you up on that....if we ever get back on the road!!! We are sooooo ready!!!
@@todayissomeday would love to have you plenty of room in our driveway and looking at 400 miles of shoreline on each side.
Phil is a great walking billboard!
Thank you about Harvest Host.
Welcome
The beginning was epic... freakin' hilarious!!! 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
