Hey Ron, I have bought most of your plans and implement your lean philosophy into my contracting business. You are an inspiration to all those who strive for organization and efficiency in their work. Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time to make your videos and share your ideas and experience. Take care from a loyal subscriber
I would like to build one of those from scratch and I have bought your plans and have a 6x12 trailer now. I would love to see how you would dress one of those out now with the lean system
So as you where talking about the tongue on this trailer, one thing I do that I haven't seen alot of is, I put a front hitch on my truck, they are cheap and available for most models. Obviously not as nimble as the trailer valet but it's perfect for sneaking heavy trailers around back of a job or in really tight spots. Great for demo work on remodels if the yard isn't crazy nice or if you put down plywood.
I remember you showed this trailer in a prior video and even today it is a great design. Most contractor I've worked with on my home projects just throw everything under a pickup cap.
I don't think it looks archaic at all, I really like this. You're not moving the table saw, chop saw, benches etc. and setting them up when you get to the job, that's already in place. A guy could easily integrate a router table insert in the table saw outfeed, and possibly a 4" jointer in the chop saw table. You've got an awning all around, compressor and vacuum stay plugged in and ready, plus all that storage inside. It appears to be at least 4' height in there, so you could haul sheet goods inside. You talked about ladder racks on the top, and that's a great use of that space. It's super compact, the receiver hitches on BOTH ends is just a fantastic upgrade. I assume you've got leveling legs under it, but if not, that wouldn't be hard to add, or just use jackstands or bottle jacks. I don't understand how the SMART woodshop is better than this.
Brilliant! This the first of your videos that I have seen. I subscribed two minutes into it! Thank you for sharing your insights and reasoning. It sounds like common sense, but common sense is in short supply now adays!
I'd think this is a lot better if you have a crew working. The SMART woodshop seems better for 1 man as you "set shop" inside the house you are working on and you can leave everything there. I wouldn't leave a trailer like this out in the open. I'd love to get plans to this kind of trailer, because when I have a crew this would be so much better than the SMART woodshop imo.
Really a cool Trailer Ron! Those are 3500lb axles under that trailer fwiw. 5 lug is 3500lb, 6 lug is 5200lb, 8 lug is 7 or 8000 lb depending on a multitude of things. I sold enclosed trailers and flatbed trailers and those Track Racks for pickups for decades at my Tool and Equipment store. They really are the best modular Truck racks. That really was a interesting trailer that had all 4 sides lift up. I haven't seen many like that before. I sold several brands of enclosed trailers and they can make huge doors on each side that lift up , but not the Entire wall! Really neat ! That was a full 8ft wide or 8 ft6" being a deck over the wheels too! Not many 16 ft tandems have a removable tongue because it has to hold so much weight, (7000lb gross) they are usually a V. No wonder! You had it modified! Nice!
Wow just when I was comfortable with my rig I see this clip. I appreciate you explaining the rationale behind your decision making. It helps follow the why you did it that way. You have jump started some thinking in my mind on this setup and doing my own version Respect for sharing, I just love it when you see another trade with great workmanship. Makes me smile and love my trade. Cheers Ron
I could have swore you were partnered with fast cap. that trailer, I drove about 3 hours to see a demo on it years ago, I was close to pulling the trigger, there were some things that didnt work for me so I bought a big box truck instead
Hi Ron! Wow! I’m Impressed! Very Well Thought Out, & not an inch of Wasted Space! I have a question about the Hitachi Miter Saw. I couldn’t really tell by the video, & I took a Screenshot but just couldn’t get enough detail to see if that is the model with the Digital Display for the Miter & Bevel. I’ve Been Drooling over that saw ever since I first saw one many years ago, and if I didn’t already own 2 others that never Died and gave me a reason, I would have bought one. I’ve heard and seen mixed reviews on it, & I think they were mostly about the Accuracy of the readout & possibly the strength of the motor. It’s been a long time & can’t recall specifically. I’m really only interested in the digital model as I know they make a Non-Digital version too. I assume that you’re happy with it since you’re using it, but what are your thoughts or Opinions on it? Also Hitachi has always been in the lower to middle end of the Price Spectrum, & do you think that you’re getting More Bang for Your Buck compared to the other Big Name Saws. Keep the Videos Coming, & I wish you well. Thank You, Jim. 🔨🪚🪛💰
Hey, Jim, that was a long time ago. I don't remember what saw it was, but do remember I didn't like it at all. I like some Hitachi Tools, but not a big fan of their miter saws and table saws. I did have a 15" hitachi miter saw that I used for 10 years and really enjoyed using, but that was in the days prior to sliding miter saws. My main miter saw is a Kapex and it is hard to use anything else now that I have gotten so use to it.
@@TheSmartWoodshop No, But I have some leads for the plans that I could chase. After watching your vid I found that one sold at auction in Denver CO this spring. - Depending on my ability to find the buyer I might be able to generate a working set of plans for a custom trailer builder. It would be a side project for me.
@@eugenec1733Go for it. It sounds like a nice side hustle if it’s in your wheelhouse and you have fab area. The hard work has already been done and you know there is a market for it, not a lot of them but then it’s a side hustle the seems to have a reasonable margin.
I enjoy your channel. I've been watching for a few years now. Back in February of 2019 you demonstrated the UJK Parf Guide System and it has made my home workshop so much more productive, just like your Paulk Workbench (I ordered the plans a quite a few years ago). Peter Parfitt has developed a "UJK Parf Fence" to go along with his MFT. When you have a chance, can you please review this new Parf Fence. I'd like to purchase one but I'd like an experts opinion before I do that. Thanks
@@bigwillysgarage2301 From memory Ron WAS working with FastCap. But I don't think it was financially viable. I think he said they were losing money on every Paulk Bench they sold. Freight was high too from memory. The new bench FastCap are making looks WAY too complicated to set up. And pack away.
Yes, a really, really Smart Mobile Woodshop -- getting close to the Albert Einstein -- Richard Feynman level of smart. You could call it the "AERF-MoWs"

I'm loving the story telling, would love to see some of your whole house builds too. Thx
Ron, thanks for taking the time to put this and all the other videos together. You’ve been a huge inspiration.
Wow this was a fantastic trailer. I really hope you find another one and get to build it out with your modern designs.

I've seen this style trailer before - always wanted one. Thanks for the walkthrough.
Ron that is an awesome looking trailer i'm not a builder or contractor and i want one. Thanks for sharing and i think we're going to enjoy story time.
Thanks for sharing Ron and keep them coming!
I am really liking this trailer! You were far ahead of your time! Pretty awesome!
Hey Ron, that trailer reminds me a little of the trailers I have seen on TH-cam that builders in Australia have.
Love it, Ron. Show us some more!
I think I've seen you flash that in previous videos. I've always wanted to know more. Thanks for the tour!
The Paulk “Really” smart wood shop ! Lol cool trailer Ron, enjoyed the story !

At 14:41 I found the bolt cutters tucked in the hinge joint Ron :) Hahaha. use every inch of space!
Awesome trailer, you inspire many!
Ron, Appreciate the content today and I’m really looking forward to seeing you make sawdust again.
Great Story Beautiful Trayler ... Thanks For Sharing... Is A 16' By?
Great video !!!! I love the thought that goes into multi purpose equipment. 😍😍😍👏👏
Whenever that trailer was opened it would require an armed guard constantly walking around it to protect everything.

ah, it looks like the relationship is no more. but I did find vids on line proving my memory is intact lol
Anyone else having issues with Ron's Store? Some categories are not showing up and of course it's the things I want to get.
Regarding your truck rack, is that a Thule TracRac system?

With the trailer being open like that on all sides did you ever have people walk up and steal your tools while you were busy working
If you find someone who will build this trailer platform, please let us know. I like the smart workshop but I love the mobile work trailer.
Should talk to Matt carmona he likes to build trailers
Nice setup, I see Fastcap took your idea on the total station, made some changes and are selling it (sorry)
