Buju Banton Speaks For The First Time Since Return - Onstage March 14 2020

  • Within a year of his release Buju Banton after 10 years in U.S. custody has reclaimed his place in the upper echelon of Dancehall and Reggae. In March of 2019 Banton's 'Long Walk To Freedom' concert in Kingston, not only made history by raming Jamaica's National Stadium to capacity he also made an epic return to live performance.
The Freedom Walk went on to sell out venues across the Caribbean, Europe and Africa and before 2019 was out Buju Banton conquered perhaps the biggest fete in his walk, that of making hit records once again.
BUt how did he preserve himself, his talent, his soul over all hese years.
We had the privilege of a one on one with Buju Banton and though he understandably had no desire to recall those dreaded years of his life, he was however very direct in speaking of his preservation and return, the state of Jamaica's music, his relentless passion to raise the standard of the music and so much more.

This man is a legend. Rasta man from my youth have more than anyone else in the world discovered the rhythm of the universe. Everything I learned as a youth man from dem turned out to be the truth. I am today a professional post doctorate very successful Black man and I declare my love and gratitude for the guidance and education from every Rasta I ever interacted with as a youth.

Let's hear from the man who inspired the 90's teens and beyond, The man who also made dancehall only female attire /fashion hit song ''BATTY RIDER" none since. Man who made dancehall most notorious song "BOOM BYE BYE'. Man who caused women to start bleach "BROWNING", Man who made youths in foreign to start think differently "DEPORTEE"...And the list goes on. Then, he turned Ras and most of dancehall became conscious ( Sizzla, Capleton, Garnett Silk, Luciano) mid to late 90s, with songs like Murderer, Til Shiloh...FACTS. That's why he is the greatest! BUJU BANTON FOREVER.

This interview is raw, honest, insightful, profound.. Buju Banton is a name I grew up hearing in the 90's, his music dominated the airwaves in my country The Bahamas and it still does today. Much respect to Jamaica and the power and influence of Reggae music. He said it right, you are one small dot on the map but your CULTURE and your SOUND has been celebrated and admired by millions around the world but it also has been imitated, appropriated and flat out stolen by many. Tell your story and own your sound Jamaica!

Buju Banton IS a KING in the way that Bob Marley, Michael Jackson Fela Kuti were kings. That very first show once he got back to jamaica was more than special. This King actually created a vortex from little jamaica that I believe vibrated out in to the universe. It was spiritual and energy and blessed I. That it communicated to our ancestors and beyond. I wasn’t even there and I could feel it

Now we live to hear Buju Banton acknowledging the very same person if he had succumb to his fear wouldn't be the "VYBZ KARTEL" he is today. @fully up Buju shoul tell Kartel to stop run down kingship..Buju talk some fact but why he feels that Kartel a run danceall is because most of the radio stations and sound men them mostly plays Kartel's songs and not others like Alkaline..I hope Winford treats other artists the same and give them the same respect if they don't want to talk about certain things in the past and dont press them on speaking on it..like Alkaline and othres..Look how much things he talk about but some people a run with a few seconds of what he said about Kartel..the mind set of some people will never change.
