No because you're right... Anthony literally told Edwina that he may not be able to give her the passion and love she wants so what was she expecting?? I mean Kate even told her!!
Yeah, I think that signifies the inconsistencies & weakness of the writers. Why totally switch Edwina's outlook & motivations without given us any indication of the reasoning behind her change of heart? They did her character such a disservice. Not impressed.
I think Edwina was reading into his actions like sticking up for their family and rushing the wedding as him starting to have feelings for her after all but in reality those decisions were all about his feelings for Kate. I think she was just becoming more hopeful than ignoring what he told her before.
uhm a marriage of convenience is one thing but marrying a husband that is head over heels in love with her SISTER? she did NOT sign up for that tf??
@@coryharbour57 I don’t believe so because the morning of her wedding she still mentions how she wishes to look at him and be sure of his affections which indicates she wasn’t sure of his feelings toward her even with everything that transpired.
@@NormaReyes-vx4js Of course she was still saying “I wish he looked at me more” because he didn’t actually love her and that’s what she’s seeing. But to her he’s sending mixed signals but it’s because the signals of love she’s picking up on are for Kate but she thinks they’re for her. I’m just saying it confused her. So even though he told her “this marriage is for status” his actions gave her hope that it could become love after all but she didn’t know that those actions were for Kate.

I think she was expecting no love. What she meant by this line was that she doesn’t wanna marry someone who secretly has the hots for her sister which … ya know… is understandable.

It’s clear there she wanted him to love her. Idk where you’re getting she expected no love in the marriage? She even tells Kate in episode 4 “I thought I needed your help to make him fall in love with me” ????????

I understood edwina until she lashed out on Kate! Like wtf, she knew she was getting into a marriage without love and not once did Mary and Edwina considered Kates feeling and burden.
Yeah, it was a show addition...in the book she has other people courting her and was writing letters to one in particular...so she was totally fine with Kate marrying Anthony. There was no drama. It was absolutely NOT a love triangle...but the show shoehorned a love triangle in anyway. 🤦♀️
His actions made her hope high .... besides that how will you react if the man you're going to marry was actually in love with none other than your sister ? She felt kinda betrayed not by Anthony but with her sister specially. Kate nurtured her with a motherly best care ....but at the end , the feeling,the emotions which Edwina had was understandable. Every body would react like her if it was in real life ❤️
@@AnxietyRat The reason why they made it a love triangle in the show was because they wanted to change the forced marriage storyline from the books (which I'm happy with). Because of that they needed a different reason to keep them apart for this long.
@@caspexygirl yeah, I get why they changed it from the book...bc it was literally the same plot as the first season/book "caught in a compromising position and forced to marry"...which is...not great storyline planning for a book series, IMO. So I definitely prefer how they got married in the show...but I also HATE love triangles.
I liked the failed wedding because it made them all grow as people. Edwina needed some maturation and it actually brought her and Kate closer as sisters-now they are FULLY honest with each other. I love Edwina at the end, she encouraged Kate to fight for love! Hope to see more of her in upcoming seasons!
THANK YOU! Finally somebody remembers that Edwina was perfectly fine with Anthony offering her amiable marriage without a romantic love in it.
EDIT: And Kate told her from the very beginning that Anthony did not want love in his marriage. In fact this was THE reason why Kate was against the match from the very beginning.

I watched someone explain why edwina may be searching for love after the engagement (found it interesting) and it had something to do with Maslow's hierarchy of needs - basically when she knows her basic needs of marrying well are satisfied, she starts wishing for more, moving onto the stage of love and belonging. And also because she starts liking him more after he stood up for their family (but let's face it, he did it mostly for kAtE because he blew up right after the granny insulted her)
Edwina didn't quite seem to understand that when looking for a marriage with love AND security, you have to look for those things all at once and not in stages. Love isn't supposed to come after the engagement, especially in 1800s Royal Society, because it's hard to recant an engagement without it being embarrassing. 🤷🏾♀️

im glad edwina is finally coming into her own but that "half sister" comment hurt... i understand her feeling betrayed by them keeping this from her but i also am annoyed by everyone neglecting to bring up the fact that kate was willing to sacrifice her own happiness for her sisters'. yes, edwina never /asked/ her to do these things for her, but just a little bit of empathy or understanding would've been nice 😭 i do feel bad for edwina, it has to be pretty embarrassing to go through this situation, but as you said, her hoping to gain anthony's love even though she was told by multiple people that this wouldn't be in the cards for them, is frustrating.

@@CTM418 i do agree somewhat, however kate was completely against the match until she found out edwina “loved” him. To me, that read as her wanting her sister to be happy, bcuz regardless, anthony is who she wanted. Kate had already tried to sway her against a match with him bcuz she knew he couldn’t provide what she wanted, but edwina confessing her feelings for him changed her mind. I do find it selfless, still, but definitely short sighted on kate’s part.
Edit: forgot to mention, I do agree that kate was definitely also influenced by self preservation, not wanting to give into her feelings, but she was going to tell edwina how she felt before bozo anthony went and proposed and made everything more complicated 😭

I read the books over 10 years ago, and have reread them two times, never thought they would make them into a show.
God I was literally having the same reactions during these episodes!! 😂 I was so mad at Edwina (no matter how betrayed she felt) at how she treated Kate, especially the "half-sister" comment. But the kiss at the end OMG I WAS SCREAMING!!! 😁😁
the half sister comment pissed me off so much!! And the kids was incredible, very much worth the wait!! hahha
Combined with Mary sending Kate out of the room that comment really gave across the idea that Mary and Edwina are a unit and Kate does not really fit with them, and the impression I got with both Mary and Edwina's actions/words was that when push comes to shove they are the family and Kate isn't part of it. Also, if you recall in episode 1 Edwina makes a comment about people questioning how Edwina and Kate are related, and Kate replies by saying they are sisters, but with later words and actions I don't think Edwina truly sees Kate as a sister as much as Kate sees Edwina as one. The scene in the cupboard really showed how alone Kate is/feels in the world.
Kate warned Edwina time and time again that Anthony is all about duty and not love. She tells Anthony not to toy with her sister's emotions. And it's always Anthony
approaching her, she's not the one giving the intense speeches and sniffing after him. She tries to bring up their near kiss only for Anthony to brush it off as nothing. She tried to tell Edwina about her feelings in ep 4 and ep 5 and got interrupted first by Clownthony's proposal and then by Edwina blurting out that she loves Anthony. After that, she resigns herself to making her sister happy (again) and begs Anthony not to break the engagement. Even at the altar, it's Anthony trying to catch her eye while she tries her best to keep it together. I get that Edwina's heartbroken (partly due to her own naivete and her own self-centered behavior) but she was very cruel to Kate. Calling Kate her "half" sister is where she lost me. And
calling herself more kind hearted than Kate loool. Behaving like a brat when she doesn't get what she wants when her sister was going to give up the love of her life to make her happy. Also, it's not like Edwina was in love with Anthony. She knows nothing about him and her response to his proposal is "I shall be your Viscountess!" Really now.Kate literally had to take up the role as mother
and put her entire life (love life included) to the side for Edwina. Like damn, did Lady Mary or Edwina even think to ask Kate how she felt? Did Lady Mary even think to apologize for putting Kate in a position where she had to be the caretaker for them both as a child? And now that she found love and is still trying to put her feelings to the back burner to benefit Edwina and her family, they still blame her. It's messed up that she kept her love for Anthony to herself but Kate just didn't see romance as something she could have because of her duty to her family and that's just sad.….

Edwina is selfish during the entire show, she didn’t care about Kate, she didn’t care about Anthony either (she can’t understand his personality and even Daphne notices it). Also notice how Kate TRIED to tell Edwina about her feelings in ep 4 and 5, I’m sorry but you can’t just say that she is the one at fault. Lady Mary and Edwina only care about Edwin’s life, it’s upsetting. Everyone in the show notice their love (Danbury, Benedict, Daphne, Violet), it proves that they didn’t care about Kate. It was sad that while people in Anthony's life (mom and Daphne) were encouraging him to follow his heart, the people in Kate's life - esp her mom and lady Danbury either ignored her feelings or straight out encouraged her to ignore them. It was real sweet that Anthony didn't agree when Kate said "It doesn't matter what I want" during their first dance... Made the happily ever after so much more beautiful.
You are so right about Edwina. She is also responsible all the time screaming she want to be vicountess while kate told her from the begining to not to believe Anthony and she ignored her but later said she did not want any of this 🤔

I am loving these videos. Your commentary on Edwina's whole "I can't marry you because you can not give me what I want" thing when both Kate and Anthony told her SINCE THE VERY BEGINNING that he didn't want to marry for love, got me giggling. Spot on.
Kate shouldn't have begged Anthony to marry Ed. He was VERY heartbroken there...and went into "let's make a bigger mess and burn everything down" mood. Edwina had a childish crush; Kate...No need to let that rule your life and Anthony's.(she got over her crush in no more than 24 hours) It was too much. And Anthony going after her in the closet and saying go get Edwina to marry me...😮 "Why do you hide in a closet when Edwina is ruining her life"...like give the girl a 2min break from being Edwina's servant. She had no one in the universe caring a rat ass about HER at that moment.

during the closet scene...my take was that anthony felt kate wanted him to marry edwina. she even beg him, telling him that the feeling that she felt was just passion that can merely passed. so anthony was on a mission to fulfill his duty and kate's wish. he told daphne that kate had made a plan that did not include him. 😭😭
but when he heard kate said 'i have ruin her life'. u can see he stepped up closer to kate with a concern look. like he was saying no..its not ur fault...or maybe are u okay. at the very least, i was glad that at that moment, when kate was totally alone crying in the closet and no one care about her...anthony was grabbing her, wanted to tell her that she is precious to him...she deserved love and sooooo much more,

I like that Daphne tried to talk some sense to Anthony, but one of her sentences pissed me of.
She said that when their father died, Anthony didn't cry once.
First of all, Anthony watched his father pass away in a matter of seconds. Which is shocking and traumatic !
Then, he didn't have time to process what happened that he was immediately thrown into the role of the head of the family with all the responsabilities that come with the title !
And he knew he had to be strong in order to keep his family from falling apart. So he did !
He did not have time to grieve !!!!
(I experienced a similar situation when my stepfather died all of sudden a few years ago. So I understand.)
Instead of accusing him of not having cried, Daphne could at least recognize that Anthony did his best considering their situation. And then tell him that now he can allow himself to seek happiness only him.
I agree about that line. I think that line from Daphne, and Benedict & Colin's mocking of Anthony about his duty, really show that his siblings didn't understand how much he was impacted by the death of his father. Not even Anthony's own mother recognised how badly it all impacted him. In some ways, despite a large and loving family, Anthony was very much alone.
Also the line that his family pitied him was also cruel. This man took care of everything (what at the age of 18 or 19) for his family because his mother totally checked out when the father died, leaving him to become their father. This man was binge drinking the night before his wedding, and instead of his brothers asking if he was okay they kept on teasing him…. So very sad. Glad he found his soul mate in Kate, because her family treated her the same way, the half sister bit made me lose any empathy I felt for Edwina, and when Mary banished her from the room when Edwina bolted from the altar ,,, talk about treating her there like a step daughter. Looking forward to seeing more of Kate and Anthony in season 3. 💕. Sorry for the rant😀
I love your reactions! They’re so funny but also so on point! I felt so bad for Kate this episode. She was going to let her sister marry the love of her life then go back to India to live a lonely life without family or love. So Edwina can take several seats with the half-sister line.
I dunno I feel like we also need to look 👀 at it from Edwinas point of view. She’s only a teenager, they are way older and should have a bit of maturity. Kate has basically lied to her this whole time and she finds out AT THE ALTER what’s really going on. Don’t tell me most people wouldn’t have an absolute conniption because I know if my sister did that to me, I wouldn’t just smile and say “go ahead , you can have him girl” . I love Anthony and Kate but I think people have the blinders on and are hating on Edwina for her very valid reactions 😅

Although after Edwina told Kate in ep 4 that she wanted to marry Anthony because of the life he could afford her I did wonder if she secretly knew about the Sheffield’s conditions but the fact that she doesn’t makes her seem as calculating about finding a spouse as Anthony is rather than an idealistic teenager with hearts in her eyes.

The only thing I will support Edwina on is the fact that Anthony promised her that he would be a man of honor and duty and what he was doing with Kate, literally having and emotional affair with her sister, isn’t exactly honorable. Furthermore, that man said he was not a man of passion so she took him at his word. What Anthony didn’t say was I’m not a man of passion specifically with you but I’m exchanging lovers looks with your big sis. Edwina was set up to fail. She didn’t even know to see the warning signs. Anthony wasn’t completely honest about his character, but partially honest. So yea, she has a right to be angry about that. And I understand Edwina being angry that Kate didn’t tell her. Edwina is mostly upset about looking like a fool. But she didn’t need to get that mean.
Well if you watch that episode…..neither Kate or Anthony planned for that to happen. That kiss literally happened after the wedding, even though he and Edwina didn’t even get married. Every time Kate and Anthony have almost done something physical, they’ve been interrupted or one of them stops.

I mean, Of course I understand she is young and expected feelings from the vicount to grow while he was courting her. He told her he was looking for an amiable partner and she knew from her sister that he was not interested in a match of love but she still developed feelings and hoped hers were mirrored by him. I get it. But I still think Edwina was not blaming herself enough while bursting out on everybody else who cared for her. Like, Sweetie, you're responsible for your feelings, do not get confused here. and her continuous accusing of Kate is just mean and immature. Yeah, same. I was actually looking forward to this moment because I thought it was going to be a moment of relationship growth for Edwina and Kate. Kate was going to realize what she thought would be the best for her sister was the total opposite, and Edwina was going to realize she'd failed her sister and had been too focused on herself. But no. She just deflected all blame and showed zero introspection. It was a huge let down. Overall I do think the biggest weakness of S2 is the Sharma family. They really messed up the dynamics between Mary and the sisters...
Let's remember Edwina is only 18 yrs old she may be a little immature and naive as it seems Kate really shielded her.
AGREED.... So glad to know i'm not the only one who loathes how petty, cruel, whiny, vindictive Edwina acted... she wants to be treated like a woman but acts like a child. Missed opportunity from the writers to have her reflect on her OWN agency and responsibility for her OWN actions in her life... One of Edwina's many clues her upcoming marriage was not real, both of them kept using their formal names and no scene of Anthony getting slightly intimate with Edwina. I loved episodes 7 & 8!!!! Also, Can't wait for Season 3!!!
So, to me, all of Anthony's actions were logical... in that they made logical sense if one was operating under the insane parameters he was LOL. But, to answer your question about why he proposed to Edwina in the first place, it's simple: He was afraid of falling in love with Kate. After catching him nearly kissing Kate, Daphne convinced him that his confused feelings about Kate were the beginnings of love, so he panicked (as love was to be avoided in his eyes) and proposed to Edwina at the end of Episode 4. I suppose he thought that his feelings for Kate would dwindle, but by the time that ill-fate dinner comes around, it became clear to him the his feelings had not dwindled. This is evidenced by the fact that, when Violet confronted him about his happiness and the example he was setting for his siblings, he did not insist on dearly loving Edwina. Instead, he said that he could not dishonor Edwina by ending the engagement now. If that was not enough, after the Sheffields' deal with Kate was revealed, Anthony jumped at the chance for Violet and Lady Danbury to use it as an excuse to end the engagement without dishonoring either party.
The way I see it, Anthony knew he was falling in love with Kate by the end of Episode 4, which lead to his proposal to Edwina. Then, he knew he was irrevocably in love with Kate by the end of Episode 5, leading to his impassioned monologue and his intention to the end the engagement (although Kate successfully reversed that decision).
Exactly my view on Anthony's actions. The fight or flight instinct kicked in after his conversation with Daphne and Anthony chose flight rather than fight. He is a complex character that could have been made to come across a little sleazy and self absorbed, but Jonathan Bailey played him so well and really showing his complex emotions and struggle within himself.
In the book, Kate and Anthony have to get married because they are caught in a "compromising position" after the 🐝 situation. Edwina is excited for her (and not at all in "love" with Anthony or even engaged to him). The book is a lot different.
Yes, I so hated this change because it's stupid, if they were so eager for a damn love triangle they could've brought back the opera singer, it would have been way more natural because this whole Edwina has a crush makes no sense , also I really miss her being supportive of Kate and being smart lol in the book she's smart and kind of cheeky, here she's boring and naive to the extreme

I would hate so much for Kate and Anthony to have a forced marriage. It’s MUCH more satisfying for me that they went through all this emotional torture and grew as people and each chose to be married to one another.

landy Danbury said earlier in the series that kate shouldn't be content with being alone and now she's advising her that her independence is more important than anything else hahahah both things are true but it made no sense both coming from her
It was more like lady D wanted Kate out of the picture than actually caring about Kate.
Lady D kept chastising Kate every scene they had together...kate herself was self flagging all the time. Marry throw her out in her worst moment for something that was her own fault for never considering Kate; but no one ever addresses Edwina'a faults she is always referred to as kind and perfect ...she forced Kate to spend time with Anthony when Kate didn't want to because it served her own benefit. I think that's a big narration failure.

I honestly don't think any of the three are without blame in this mess. As much as Anthony and Kate may have been taken with each other since their first meeting, that's all they believed it was. Simple admiration, and that admiration was tarnished for Kate once she overhead him in the garden. From then on, Anthony decided he would marry Edwina and Kate did everything she could to protect her sister from a loveless marriage. Problem was in order to achieve his goal, Anthony had to get closer to Kate and Edwina also pushed Kate to Anthony at every chance she got. They didn't choose to fall in love, it just happened. And once they realized what that feeling was, his courtship with Edwina was pretty much a sealed deal, to the point he knew it would hurt the Sharmas much more if he backed out, and to marry HER sister of all things. He even considered calling the wedding off, until Edwina told Kate she loved Anthony, which drove Kate to beg him to marry her. Yes, they should've told Edwina the truth, but these two characters are primarily about selflessness and putting their families' needs above their desires. Edwina also chose to take a risk when she insisted Anthony was the only one for her. Kate told her from the get go she overhead him saying he wouldn't marry for love, Anthony was very clear to Edwina about what he expected from their marriage and why he was courting her, and yet she insisted on marrying him, knowing fully well she could develop feelings for a husband that would never care for her in the same way. I don't think losing Anthony hurt as much as the betrayal because I don't believe Edwina ever truly loved Anthony. She didn't knew him at all for that to be true. But I think she did developed feelings for him despite all the warnings and foolishly led herself to believe he could reciprocate those feelings some day. Which is why althought I understand where she was coming from, it annoys me how she put the blame entirely on Anthony and Kate. She has her own share of fault in the situation too

I've watched so many Bridgerton reactions and you are the first to call out Edwina on what she said in this episode, and it was refreshing to see. She calls it betrayal, but it's really betrayal only in that Kate hid her feelings from her. I thought she was too harsh on Kate here. Edwina almost held her breath saying she wanted Anthony, what was Kate to do? Break her sister's heart? Also, Anthony never claimed to be in love with her, he stated clearly he could never give it to her, and Kate warned her of the same thing from the start. It was why she was opposed to Anthony for Edwina in the first place! Where are these expectations of true love coming from then? I don't dislike Edwina but I think the writing for her has been really choppy and confusing to say the least!

People say that because she is 18 that she could not have noticed the way Kanthony were acting around eachother. I call b.s. on that. When I was 9, I asked my sister if her best guy friend was gay, because I had a suspicion, and she got mad at me for making assumptions. Ten years later and he is openly gay and my sister was shocked when he came out. There were many other things I picked up on and predicted when I was way younger than 18. If you can't pick up on those things at 18, you are either a moron, delusional, or both. I would say Edwina is more delusional than a moron, she clearly thought some interactions were odd based on her facial expressions, but she's like "nah they must really hate eachother."

Missed opportunity from the writers to have her reflect on her OWN agency and responsibility for her OWN actions in her life. I think the reasons why I’m still on Edwina’s side and okay with how she lashed out are 1) this JUST happened like 10 mins ago - the most generous person in the world would take more than 10 mins to get over this betrayal. 2) Edwina straight up DOES NOT KNOW what happened between the two of them. We can see that K&A haven’t been having an affair, or making out constantly (even though they should) - but SHE doesn’t know that, and I’m sure in this moment of great pain and embarrassment, she’s imagining the worst. 3) Somehow I really don’t think she understood that Anthony doesn’t love her? Bless her, but she seems a bit dense and naive, and seemed to think him pursuing her HARD and proposing to her = love. Even Mary thought he loved her.
Also, every time Kate said she wanted to talk to her, Edwina blew her off 🤷🏻♀️

Anthony was completely honest with Edwina, but I think I’m het mind he’d grow to love her with time, but she was betrayed to find out that he’d already had feelings for her sister. She was definitely extra harsh with Kate but at that point she felt everything Kate had raised her for had been a lie

Edwina pissed me right the fact off. Edwina and Kate's relationship mirrors my sister and I almost to the tea. As an older sister, I understand what Edwina was trying to do. When we lost our mum and were orphaned, she effectively turned into my child and I did so much for her to make sure she was okay, completely put myself on the back burner, only for her to be completely selfish, it is aggravating. Though I do get what Edwina says about Kate putting her desires onto her but she gave her qualities that she needs to thrive in their society so who really got the better deal. It is completely unfair how she puts the majority of the blame on Kate when Anthony was an equal participant in their betrayal.
They are at the race Anthony takes Katei drink Edwina notices but doesn't care; clicked her glass with Anthony...to hell with my sister who came as a third wheel here and basically faced ridiculous of the town for my sake. Then Kate finds out Anthony planted Dorset and us upset Edwina is flattered and doesn't care that someone has played her sister...

To be fair to Edwina (ugh I don’t want to be but I will lol) when she first yells at Kate she doesn’t know just how far she and Antony have gone. Home girl just knows there’s ✨~tension~✨ for all she knows they’ve been having an affair and making fun of her the whole time. Or it’s another _plot_ because, let’s be real, Kate and Antony are both lil’schemers (Kate’s plot with the Sheffields and Antony’s faux poetry and subterfuge at the horse race) and while WE love them for it and know the truth, Eddie baby doesn’t. Her hurt and angry little brain is probably inventing the worst scenarios in those couple of hours after the botched wedding, and honestly? Who wouldn’t be! I agree she was naïve and was overly harsh but girl was trained her whole life for this day for her to realize it’s All BS!
I really hope we see her grow a deeper personality in the next season (and become bffs with El and Pen?)

Just adding to the Edwina comments, totally agree with the majority about Edwina, going into the engagement/marriage with her eyes open after disclosures from Anthony and Kate that it would not be a love match. But her character is such,that her naivety and innocence believes she can change him and his feelings when they are married when love matches are rare during this era. She as much said this/implied it to Daphne during their card game in episode 4. Edwina has such tunnel vision when it comes to her "feelings" about Anthony that I can understand why she is "blind" to anything going on between Kanthony. I thought the actress who played Edwina did an excellent job with her character. Loved her for standing up for herself and then wanted to slap her for totally normal reactions about her sister and Anthony. Anthony's comments..."I understand you..." Girlfriend, really woke up and smelled the coffee and came to the realisation she deserves someone who can look at her like Anthony does with Kate. Ahhh don't we all though folks. Chemistry, chemistry, chemistry! Love it. Loved watching this season over and over and over.and ... oh I have lost count.
Kate and Anthony continue to smolder and infuriate (in such a good way) while Edwina finally clues in and Eloise continues to be annoying. All is well.

she was angry with kate for not being truthful with her. if u saw her confrontation with kate after she met anthony.
1st edwina asked anthony what role will kate play after their marriage and anthony told her that kate will not be in the picture anymore. She will go back to india as she wishes.
when edwina talked with kate, kate told edwina that she will do everything in her power to ensure edwina's happiness and edwina replied..including going back to india? the choice that edwina made was between her sister or anthony.
if she married anthony..she will never see her sister again.
that y she was soooo angry with kate.
