I still get a kick out of the fact that the Kuratas is essentially a Prototype Heavy Gear... I mean we literally just need to refine the Kuratas to be more mobile and have walking Mobility to have a basic Heavy Gear. Especially since they both were inspired by VOTOMs. Oddly Heavy Gears are compared to IFVs but they are closer to Attack Helicopters. Which really looking at Mecha as Walking Aircraft is the more accurate say of their usage over ground vehicles. Be mobile & avoid the hit instead of relying on armor kind of thing. Especially in Urban environments where their form factor can easily shine.
@@WhatGameNow There is an 8 meter walking mecha in Japan that can be rented for parties and the like. It is just rudimentary given the limited resources for development. Oddly Mecha are more like aircraft, especially helicopters, than ground vehicles. There are a lot more hurdles to making them effective than a Car or Tank. Really you can view a Walking Dragline & similar vehicles as like the Wright/Kittyhawk Flyer & the Kuratas and current prototypes as Pre-WWI planes. Even some of the detractors' remarks are similar if not identical between the two. Oddly once we get past the basics & get them figured out then they actually become a lot easier to replicate. Even Heavy Gear references this fact with the Southern Jager being developed in a fraction of the time it took for the Northern Hunter to be completed thanks to being able to look at the Hunter's design. That combined with proliferation & mass production driving the costs down would change things. Especially if the parts are fairly interchangeable between designs. For example the Hunter & Jaguar could share a large number of components just the numbers & tuning might be different.
@@WhatGameNow Oddly enough Gundam's AMBAC system is based on real physics despite people not understanding it. A Heavy Gear could use the same concept to allow it to use its SMS in the same way a Knightmare Frame from Code Geass uses its Landspinners or the same way a Skater moves on their skates. & jn Space this makes movements very similar to Swimming only with thrusters instead of leg kicking. Almost like if someone had Sea scooters strapped to their back & legs.
I admire your passion for the subject , but I must admit that although I get overall what you are saying, the specifics are interesting yet a little out of my wheelhouse. It does make me curious to learn more so thank you for the info! -David
@@WhatGameNow I have spent a lot of time on it. The sad part is it simply needs some basic logic to figure out yet people can't seem to do the basic math. An Animalistic form, humanoid or otherwise, allows the manipulation of the center of gravity via inertia. We do this every time we take a step. (Seriously pay attention to how your hips & shoulders move in relation to each other the way they move puts the center of gravity centered but slightly forward of its resting position.) This manipulation of the center of gravity allows for a variety of maneuvers nearly impossible for a normal vehicle. The main issue is figuring out how to properly construct the machine to allow & withstand those maneuvers. Then refining it via materials & tweaked design to be robust enough for combat. I would point to Gen:LOCK's Holons as a way to illustrate that. The internal skeleton & frame is capable of moving & withstanding basic maneuvers & light damage akin to a human body while the armor added on makes it more capable of combat like armor & gear does for a human. The main issue is crossing these hurdles of development. Oddly enough most of these issues are also the same issues we have with small robots & advanced prosthetics and can be solved simultaneously with the development of those items. And we are closer than people think. Hyundai I believe has a exoskeleton that makes the Alien Powerloader look primitive, plus there have been a few people using animatronic technology to make mech suits. We have ones that mimic Landmates from Appleseed, T.A.G.s for the Infinity players who don't know the original inspiration for them, and the AMP Suits from Avatar. Heck, Kuratas itself could be easily converted into a Mobile Worker from Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. Hmm... Maybe I should make a video on this topic & share it... Especially would love to talk to people interested in the discussion as well.
I did my first search for HG content in probably two years and was surprised to see some new videos! I'll be listening in to the series so far. Will you be continuing it beyond the background intro videos to other things like battle reports?
@@WhatGameNow Looking forward to it. I'm an old time player who started in 1st edition RPG with Rafm minis that finally gave up about 5 years ago. I still have thousands of points of painted minis (in the old blitz scale) and was curious about the new rules.
The demo game should be finished with editing soon and we used the new 3.0 beta rules. If you have a forums account you can gain access to them in Word format.
Best line: "You could play this game without even touching a giant robot."
It is a true statement, but touching giant robots is half the fun!
Looking forward to your upcoming HGB content.
We look forward to making it for everyone!

Well it will be no surprise when it does happen, that the Japanese will be the ones to do it!

We have a demo game that is being edited now and will have more battle reports, model reviews, assembly, painting and more!
