This video is adorable in many ways. Always fun seeing Anna, Andrea and Alex together. Had me asking myself, how is Anna ahead on time? Then remembered she's playing against Andrea who can burn up time just as well.
American girls are known to make up the most outrageous nonsense, without shame, and then claim sarcasm when challenged. Ignoring it was the better move.
andrea's meaning of life answer is essentially existential nihilism. what people popularly think of nihilism (nothing has value so fuck it) is a trap that nietzsche warned people not to fall into. you are supposed to, once you accept there is no inherent value in anything, define value in the world for yourself. so acknowledging there is no meaning and rebelling against that by creating meaning in the little things she finds joy in is exactly what a nihilist is supposed to do. nihilism is freeing yourself from having meaning forced upon you and creating your own meaning.
Rather than go through those mental gymnastics, just accept that you were born a sinner and every good thing you do is a small act of redemption for your soul.
Andrea's meaning of life answer is much closer to Camus' existentialism. Rebelling against meaningless by finding happiness anyway. Imagining Sisyphus happy.
yea i don't understand why folks find existential nihilism "sad" or "unnecessary"... how can you have real agency (aka free will) if you don't exercise it right from fundamentals? if your foundational beliefs and definitions are just borrowed from elsewhere with little introspection or inquiry... are you even an individual person? imo, all that teenage angst is supposed to crystalise into an adulthood where a strong sense of personhood is formed. that process requires "trying out" various definitions for the meaning of life, see which one feels good, deconstruct it a little, make a buncha mistakes etc. at some point, the teenager realises their own true values and principles, having taken some meaning from elsewhere and discarded the others that did not work. the REAL sadness... is that the false promises of captitalism: financial "freedom", consumer culture, FOMO, while saddled with long work hours in mindless jobs, rent, debt, etc... all takes away time from people, so they can't even have the freedom to think for themselves what life means.
Wait this is SUCH a good concept. And there's so many ways to change it up a little! Maybe you can't hit the timer until you've finished answering the question so it's always your time, or you could ask questions with a definite answer and they can't hit the timer until they get it right, all sorts of things!
A man finds himself, to his great astonishment, suddenly existing, after thousands and thousands of years of non-existence: he lives for a little while; and then, again, comes an equally long period when he must exist no more. The heart rebels against this
I first thought that it was Anna reflecting from the picture's surface, and when the reflection froze while she was moving, I was quite puzzled until I realized that it must have been Alex instead.
I enjoyed it. But I would suggest also trying the questions without the chess game. I know it's all about the Chess, but... Once in awhile with this the questions on their own would be better. IMO
2:00 Quite honestly, both of you could start your own talk show and play chess at the same time, although you don't need to have the timer on. Seriously, you can make a big hit on TV. Allie would be a must on the show. People are starving for the younger generations viewpoint....😊
I just used the cow opening for the first time today and won. And when I got excited about using it everyone looked at me like i was absolutely insane 😅
I used an example of Dina's poise in a Dharma discussion yesterday...she has to deal with a lot of confusion men have when they play her...what are they expecting? So forth...
If you are struggling with nihilism, the thesis “Maps of meanings” makes a brilliant argument for meaning taking into account science, neurochemistry, philosophy, theology, history and psychology. The series is free on youtube, the book is a tough read but high value. And then, the practical applications of those ideas are in the books “12 rules for life” and “Beyond Order” by the same author. Changed my life.
Recent conversation: Other person: You're a nihilist? Me: Yes OP: Isn't that depressing? Me: Not if you sprinkle a little hedonism in the mix. Life itself has no meaning. The happiness, joy, and pleasure we derive and create in our lives gives us meaning. Earth could cease to exist at any moment; enjoy the time you have.
@ people experience positive emotion when they are moving towards a goal, the higher the goal, the more positive emotion they feel when they move towards it. Hedonism disrupts the pain and reward system in a way in which it gets to the point people repeat the behavior to stop feeling pain, not for the initial pleasure anymore but for the relieve of the constant pain. Hedonism is not a good long term strategy, and is not solid enough to sustain you through tragedy and suffering. It also run the risk of instrumentalizing people, including yourself and it pathologize society even more.
It is funny how people often assume that catering etc will be taken care of on this desert island. :D Although a satellite phone would be a good thing to bring. Or a satellite SOS beacon.
Popular advice I disagree with. That you can be anything you want to be.. Meaning or purpose in life. Only if you think you're a creature. If you're a being you don't need to follow that idea of purpose.
Crazy .. i understand what u mean… BUT - the construct/concept of society doesn’t allow us to just be beings unfortunately. So at the end of the day - gotta find a purpose nd can’t just ‘be’ I also answered that when ppl say u can be whatever u wanna be in the popular advice question 😭🤣
Me before the video: Hey, a nice little match between my favorite chess players, this will be fun! Me during the match: 🤔💭 ... well, until that part 7:38
When we say don't cry it's because we want you to be happy and we can't stand it if you're really sad ❤ I cry when you win I remember you hitting your peak . I cry when you lose and I play the song. You been through a rough patch to say the least. I saw it, but you handled yourself so gracefully. The things you said, " you have to laugh about it" I wish if I was a streamer I could put just that part out. Because it's true. So inspirational. I tell you this to make you feel better in case there's any more left. " Hey at least you beat that kid 😂 and he's a monster 😂they should call him baby shark cause he's just dead eyed and he moves so fast 😂 and the way he moves his pieces 🤣 it's like a robot 🦾 he is terrifying😂 he's gonna definitely be GM someday. But somehow you lucked out 🤣 " I'm just kidding you know that. I know you hate long letters and I'm sorry for that. Just wanted to make you laugh and good luck in the tournament 🏆🍀🤞❤️

Really lovely when Anna says spanish Words like "Madrid" or "paella 🥘"
7:13 Andrea missed a nice tactic Bxe4, Nxe4, Qd5+ fork

The casualness in which she said she peed her pants two wks ago was astounding. (and the lack of reaction to it too - wow, Anna, not shocked by much?)

The secret to happiness is being bitten by a radioactive Anna
Andrea is always honest and that actually means she respects the audience
I love ppl like her for life. I don't want anyone else

@@hesjustthisguyyaknow anyway it's a very sad state of mind, very contradictory and very unnecessary.

9:49 Anna cold blooded :D also Andrea is such a sweetheart and Alex, the alien abduction question sent me laughing :D:D very clever
Alex sabotaged Andrea's win with the England's capital question At this time she was still winning - big. Bad Alex.
Andrea says meaning of life to find fullfillment. Every guys rolling their eyes. Things people say under pressure.
2:58 yo i did not expect andrea to be actually versed in philosophical nihilism wtf?
I really like that! They should make more videos like that, maybe cooking a Wellington or crème brûlée while playing chess.
Watch out Anna, look out the window, the fire is coming!
Great video wish it was longer. Great
How fun! I hope they did a rematch!

Rebel against the meaninglessness of life? That’s Camus in a nutshell.
Exactly. I also commented that it sounds like Kierkegaard's and Camus' absurdism.

What was your favorite politician?
5:45 I don't like this answer
Why?
Its okay to believe there is clear evidence that we and our universe did not happen by accident.
It's absolutely reasonable. We live in a world with causality, form and ideas, not chaos and formless blobs.
I don't think you know what the word evidence means.
Yeah it's ok to have wrong opinions
