We're looking at a 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible in Ermine White Paint with a 348 Tri-Power (3 2 barrel carburetors) engine.
Today I'm speaking with Brian Grams, Director of the Volo Auto Museum.

Paid $2,700 for my 6 month old 1960 Impala Convertible all Black in and out. 348 engine with 3 2' barrels, Duntov Cam, Synchromesh transmission with 4 on the floor, hi speed lifters. and other things I have probably forgot. The above Chevy that Brian is selling is really cool. When he started that engine I just sat here with my headphones and so enjoyed that engine music. Really took me back to when we were all young and handsome. If you want a really neat car to drive get Brian's Chevy and have some fun.

That period of American cars - especially '57 to '61- is a phenomenon of history. These cars looked like they were doing doing fifty mile an hour when they were parked. True works of art, which was clearly inspired by the new rocket age, breaking of the sound barrier and so forth.
My family had one of these Chevvies back in 1960, in Sydney. The Australian imports were the Canadian versions - I believe. They made the right hand drives for the British countries and south east Asia. Note the dashboard is designed for an easy switchover. The standard '60 Chev in Australia was the 4 door Belair sedan with the 283CID donk...er, engine. The Impalas were expensive.

My brother and I had one, except we had the "327" engine, but that car would still go! Go! GO!!! It was beautiful car, and great to ride in, and find the girls who wanted to ride along with us. It's my understanding that my niece was conceived in the back seat!

The 327 didn't come until 1962

The best thing you can do is put an alternator on these old generator cars. 1963 was the first year chevy put alternators on chevys also pcv valves instead of road tube ventilation. It is interesting to think back when all these improvements were first installed the old timers had a fit. I am so old I remember when detergent motor oil came out they raised Cain about that too claiming it would ruin your engine. Saying that an amount of oil would be displaced by chemicals. I am glad I still know what oil is.

That's the top dog Impala for 1960...a convertible 348 tri-power auto. That's every major option. There is some inconsistencies with the restoration, most notably the firewall would be body colored, not black. But a very rare car, there was probably only a few hundred made with all these options.

The simplified 1960 front grille looked much cleaner without the Ugly Betty eyebrows adorning the 1959 grille.
My grandfather had a 4-dr hardtop (one carb was enough). Nobody left the ignition switch in the lock position back then...

i dont think so, the '59 front and also the tail lights looked much more awesome
@@JxT1957 I agree. You see a 59 in your rear view mirror with that beautifully menacing looking grille, you almost feel like pulling over to the side of the road from both intimidation and admiration just to watch that aggressive looking dinosaur cruise on by in all it's vintage glory.
I had one with the 348 trip power only in black with white top. Sold it in 1966 for 3000 dollars to make a down payment on my first house. Would love to have it back. Very pricey now.

Beautiful ! Too bad it has a slushbox .4 on the floor was available in 1959. The three on the tree was known for shifting linkage that failed under racing conditions

How come the exhaust pipe seems to be detached from the car at about 4:30? Does anybody know? It seems to be lying on the ground.

Hmmm, we'll have to look into that.
Appraised value 65K? Ya, right! If it was in concourse condition, it would only be valued at around 30K. This car is in "good" condition and worth around 20K.
Yeah the '60 Impalas are going up but still don't bring the money the '59's bring.
I had a '60 Impala Conv. just like this one same color with the 348 nice car in 2014, I sold
it on ebay for $41,600 in 2015 which is an average price.
From my personal experience Wendell, I'd add about $5-10K to your estimates but with this economy, everything is negotiable. Noticing some minor issues in this one. $35K would be a fair price to me.

My dad had a blue '60 Impala hardtop but he had to get rid of it because some woman ran into it damaging it. Sad.

This car is a rough used roach The hood is nosed, The Chevrolet script is missing and the hood filled. The checkered flags on the side are faded and the paint is missing. It is missing the original air cleaner, This car never had an alternator or a cheap overflow bottle. The low buck gages under the dash are a clue. If the car was a spot on it would not have cheap hang on gages. The rear speaker grill is faded and the paint chipped. At best it's a "Dressed up dead man" I can be critical I owned one and $ 54,000.00 Just walk away my friends.
From the looks of it, it must have rear ended a dump truck at about 70 mph. "Bondo Special"
When they started it up, see the exhaust soot on the bottom of the left rear quarter panel. Paint chipped in the door jam, missing air cleaner and more. I love the car but it needs some work to get it minted out. It seems like every close up just showed how dirty or worn it is. Shame. That Autozone three gauge panel under the dash is blasphemous!
That's alot of damn loot. Idk if it is worth that much scratch!? It has issues.

I have to say it’s decent but not up to the quality I have come to expect from Volo. The hood has need “nosed”, the air cleaners are incorrect and several flaws were apparent. I guess a lot of people wouldn’t notice or care. At the least, they should pull off those fender skirts that don’t belong.

Those door panels are not correct. If you think those look like a "parade", you should see what the original looks like. Don't know why they skimped on the door panels.
