I was able to finally drive by finding a local doctor who did Bioptics. Unfortunately, they only carried 1 type and style, an extremely heavy pair of glasses. Wish it was easier to find other doctors who stocked other options for these types of lenses...

It is difficult to locate a low vision doctor. Some doctors see low vision patients as a part of their regular practice, taking a short time with each patient and offering a limited variety of low vision devices. What I'd recommend for anyone seeking help for their low vision is that they Google Low Vision Doctors and then call those who you find. Ask to speak to the doctor. Be prepared with some specific questions and be sure to tell them exactly the activities that are important to you. In your case that was driving. Ask how much time they set aside for a low vision evaluation. It should be at least an hour with the doctor. In my practice I see only low vision patients and I schedule an hour and 15 minutes for the evaluation. If you are not comfortable with the answers you get from the doctor or they seem rushed call someone else. Another resource is IALVS.com. The International Academy of Low Vision Specialists is an organization of low vision optometrists who are dedicated to helping people with impaired vision remain active and independent.
