I got one for free from a friend. Just needed some suspension work, carb work, and crank seals replaced. Working on getting it back together currently.
Sweet man I have a 87 exciter just gotta watch out for problems we’ve had to replace the secondary because they stretch out easy and has to replace water pump because it’s snapped itself but I press that throttle and front end lifts right up and I’ve had it up to 75 mph not even gunning it, all I have to say man is there great machines. Mines bored over because it’s blown before but it still runs and drives great, it’s also taken on a stop sign at 30mph
Good thing yr cleaning yr fuel system you would have burnt a hole in yr piston, i would throw a new needle & seat in those carbs, thats obviously why it was leaking .Put 3/4 a can of Seafoam in it 👍 its probably runnin a little rich rite there because it's warm out ...i would have turned that thing upside down to drain the gas, and probably sprayed it out with the garden hose while its turned over 👍, let it drain as good as possible, put a little ISO HEET in there, or Rubbing Alcohol in it, that would dry it out good.... a very good mechanic told me the best thing to use to not only dry moisture from yr fuel, but also an excellent carb or injector cleaner is Rubbing Alcolhol, and it's cheaper than IsoHeet, (ISOheet) (ISOpropyl) Rubbing Alcohol, same stuff but cheaper ....
I used to have a 84 Phazer and when ever someone else's sled broke down I had to tow it and give them a piggy back ride at the same time all the other guys would laugh saying your going to need a new drive belt by the time you're done tonight
For anybody who doesn't know anything about snowmobiles it's just a small engine they're not hard to work on the problem with old snowmobiles and why a lot of people abandon them is the hafax and the track condition it's the most expensive parts on a sled and once they're shot most of the time they're not worth fixing
A testament to Yamaha Quality
Me and my dad just bought the same sled for $300. It was in near PERFECT condition and well kept, can’t wait to take it out this winter!
Sweet project, nice work! I love it when a plan comes together!
Them old things were absolute beasts

Hyfax is less than 40$ most of the time.
