People who veer off course most often times have self destruct tendencies, drug abuse, depression, etc.. Some people cope with this better than others. It has much to do with how disciplined you are in taking corrective action. Often times you hear celebrity stories where the person admits that if it weren't for their children (or another significant other), they would have committed suicide long ago. George was probably in the worst situation to be in when you take into account his past.

The little known fact is that as recent as the 1800s the life expectancy for the average man was zilch, about 35. The upper classes fared better, getting to 40 or 45 on average. George Michael lived a lifestyle that is synonymous with drug abuse, masochism, alcohol, and general excess. I doubt he looked after himself well at all. Too much money means easy access to too many crutches, conveniences, temptations, and outright traps. Bet his father died young too, so add in the genetic factor.
