    Thanks Mr. Mighty Tiger Finally! Someone has shown an easy way to wire the alternator!! Thanks for the link to the rectifier!! The second I saw the schematic on it, it finally came into focus in my mind. :)

    @7:05 How is it possible that the motor stalled even though there is no load (0 Amps) connected to the rectifier? According to the motor specs you have up to 1kW but at the output your power is calculated by 70V * 0A = 0W. Still scratching my head about it.

    You have shown that removing the voltage regulator allows you to measure the open circuit voltage with no load, ie no current, no power. As soon as you load the alternator the voltage will drop. This is an old fashioned mechanical inverter. With an efficiency of maybe 70% . An electronic inverter can do exactly the same thing, but at more like 95% efficiency.

      This car alternator conversation was meant for a different purpose. The converted alternator will soon be used for different projects... example welding, off grid battery bank charging and so on...

    Love your vids, very detailed and even greater: you provide the parts used!! keep up the great work!! if you want to try a cool project, buy a Ryobi or Ego battery power station generator and hook up these to recharge them and check out the sustainability you will get with them to power your house, this is the project im working on now. im trying to create pass-through charging that is self sustaining, even if i remove one battery to swap it out. Enjoy!!

    This is actually quite interesting, this would mean that you could use a USD 10 solar charge controller to charge your house lithium or deep cycle battery pack without needing an expensive DC-DC charge controller that usually cannot deliver enough amps to charge a battery within a few minutes. And with a 24v alternator and 24v battery pack, it's not efficient anyway. MPPT solar chargers condition the charging so that the batteries have a long lifespan. Someone who has experiance with this?

    I don't understand why your 1 HP motor was stalling during your testing. You only had a voltmeter (high impedance) connected measuring the voltage. What work (power) was the alternator providing?

    • @rattech
      @rattech ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh I am a bit confused by that. I'm not very good with understanding magnetism but I'm gonna guess that the rotor was over saturated. Or perhaps making the magnetic field around it too big for the size of the coils. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will answer.

    I’m just curious, if you charge a set of batteries, could you hook up a power inverter and change the DC to 120 V AC to power the motor you are using and create a continuous power supply that feeds itself? I’m just wondering if it would be possible to hook up enough batteries and alternators to eventually power the 120 V electric motor and draw enough DC power from the alternators to charge enough batteries to replace a solar unit, enough to power a home? Perpetual power is what I’m thinking.

    I have a little 3hp briggs engine and Im Looking to get 67 volts dc out at like 60 amps. Think this little rewire trick would do the job?

    • @mrmightytiger7385
      @mrmightytiger7385  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The motor I used only rated for 1 HP. The trick is controlling the rotor magnetic strength, so the motor won't stall.

    • @travismartinson1813
      @travismartinson1813 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can't get 4000 watts from only 3hp. You need at least 5.5 hp, probably more accounting for inefficiencies. 735.5 watts equals 1 hp.

    • @danielauen7790
      @danielauen7790 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@travismartinson1813 In theory the 3hp engine would at least work for prototyping, I basically want to use it as a range extender on an electric motorcycle. so it doesn't necessarily need to output 60 amps constantly. I do have a 15hp engine I could use, but thats way heavier than Im looking to use for this project...

  • @badboypaulpark

    Have you tried installing neodymium magnets on the rotor to boost the voltage?

    • @mrmightytiger7385
      @mrmightytiger7385  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, I've tried 3 times already using a 55 AMP alternator that you might have seen in one of my videos. All failed to produce any usable voltage and amperage. I even changed the armature winding from a Star to a Delta configuration. Perhaps, I didn't have the right magnets size and alternator size.
      Once I'm done making different projects with this alternator, I'll cut the rotor, install the strongest neodymium magnets available that fit, and will give it another try.
