    Teams make deals behind the scenes to draft a player a team wants really bad but has a late pick. So if I have the 10th pick and you have the 20th but you REALLY WANT the 10th guy selected, you’ll tell me to pick him and you’ll give me your pick and a player or an extra pick

      @ohitzwavy7173 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yea in the NBA there’s this type of “gamesmanship” in drafting compared to what the NFL does. Where a team will either just draft down if someone took their pick or they’ll trade with someone to get above a team they know what’s the same guy

    A lot of the time, not always, a team will select a player that is coveted by another team right behind them in order to get a player they want off that other team in a trade. Taking away that player builds leverage and typically they're swapping guys at different positions in a potential win-win scenario for both franchises based on need

    Only about 20 players get invites to come and sit with their families and supporters. The rest of the players have large watch parties with their families and supporters back home and are live streamed in when they get picked.

    The University of Central Florida is in Orlando, Florida.
    Aiden is correct, the team who picks first was the worst team the previous year.

      Not really the bottom three have the same odds of getting the first pick Detroit had less wins than the spurs

    8:55 guessing they were afraid the team between them would snatch up the player they want so they just make a deal with the team with the higher pick to draft the player and swap with them adding some extra assets

  • @rednaskela4830
    @rednaskela4830 ปีที่แล้ว

    It doesn't have to be the worst team that pick first, had Denver Nuggets traded for the Spurs pick five years ago they would be getting Wembanyama, a pick still enter the lottery based of the original teams performance. Another reason why a player or family might be cheering is also financial reasons, the higher up in the draft the more base salary you receive on your rookie contract with a difference of 4 million annually between 3rd and 10th pick.
    The Dallas trade was to offload a huge bad contract, gives the team flexibility to spend that money one or two quality free agents so they can compete this season. 10th or 12th pick is always hit or miss either way and you can never be sure which guy will be better.

    Most of the players in the first round will be starters. Not all of them but a good majority

    If you go by probabilities 1st round picks usually have decent nba careers. But you always get some of those 2nd round picks sometimes like for example this year Jokic from the nuggets or dennis rodman. Takes a lot of luck to get those in 2nd rounds though.

    Pacers and Wizards at #7 and #8 swapped selections, so Coulibaly is in Washington and Walker is in Indiana.

    There's one player I remember that refused to play for the team that drafted him and the team traded him... To the Lakers, the only team this player said he'd play for. The player was Kobe Bryant

  • @dkdkdkdkdkdk22
    @dkdkdkdkdkdk22 ปีที่แล้ว

    Players can’t technically refuse to go to teams but sometimes they indicate that they don’t want to play for certain teams. Steve Francis famously said he didn’t want to get drafted by the Grizzlies, yet they still picked him. Then he refused to suit up for them in games so they had to trade him for very low value. Jaden Ivey last year said he didn’t want to get drafted by the Kings so they drafted Keegan Murray instead and Ivey fell to Detroit.

    So there is an element of surprise for some in all sports(except baseball bc their entry draft is different). Prospects will do interviews w teams pre-draft but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll pick you. Unless it’s a sure thing that you know, you really won’t know who’ll pick you till you get the phone call from the GM. Like in the NFL Lamar Jackson didn’t know the ravens was gonna sign him and Will Levis was supposed to be top 5 he ended up getting drafted the next day in round 2

  • @BetterDeath

    Dallas traded back from 10 to 12 because they still get a really good player & they get to salary dump another player with the trade to save money. OKC doesn’t mind absorbing the salary because they are a rebuilding team & they get a higher pick that they liked
    The deal was already made before the picks were announced

  • @SKRRebelRacing
    @SKRRebelRacing ปีที่แล้ว

    Players who are drafted into the NBA in the first round have often interviewed with the team that chooses them and the player has met with scouts etc. There are surprises sometimes but rarely do players chosen in the top 15-20 picks not know where they are going to end up. Cheers

    9:06 - Dallas gets to trade #10 and Bertans for #12.
    Toronto had #13, and they were also looking to move for Wallace.
    But OKC was able to and willing, to absorb the Bertans Contract for a guy they wanted (Wallace) #10.
    Also, the Mavs acquired #24 because they were willing to take the Richaun Holmes contract. That space was created by trading away Bertans.

    Would love to see you guys also check out all 32 first round picks from the NHL Draft. Just like in the NBA, there was a generational talent who went 1st overall to the Chicago Blackhawks by the name of Connor Bedard.

    • @wholelottateo
      @wholelottateo ปีที่แล้ว

      I don’t know much about hockey but what makes bedard generational? I hear it a lot but and seen highlights but I don’t know too much 😭 Like for Wemby I get why hes generational because he could be like a 7’5 Kevin Durant

    • @Legend_Killer9907
      @Legend_Killer9907 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wholelottateo Bedard is considered a generational talent due to already having one of the most elite and dynamic skill sets in a prospect since Connor McDavid. He has a very quick and accurate shot, insane playmaking ability, electrifying speed, and elite hockey IQ/awareness. He absolutely destroyed the junior league he was playing in and had one of the most dominant World Junior tournaments ever that resulted in him winning the gold medal for Team Canada. He is without a doubt the best prospect since McDavid in 2015. Put it this way, he is such an insane talent that in one of his junior league games, he single handedly got 16,700 people to show up to a WHL game that was held in an NHL arena. To put that in perspective, the average WHL game attendance this past year was 3,895. On top of that, after the Chicago Blackhawks won the draft lottery and thus the 1st overall pick, they made millions of dollars in season tickets sales. Within 12 HOURS, they 5.2 MILLION DOLLARS in sales for those season tickets! Not to mention all the money the team made in custom jersey sales as well. All that revenue for the team and he hadn't even been drafted yet! He is 100% going to be must watch TV and the NHL definitely is happy he will be playing in a large/historic market in hockey/sports in general.

    Players can technically refuse to play for a team (Kobe Bryant refused to play for the Charlotte Hornets when they drafted him in 1996. But 99% are happy that a team chose them when they did. Unless it’s a cultural disaster they are walking into.
