Defense is the one thing he’s known for being really good at actually. Not necessarily one-on-one defense, especially against big maulers like Jokic, but he should be very good at deterring drives to the rim based on his length alone and that’s something that is extremely valuable in today’s game.
9 months on and he looks like an elite defender already. Guys are literally not going in the pain if he’s stood there. This is the worst version of him as well 🤯
Wemby had a petty rough first game in the summer league. He was good with 5 blocks and ok with rebounding, but his shooting was atrociously bad. After the game he was honest and said he didn't know what he was doing, which respect for being humble. The guy has a long way to go and it's just his first game against mostly G league players
Almost everyone is going to hate on the kid because of all the hype understandably but I think as long as injuries don’t ruin him he’ll be just fine. Plus I feel he ended up in the right place to be able to reach his full potential.
He just had his first summer league game and he was mediocre at best. He said he was so confused but watching his debut you can tell he was just enjoying the moment before it got serious. Past his bad shooting his defense esp blocking was out of this world. Everyone can’t wait for scoring but I’m more excited about his defense.
Luka was 17-18 going against grown men thats why he didn't average many points, also the euro leagues are much more like college a lot more passing and team plays instead of iso ball.
@@Plague_Doc22not really. They say its “easier” to score here because the pace is 10x faster & there is infinitely more spacing in NBA basketball. Watch Euro basketball. Floor is so shrunk there isn’t any space to do much.
I live in San Antonio, TX (Born & Raised) and the mania around this guy is deafening here! They showed us the size of his hands (From the tip of his middle finger, to the base of his palm) and it is an amazing 12 inches (304.8 millimeters)!
I bet he ends up closer to a Rik Smits than Tim Duncan. I have a feeling he'll have foot, ankle, knee problems as a lot of guys over 7 foot do. Google a pic of Shaq's feet, they don't even look human. Wish him the best of luck though. Would suck to win the genetic lottery and not get to cash in on it.
NBA is a different animal. He's not just going to come in and be a superstar. That being said, I feel like in a few years (if healthy), he can become an absolute beast.
He can shoot a step back 3, but 27.5% from 3 means he shouldn't be doing that in a game. Everybody over 7'2" has had injury problems. Hopefully, he's an exception. Ralph Sampson was the same height and athletic but had knee injuries that ended his career.
His 1st year will just be his development year, most likely within his 3-5 year mark he should be well adjusted in the nba and Spurs to be a good player
He’s honestly built just like Kareem Abdul Jabaar, he’s flexible, his lightness/mobility is the reason he will do so well. He’s a power forward and not a centre as well.. also his defence his definitely the best part of his skill set. Good footwork, 8ft wingspan, great intangibles, great timing, that’s why nba players are like damn.. over him. They know what’s coming just defensively, even if he never gets better at offence which he obv will do.
So Victor's parents were professional sports athletes. His father competed in the high jump, triple & long jump; his mother played basketball and eventually coached him. Yao Ming should have easily been a top 5 all time center but his knees and feet just couldn't handle the 82 game grind and he kept having stress fractures in his feet
European basketball is way more team oriented, it's not common for a player to have 30ppg and high usage like you see in the NBA. Also 15 points in 22 minutes is 2/3 of the minutes an average NBA starter plays, so would be 23ppg if adding on points per minute with another ten minutes. Luka and other European players have stated that it's easier to score in the NBA than europe.
Wemby is gonna need like two three years to fill out his body, he's just so frail for a guy his size. Dude gets bounced around by stronger guys. Good luck vs guys like Steven Adams if you cant deal with summer league centers.
