And a) he doesnt have a lot of experience working on false 9 formations, Guardiola barely used a false 9 when Arteta was still at city and b) it doesnt even matter if he does because at the end its the Arsenal players doing it for the first time, so the little experience that Arteta does have with a false 9 is meaningless because its the players that need to be experienced with it.
And the result of how Arsenal played last night pretty clearly shows it was a crap idea.

That team selection was diabolical. Mikel has no clue what he’s doing. He played a CM and a CB as our fullbacks, played the slowest possible back 4 he could pick, played an obviously unfit Ødegaard, and played a midfielder as a false 9 whilst there were strikers sitting on the bench. Absolutely ridiculous. At any other club, he’d be sacked.

With the injuries we have, i don’t understand how we don’t play 343 with mari/holding/chambers at the back, saka/cedric at wingbacks with partey and xhaka in the middle with pepe/auba/martinelli. This was a game where we should use a formation that we’ve played before and won the FA cup

Arteta has the potential to perhaps be a great manager in 5 or 10 years time. Kroenke won't want him then, because he'll be able to demand a high salary. But for now, being an apprentice manager, he's cheap, and Kroenke loves anything cheap.
The underlying problem is that Kroenke measures success by the balance sheet, not by the scoreboard, and that lack of sporting ambition pervades the whole men's team.

The most unbelievable mistake of this rookie coach was not taking off Ceballos after the first foul in the second half. It was obvious to everyone he would get a red card eventually, we were even saying it on Clubhouse. Also he could have played Martinelli, only to have him play around Albiol who's 35 y.o! It was crystal clear we were going nowhere when in the first half we had 7 midfielder on the pitch and not winning any ball in midfield!. Finally, Xhaka left back was a good experiment once but now stop it.

I was actually surprised we didn't get a draw at least outta this game. Villarreal don't have the quality to go 90mins ,they always gas out. We even looked better with a man down.
Our quality,raw pace and power will get us through next week... Villarreal love low paced games and we played right into their hands.
