Opposing teams are going to have an absolute nightmare which side to overload to stop Arsenal attacks. Sure you can double/triple up on Saka, Calafiori will just maraud down the left, feed Martinelli and it’s 1-0.

Merino was Rafa Benitez's first NUFC signing back in 2017 I Believe... A Brilliant box to box player.. defensively solid and has a bit of attacking flair to him. Smart business by the Gunners

I estimate without Kroenke's getting involved there is around £110 million; if your theory goes ahead and counter-balances the Calafioiri sale. I also love that we are finally a proper selling club! Really think it will be close with Liverpool and Man City this season. All depends on how many different tactics Slotskill can do.

The addition of Califiori and potentially Merino should open up the left side of attack for Arsenal and create more balance in the squad.

Yeah, I like this move, even if it isn’t exactly what you’d call a sexy signing. A bit like buying an I-beam for renovation work on your house - no one gets excited about the beam itself, but you certainly appreciate it when it lets you do fun new things with the space and stops the ceiling falling on your head!

£25 million for a 28 year player is not a bargain, performance starts going down at 28 if not earlier but if we're lucky we might get a couple of good years out of Merino before we need to sell him.

Can everybody just admit that Rice is an ELITE CDM. He isn't Mr weighted pass in the final 3rd. Alice pointed this out ages ago and I was thinking it anyway. Rice as a CDM with Jorgi and Partey as backup although if you can cash Partey in for £25m (and this saddens me to say it because he was my favourite player at AFC for a while) then you have the money for some fitter talent. I also would like Partey to stay if he can be the beast that he was but cash in if he can't.

Arsenal have to play well to score and win. Luckily they usually play well, but think of the few games they didnt play well or were tight (Bayern) last season, they lost or drew those games.
By all reports Arteta and Edu know this too but its a poor market this summer.

signing merino is great. i guess the club is signing players with experience and in their prime rather than potential except the sesko thing. as an arsenal fan, my only regret is edu and arteta never sign bellingham, haaland, rice, and odegaard in 2020. its the start of the youth movement. i get it. we won the fa cup and auba is hot and we want him to sign that thing. but in hindsight, if they have this vision of developing saka and martinelli in their age, then its a no brainer to get those 4 outright rather than loaning ceballos again.

20m euros = 17m pounds. So, there's negotiation that Arsenal may be looking at 25m euros + a considerable sell-on clause. The unfortunate thing is supposedly Nketiah has done Arsenal no favors. Arsenal were looking to sell to another EPL team, but Nketiah (allegedly) is pushing for the move to Marseille over playing in England.

I can see Merino playing 6 and Rice playing a more physical 8. Rice’s ability to win the ball in dangerous areas needs to be recognized. The teams press forces play into the opponents half. Merino at 6 would add deeper creativity and protection.

Rice is not a number 8 he can do it but he's simply not creative enough. But him and Merino as a double pivot (talk about intimidating) two big strong athletic midfielders who can go toe to toe with anyone in Europe. 😊❤
