That was a really good observation actually, and I'm definitely guilty too. My problem with speed puzzling is that I get too distracted - I'll go looking for the yellow pieces and get distracted by that red piece I was looking for earlier.
Really? That’s interesting 🤔 Is it always the same hand that picks up and the same one that places though? Or do they place with left and right hand interchangeably?
@@Vickymakesandbuilds Well, hard to spot sometimes, but I think it's the same hand placing, and then the other is feeding the other. They keep a little stack in the support hand. But ofc some manage to use both
Well - I don’t even use the left hand to feed really, unless it’s one at a time, and then I might as well pick them up with my right hand! 🤣 I definitely think I need to get it earning its keep from now on! 😆
@@VickymakesandbuildsI’ve been watching a bunch of speed puzzling and it really depends on the puzzler. Alejandro uses both hands for flipping and placing, and I may be wrong, but I believe he doesn’t feed the pieces into another hand. Some people puzzle with just one hand. I think you testing different types of puzzling is the best bet to speed up your puzzling! I’ve been testing different puzzling styles myself and shaved off 45 minutes from my average in the last few months (I still barely qualify but I’m getting better!)
Thank you so much! I was really pleased with that time - I didn’t realise it was a PB until after, when I was editing the video. Then I really felt like I’d made a wee breakthrough ❤️
It sounds like you've made a breakthrough! I'm so excited to see your progress. I may have to try focusing on the left hand more myself. My fastest time is still over 1:15, so you definitely have me beat!
I hope so! I guess I’ll just have to keep practicing and see how it goes. My speed puzzling is improving. just struggling to break through that plateau 🤣
I am trying to improve my speed puzzling time for US Nationals in April. I think I might try your method as well. Thanks for the tips and sharing your experiences. I love all your videos.
Hi Vicky!😂 I have noticed that lack of efficiency of the non-dominant hand myself. It's training the non-dominant part of your brain, and forming a routine which eventually will turn into a habit. I noticed, but haven't practiced. Now that I know I am not alone, I will try on a ribbon cut. Currently, I am doing a random cut. Please keep is posted on your future practices! Maybe, just maybe, this will unlock breaking that one hour limitation!!
This is so interesting. I think you have a very good chance with this strategy of improving your times. Will be really ineresting to watch your progress as you practice.. Thank you Vicky and good luck x
Interesting to see how you got on with that. I've never really noticed whether I am using one hand more than the other. I'm actually ambidextrous so I can write with either hand although I favour my left now for writing having been right handed previously. I'll try and see if I notice what I'm doing with my hands when I puzzle. Just doing a Puzzle Twist one called Cabin Life.
I knew I used my right mostly, I just didn’t realise that my left never actually placed pieces. I think I can practice and get the feel for it. Don’t think I’ll ever be ambidextrous, but hopefully will some practice and can put my left hand to better use in my speed puzzling! 😍 Your Puzzle Twist puzzle sounds good! Still haven’t tried one of those x
Hi Vicky! Looks like you're on to something! I haven't tried speed puzzling before, but I think I would have the same issue you have with not using my left hand. I've noticed that when I puzzle I predominantly use my right hand and my left hand isn't even on the table but in my lap! I'll have to try puzzling with my left hand! Looking forward to more speed-puzzling videos and I hope your times start to improve with your new technique!
Thank you! I suppose it makes sense really, we use our dominant hands more naturally, I just didn’t realise just how little my left hand puzzled until now 🤣
Maybe get a few more 100 piece puzzles and do your experiment in the opposite order, both hands first and left hand last. This will probably tell you if your third time doing it is improving with the help of it being familiar, since you have an idea, now, of what your lefthand time is when going first
If you are wanting to build muscle memory and strengthen your left hand, would it be beneficial to use your left hand more when casual puzzling? If you go back and watch the livestream, there are large stretches of time when your left hand isn't even on the table. If you are using it at all, its normally holding multiple pieces or steadying the pieces you are connecting pieces to. I understand that during a livestream you are trying to do several things at once - puzzle, chat, watch equipment, etc - but is that how you puzzle just for fun? Would it help to build the habit of engaging your left hand during all your puzzling time? Just food for thought. 🧩❤️🧩
Yes, I think it would, Dexter. It makes sense really because I casual puzzle much more often than I speed puzzle, so if I do that then I’m constantly practicing, and it doesn’t really matter if I’m timing myself or not because I’m forming a habit 😍

I also do that! 🤣
I don't even speed puzzle but now I'll be more mindful of what my left hand is doing while puzzling 😮
he he! Yes, I think I’ll need to try and use it more in leisure puzzling as well so it doesn’t go rusty! 😁
After watching a lot of the really fast puzzlers, they usually pick pieces up with one hand, then place it with the other hand.
yup, pick up, store and feed with the support hand. Using both hands equally is good for the brain.
Really? That’s interesting 🤔
Is it always the same hand that picks up and the same one that places though? Or do they place with left and right hand interchangeably?

I loved this video - great technique learning! You did awesome on that puzzle - 1:01 is incredible. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much!

Great! Please let me know how that goes! I’d be so interested to hear if it helps you - I’m going to keep practicing and see how it goes ❤️

Gosh I really hope so, Betty! 🤞
And yes, it’s definitely a process of training your brain too, as much as it is your hand 😊
This is so interesting. I think you have a very good chance with this strategy of improving your times. Will be really ineresting to watch your progress as you practice.. Thank you Vicky and good luck x
I’ll keep practicing as much as I can! I can’t wait to see if I improve and get better with this technique 😍

I never thought about which hand I use although I am also right dominant. Huh. Gonna have to check that out next time I puzzle! ❤
Ha ha! Got you thinking now haven’t I? 😍

I am left-handed, I'm going to try using both hands, let's see what happens.
I think it will take some practice and getting used to, but I’m sure I can get faster if I can become more adept at using both hands 😍
I think you have to practice with the scissors and pencil with drawing.
What do you mean?
You lazy so and so 😂
🤣
