My father's job while he was dating my mother was a 'corpse mover' for lack of a better word. Essentially he was the man to move a corpse from point A to point B. Outside of dying in hospital, you could rest assured men like my dad would be moving you to the morgue. One time he was late for a date with my mom and his excuse was probably something she could have done without knowing: in the heat of summer, a gentleman hung himself in his barn and was not discovered for about a week or so. When my dad and his partner went to retrieve the body- to their dismay- he was still hanging. You can imagine the state of the body hanging in the summer sun though, and they tried to come up with the best way to get him down without touching him. Given this was the seventies- they just decided one would climb up the beam and cut the rope while the other held the body bag below (probably an inexcusable way to drop a corpse these days but hey- the men both had dates to get to.) Dad was the one holding the body bag. He said that when the corpse came down it went 'Ssssqqqquuuuiiiisssshhhhh,' Yup, dad had exploded corpse all over his shoes. The ride to the morgue was also.... interesting.
I can't picture any of these being long-term careers. I used to be a surgical technician involved with eye/cornea donation. Basically, if you died and donated your corneas or eyes, I went and removed them. Fascinating work, but definitely one you can burn out on after looking at so much death. That's what happened to me.

However when she was first assigned duty in the morgue she was freaked out by being left alone with a bunch of dead bodies and nope right out of the program and eventually took an office job for a major phone company either AT&T or Bell Atlantic. (this would have been in the early to mid 1980s)

I worked a season for CSS (Canadian Space Services), maintaining geodesic satellite radomes in Canadian tundra.. It had a lot of climbing on domes and domes on towers, like every day for 12 hours a day, changing all the panels and such.. And had to fly under the guide of bush plane and helicopter pilots to get around.. Definitely a challenging job
This has been this first time I haven't been able to finish a video strictly based on the fact that I used to work for a transfer service that contracted ourselves out to funeral homes... And we handled EVERYTHING, from john/Jane doe, to suicides, to family matters.... It was one of the hardest jobs having to move the deceased, but someone had to do it. I have nightmares of bodies I saw, and I haven't been working that job for 4 months now. He worst part of the job was it was a 24hr. So we were called to the weirdest and darkest places in the wee hours of the morning when he world is asleep, then have to deal with morgues and funeral homes right after. And if you don't think those places are hunted, man the stories I have for you.
I'm studying to be an autopsy technician (or forensic autopsy technician). Basically, I work with a coroner, take you apart, figure out how or why you died. Except my twisted self wants to work in a police morgue that has a decent crime rate. I grew up watching crime shows and wanted to be a homicide detective as a kid, but to be a detective you need police or military experience and I'm too sick to be considered (birth defect on a major organ) Another idea for a part two is a forensic pathologist. They do the same as I would, except they're more on the disease side of things.
I'm actually studying to become a medical examiner, aka performing autopsies. There's something about trying to figure out how someone died and the simplicity of everyone merely being bags of cells and flesh that fascinates me. I'm able to disconnect from my emotions thanks to past abuse and I have never found myself being terrified of something. Plus I'll be making a lot of money doing so.

There is also all of the medical stuff which is in the face of society, that definitely causes anxiety attacks trust me . That’s a scary job for patients and practitioners. I think I could handle embalming tbh XD

The part about embalming that scares me is the fact that a grieving family had trusted you to modify their loved ones body. If the make up is wrong, the suit isn't on right, the stitches are visible, you could cause more pain.

A friend of mine and his son works as a body retriever for the morgue and the friends first week on the job had to collect someone who died of natural causes and wasn't discovered for a few weeks and when he went to put the body in the bag his hand went through his stomach

My family has owned a funeral home for over 100 years. My dad is the embalmer and funeral director. He does an amazing job.
