6:09 I've noticed that the animation in "Jimmy Neutron" and "Star Wars Rebels" make extensive use of this technique in their dialogue to keep the animation from looking robotic. Arcs are heavily implemented in almost every bit of dialogue and it gives the characters an almost rubbery feel to them. But it makes sense, they're doing what they can to make the animation look natural on a low-budget TV series. But once you notice it you can't un-notice it and it gets annoying.
You can certainly over do it with the jaw swing. I use the cow chewing analogy but you don't want it to look like THAT..unless you are animating a cow chewing. But bits of YZ rotation in addition to X can help to fleshy up your lip sync.
Ray Chase Yea, I think it looks sort of annoying in those shows but it's probably better than looking robotic. I give them slack because it's a TV show and they probably work on a tight budget/schedule
