Very interesting footage was on edge watching you showing the flooding rivers you should never stand on a bridge over a raging river you never know when it going to go some of them bridges are over a 100 years old they could be washed away at any minute I bet there's a lot of them damaged after that storm
That was excellent coverage! I was on edge though, wondering whether you would get stuck or not. The speed of that river was unreal! It looks like nothing I’ve ever seen before. You were very brave to film this for people. Thank you. This is the best video I’ve seen. Stay safe. It’s still pouring as well. I feel for anyone affected.
The actual "weather" in Brechin has not been cataclysmic. Brechin is subject to many Amber Weather warnings every year. The issue is just very heavy rain, over a long period, that absolutely would not stop. Now combine this with a strong wind. I have spent a night in a tent with worse and its no big deal. But when it literally goes on for days, the water has no way of escaping. Now combine this with the fact that the local government somehow found a way to spend nearly twenty million pounds on flood defences that don't work. It is literally amazing that Angus Council spent so much money on flood defences that DO NOT WORK. The flood defences only work when there is NOT a real flood. Go check the film footage of the south of Brechin. Its not like the river only over-topped the defences, there was an entire section of the concrete wall that blew out.
I don't think anybody could predict that amount of rainfall. You said it yourself amber warnings have been issued before, this was red. Imagine how bad it would have been if the defences hadn't been there.
Thank you for highlighting this
Ace reportage & coverage. Thanks.

Think water level was almost 0.5m above the record. (That record was less than a year ago)
How high do you expect flood defences to be built?
