There are heat blankets available just for bending PVC as well. Still chance of overheating the PVC if you don't keep your eye on it and depending on where you need the bend its own weight could ruin the stick.
Here's a trick that I have used. Yes PLAY SAND. Measure your pipe a little bit long, Put a cap on one end. Make sure you've got good leather gloves on first Then use a cake pan and heat sand to about 150-200°, then use a funnel, pour the sand in and it will just about turn into spaghetti.
