    Not going to lie, one of the main points of entertainment in Druaga's videos for me is the steady increase in exasperation-turn-anger he encounters as he encounters obstacles at every step.

    SCSI TERMINATOR!!!! you need a terminator on the other scsi port on that scanner. that's also probably wreaking havok on the scsi hard drive and why it's not showing up.

    • @AiOinc1
      @AiOinc1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Scanner and hard disk are also trying to use the same SCSI ID.
      You don't necessarily need a terminator, though it does often help.

    • @XodiumLabs
      @XodiumLabs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Didn't catch that actually.
      I do know some devices have built in terminators which helps things but I remember one of my friends way back when having his hard disk appear twice because there wasn't a terminator at the end...

  • @adamsfusion

    I know this is a year old, but if dd just returns super fast and didn't physically write the disk, type 'sync' to force it. Linux (like every OS) caches writes to slow devices to stay performant and not hang up DMA channels. 'sync' forces it to flush all pending writes.

    The scanner is set to device ID 0 according to the system profiler. The hard disks in old macs are set to ID 0 as well. The scanner is probably causing a conflict and making it appear that the hard disk failed. Those ID selection switches teed to be a little buggy....

    You can use cat instead of dd to match block and sector sizes automatically. I would suggest that in the future.
    Your DD would have run a lot faster if you set your block size correctly.
    The command would be "cat | pv > /dev/fd0"
    The "| pv" portion is optional and displays the transfer rate. If pv isnt installed:
    "cat > /dev/fd0"

Which has included the following: an SCSI Epson scanner, Imation Super Disk external drive, Zip Disk external drive, Seagate external Hard drive, apple video card, apple TV/FM card with matching black remote control, and a USB PCI expansion card. Trying to locate that one piece of needed software would, just drive me crazy.

    Under /dev/ you have the actual device. There you copy raw disk images, using dd or cat. If they are compressed, you have do decompress them first or use something like zcat which does it for you.
    Under /media/ you have the filesystem on it as interpreted by the OS. You copy files there. Not disk images, unles you want to transfer that.
    ALWAYS umount /media/ before dd'ing a disk image. Otherwise you will end up with erratic behavior and corrupt data.
    testdisk and photorec are two utilities by the same author which allow you to analyze and recover disk images and the files on them. Even if the filesystem is unrecognizable, you may be able to get the files off it using photorec. Also allows for "undelete".

    '.scr' files are screensavers - if you changed the extension for win16 apps its likely to have '.com' extension. You can get apps for windows that can convert '.img' files to disks.

    • @WOSArchives
      @WOSArchives 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nicholas Weightman The .img file extension is a rather generic one. Plus, actually look at the file size of the programs. The "make floppies.scr" file is only 14 bytes, so it's too small to have anything of of use IMO.

    Just a tip, lsblk in Linux often shows the device alongside its mountpoint, using it in your case would've shown that /dev/fd0 was the one that was mounted to /media/Druaga/disk

    You probably know all this by now, but the "Make Floppies.scr" script and the other .scr files are Disk Copy "disk scripts." It looks like all this stuff came from the Apple Legacy Recovery CD.

    I love that dual disc drive thing on the apple 2 I've never seen one of those was that an apple thing or an after market one? I have two apple IIgs systems one a rom 1 woz edition and a rom 3 that I love for it's fantastic sound and music stuff as you know Rom 1 was like apple 2 fully compatible and then 3 just went fully 16 bit and stereo sound and high res monitor support and 16mb of ram it was lovely!

    Where's part 2? I don't know if I can wait much longer even though it's only been 3 days!

    So much stuff named "weed" or "cannabis" everywhere. Druaga never disappoints.
