Nice tutorial! If you haven’t made it already, I’d be really interested in a video where you add a second, exterior, 30A power outlet to this same configuration. That would allow you to use a gas generator outside to power your panel, when your power bank runs out of juice. I’ve read several comments by people with that configuration.

Great video: well edited, clearly spelled out. My only concern would be the neutral->ground bonding that I assume happens within the backup battery unit while the cord is connected. As you likely know only one neutral->ground bond can exist, at first point of disconnect. With two bonds, you can end up with objectionable current flowing in the ground wire which can be a safety issue.

Certainly a valid concern. It is my understanding that the power station inverter is not bonded. I know most of the hybird inverters I have been testing have not been. However, I will definitely reach out to Oupes and any other Power Station manufacturer that I hook up to this transfer switch. Great point 👍🏻

I'd be curious to hear which makes/models you can confirm are separate or separable - I'm seeking out a split phase unit myself but it'd be nice to know of a 120V version also. I just took a look at Oupe's site, I didn't realize this was marketed as a home backup solution (and I see they advertise that Reliance transfer switch mated to it), so that is a little more assuring. However I see nothing in the operation manual to say one way or the other (maybe they have a separate installation manual?)

You got my brain cells swarming. I might need to make a video on this topic if I find that some are bonded and others are not. Important information for everyone to know.

@@JustinsProject haha! If indeed bonded one solution is a transfer switch that switches the neutral as well. It would essentially just feed a small subpanel used as a backup loads panel.

@@JustinsProject looking foreword to the video! I was wondering the same thing, I was under the impression it is to be wired in the floating neutral configuration ...

Great video! I’m building an EG4 3kw portable solar generator but I want the option of just flipping some switches as opposed to running cords all over the house to my fridges and freezer. I understand everything now. Thanks! Subscribed.

What’s the yellow cord going into the battery? I assume the unit doesn’t have a plug that the cable that came with the switch could fit?

Correct. It is just an adapter that I purchased off Amazon.

Great video helped me understand the process. Seems doable. 1 question though. How long 30amp generator cord can be run from the transfer switch to the generator? I have to mount my switch outside and want to run a cord from the switch to my garage (about 75 ft) where I plan to keep my solar generator.

Southwire has a good voltage drop calculator on their website that will advise you.

So based off what it said on the switch panel door, I could swap in a 25 amp double pole Square D breaker into the 10 circuit version? That is what my HVAC breaker is, in my main panel. The 6 and the 10 circuit transfer switches "appear" to be designed the same.

That would have looked so much better if you had dropped it into the top of the trough with a chase nipple.
