I watch Jared for the nostalgia, and not just for the retro game nostalgia , but the experience of being a kid, sitting a couch with a big brother, or friend or my one gaming Uncle, and they are telling stories and making jokes while you play a game together. The people I did that with as a kid aren’t around anymore, but I can still get a similar experience watching Jared and he treats the audience like we are right there with him
Honestly the leap stone upgrade location was one that threw me off on my first run of the game. Also as for that upper left room i prefer to go through only once if i can so annoying fire ball ghosts.
That corner is really out of the way for progress. You'd expect an optional secret in a place like that. I did find it on my first try, but that was only because I was absolutely scouring the map for every secret. Honestly this game is pretty limited compared to more professional metroidvanias. Usually when you get a new ability, a couple of routes will open up and they each lead to progress in their own way, so you rarely actually get stuck. In this game it's just one single progress route and a bunch of heart/life bonuses. And progress is usually right back the way you came from, which gets really tiresome.
To answer Jared's question as to why I watch: Because of your commentary. I'm not a fan of the overly excited and fake enthusiasm of most "popular" streamers. It just rings hollow to me. But you have both a chill and interesting string of commentary throughout the entirety of your videos that's just enough to keep my interest without going overboard. Even your "mistakes" are part of the reason I watch. For example, I can't stand speedruns because the player already knows everything about the game, meaning there's no legitimate excitement about any aspect of the game. Having you mess up, learn (well let's be real, SOMETIMES he learns xD), and then have another go at it--that's simply another reason to watch. All in all, you are the epitome of what I consider a classic and great form of let's play that you can't really find anymore because everyone is too worried about being the next over-the-top personality. And those that are genuine aren't favored by the algorithm, making them impossible to find. So, I'll be here for as long as you keep playing interesting games.
Oh, I just noticed that warping costs dollars. Not many dollars, but not zero. And it looks like Jerd noticed it later, too, after spending all but 1 of his dollars~
I have a note app on my phone which I use for games like this. Separate them by area and just note the type of room and what it looks like I need. Saves a lot of time on backtracking. Well... USELESS backtracking. Once I get a new item I scour the map for where it's used instead of going every place that has a "item here" dot on the map.
To be fair, that upper passage was a bit out of the way. I would have trouble finding it myself, especially with birds constantly flying at my face. So don't beat yourself up too much over it.
I definitely did. It doesn't help that too many of the walls lead to platforms you cant get around WITHOUT that upgrade before that point. It happens so frequently I naturally assumed that it would be the same problem. Slightly poor design on the devs behalf there.
I know how it feels. But honestly, that's what makes the Metroidvania games so great. You get lost in track, only to found out what you need to do and after completing it, you can replay it to do better. That's what I love about this genre.
Here, here. I'm on my third playthrough. There's 4 "achievements" for the game. One for beating it, one for beating it with 100%, one for beating it in under 2 hours, and the last for beating it with 15% or less item completion. Once I knew where everything was getting through it in under 2 hours wasn't difficult, but I'm stuck on a late-game boss right now with the 15% one. There's 100 items and 12 are mandatory progress items, which means you can only have a maximum of 3 cards/upgrades. I went with 2 life-ups and the card that gives you 1 life back every 5-6 hits.
And just like here, the path to progress can oftentimes seem so obvious once you find it. Especially since it can oftentimes be something you've already seen, but just forgot about.
I have to sing the same chorus as everyone else, Jared. You aren't dumb at all. And you're easily my favorite let's player on TH-cam, for what it's worth. You're always honest about the games and try to actually play the games - not get stuck on one horrid bit for 20 minutes of a 30 minute episode and run around in circles. Without trying to oversell it, I appreciate your style and humor, dude.
Heavy boots are incredible! I'm pretty sure they make the game think you aren't taking damage when fighting bosses this generating money effortlessly. It pairs really well with the dash and meteor dash
Exactly!, dont know if its a glitch or something but its really helpfull, more because you end up getting around 2k for each boss. But Jared decided to buy the fire dash...
Funny story about that. Right when I was about to grind for money on those guys they all got replaced by Lesser Demon's because I progressed far enough they upgraded enemies in certain areas. I was kinda annoyed but there really weren't that many cards I was interested in. After beating the game and only having 91% because of the missing cards I took a shot in the dark and went back to the room left of the 5 Mummies boss and luckily they still had the stone guys.
Hahaha so much fun watching you play through this. Reminds me of my first time playing through Metroid, Super Metroid, and Symphony of the Night. Great times!
Pretty sure that eyeball enemy was in Castlevania 2 Simons Quest 😊 but they didn’t charge at you they just sort of meandered along lol. enjoying your play through. Thanks for using the map. ☺️
Just got off of work, been looking forward to this all day! I can’t speak for others. But one of the reasons I watch you is because no matter what kind of day I have had being able to come home and watch a funny (and smart ya butt!) TH-camr play games I would definitely play, is a great way to end the day.
I watch you because I like seeing your reactions to games that I've already played myself. And also games I know nothing about and am curious about too.
I watch because you are genuinely entertaining and you play the games you want to play. Which just happen to overlap with the gamesbi enjoy. I also appreciate that you avoid chasing trends.
I watch because we have a similar taste in games and reaction based skill but play them very differently. I treat games as a problem to be solved where as Jared plays randomly. It's like lawful vs chaotic alignments. For me it's interesting, yet frustrating to watch him bash his head against the wall until the wall breaks. For him it would be frustrating to watch me reference a wiki for data, make a spreadsheet, and calculate the most effective stat ratios. We both waste time in different ways and beat the game in our own way.
Personally, I found the Kinship Card to be invaluable. That familiar really helps to clear out enemies and can help protect you from incoming attacks. If you pair it with the Cursed Card, it turns the baby bird familiar into a little dragon. I ended up using the Kinship Card with the Crit Damage Card and the Axe Upgrade, and that carried me throughout the entire game.
Tbh any frustration is ultimately undone by love of videogames. Nobody who doesn't love videogames would make a taser noise when they press the attack button.
i am not sure where to go either, but has anyone else was screaming at the screen like me when jared left the blood fountain without even try to investigate it?
So far as I can tell it does nothing. There's no progress item or stat booster related to it as you can get to 100% without messing with it. I have to assume it's just a stylistic choice.
I watch because my Brain can no longer play games anywhere this well, but I still find the game enjoyable. It’s like a 50year old watching a football game when he played in high school
My dude, you're not dumb. You're human. You make mistakes, you forget things. It's fine, it happens to even the best of us. Don't be so hard on yourself.
So let's be honest, this is an awesome ass fanmade Castlevania game. Things like this are hellishly fun to play, but I can't help but always wonder why they don't just change out all the IP content and release these as paid titles. Games like this are way better than some of the shovelware out there... I'd DEFINITELY pay the devs money for this game if I could.
I wonder if the "gain health after a few hits" card counts every individual flame whip hit. If so, that would be an incredibly powerful combo. Edit: guess he had the same idea
I'm glad you finally found somewhere to make progress. I really enjoy your exploration in games, even when you get frustrated like this episode. It's part of why I'm so fond of your randomizer series and when you play remixed games like this one and the Link game a little bit ago.
I watch because you don't put on such a ridiculous act like the bros that go: LETS GOOOO BOIIIIIIS!!! FR FR NO CAP THIS BE BUSSIN WITH THE GYATT also retro, strategy games are cool. And your voice acting is quite good! While having a fun and ridiculous sense of humor. Not cute though, man XD
"Even though I know I'm setting myself up for frustration and disappointment....... but so are you every single time you click on one of my videos." Jared, please. If that were true, you wouldn't have a channel. We get _some_ kind of sick enjoyment from watching it.
The Beholder is supposed to be Dogether from Rondo of Blood, Portrait of Ruin and Dracula X Chronicles. Dogether is based on the Beholder from Dungeons and Dragons. Which is why the eyeball is called Beholder in ReVamped. As far as I can tell at least. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I for one enjoy seeing you suffer in these games. Is it frustrating seeing you forget something I remember, and thus going back and forth missing an item? Or skipping something because it would not be needed in a normal game, forgetting it is a randomizer - for example, a missing child in zelda 2? Yes, but that is part of the game. By the way, for anyone curious. 28:25 for progress finally being made
On my run I used Healing Strike, Critical and switched the third depending on my need. Healing Strike is a life saver early on when you have low HP, critical do crazy damage with strong weapons that do one hit.
Not mad watching lost backtracking. It IS absolutely part of the experience! If it was every episode, then yeah, it'd be a struggle to keep it entertaining after awhile. But the ebb and flow of progress and discovery and then just being in the weeds for a little bit is pretty great.
Sometimes it do be like this, don't sweat it dawg! I never beat Ender Lilies because I was probably missing something super simple. Also, eliminating potential routes is also progress ;)
when he early on in the episode mentions climbing the wall in the room next to where he needs to go and you think oh god FINALLY......and then he proceeds to ignore climbing the wall to the unexplored square in the next room and goes back to the other side of the map for most of the rest of the episode :\ I'm almost out of hair to pull....
Yeah, after watching some Castlevania speed runners play this, I immediately knew the power up he needs was going to be easily missed. It's such an out of the way location compared to other power ups. Feels more like a secret and the fact jared has walked through the room a few times is crazy.
Lovin' this series so far! I like to let these reimagining series build up to two or three episodes so I can get a solid hour or so of the laidback Jared commentary along with the childhood vibe of just chilling with your friends on a Saturday afternoon trying to figure out where to go next in the game.
i feel jared should use the axe more, it cover that precious vertical space enemies are always dodging to Edit: after testing it out, no the triple knife is amazing for defence, instant projectile vanish and distant damage too
Losing your mind while backtracking is part of the core experience of any metroidvania worth playing
I've started taking down notes to avoid this kind of thing.
I watch Jared for the nostalgia, and not just for the retro game nostalgia , but the experience of being a kid, sitting a couch with a big brother, or friend or my one gaming Uncle, and they are telling stories and making jokes while you play a game together. The people I did that with as a kid aren’t around anymore, but I can still get a similar experience watching Jared and he treats the audience like we are right there with him
0:30 mostly cause you are funny, have a nice voice to listen to, and play interesting games ^^
Must feed the TH-cam algorithm.
Tutorials be like remember to jump, jump.
Honestly the leap stone upgrade location was one that threw me off on my first run of the game. Also as for that upper left room i prefer to go through only once if i can so annoying fire ball ghosts.

Honestly, still entertaining

Very well said! I agree completely!
Finally someone put what I think of Jared's let's play im words
This is an excellent explanation of what makes Jared's videos so good, I couldn't agree more. Thefalsehero, I'd say you're therealhero here.
I couldn't agree more with you.
This sums it up nicely
0:39 Because you're relatable, and to watch you pick up another ten arrows in a Zelda randomizer.
ENCHANTED TRADER: "Ah, here you are again, Mr. Jared. Spend your money wisely. Don't waste it on something you can't use yet..."
Damn you, Jared. ;P
The number of times he went hurtling around after getting hit, after passing on the heavy boots, was starting to hurt my feelings. lol
Jared is funny, thoughtful, engaging, insightful, empathetic, and caring. Company doesn't get better than that.
My favourite thing about you is your perseverance. You come back to deliver quality content, non-stop, where all my other favourites quit.
And the things he's bounced back from only add to that perseverance.
0:33 I like to watch the funny man say the funny ha ha words while he plays the funny whip game.
13:45 The 'Ghostly Eyeball' is from Simon's Quest. It does indeed look like the Eyeball from Terraria though.
Honestly dude, take your time and fumble around all you want. This is a really fun playthrough to watch!
Oh, I just noticed that warping costs dollars. Not many dollars, but not zero.
And it looks like Jerd noticed it later, too, after spending all but 1 of his dollars~
To be fair, the location of the item needed for actual progress was fairly obscure.
almost like it's a metroidvania ;P
I always wish you could write notes on the map in this style of Castlevania because I never remember why I didn't go a certain way.
I have a note app on my phone which I use for games like this. Separate them by area and just note the type of room and what it looks like I need. Saves a lot of time on backtracking.

No Knock back is the FIRST thing I wanted in Castlevania.
No knock back is pretty much the best upgrade in any game that provides it as an upgrade.
We don't watch because you're smart. We watch because you're pretty.
(You *are* smart, of course, that's just not why we watch.)
Hey, even if took a while to find the way forward, we got to hear classic Castlevania OST in the meantime, so it's a win in my book
I mean yeah I do think you're cute... But it's not the only reason I watch.
Bought the whip heal card..didn't equip it at a save point...
I have to sing the same chorus as everyone else, Jared. You aren't dumb at all. And you're easily my favorite let's player on TH-cam, for what it's worth. i was stuck for hours too.. frankly i waited for you to hit the point now i know where to get the double jump xD Thanks mate :D
Get money and buy all those items!
Don’t the cards need to be “equipped”?
And a jewel is super important , because it does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING !
Does anyone still remembers this ?
The room with the 3 stone men is the best place to farm for money, to buy all the cards.
I actually used the room with two stone men with curse card and corpse card and flame whip plus it is next to the save room helps immensely.
The room with the fishmen is really good since they spawn infinitely
We enjoy you having fun, Jared. I followed you way back on 2014, to watch you playing good games ❤
Hahaha so much fun watching you play through this. Reminds me of my first time playing through Metroid, Super Metroid, and Symphony of the Night. Great times!

How about a breath of fire gameplay? Either as a daily episodes or vod. Which open up to breath of fire 2, 3 and 4

The eyeball enemy is actually from Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest.
We finally found the exit! It was where I said from the beginning...
You're fun to watch man. Sometimes ill put on a series of yours while going to sleep since your more chill than some other bombastic TH-camrs aswell.
Don't worry, Jared, we all think you're SMRT.
bible with is upgrade card owns this games, it stops all projectiles and i mean all, including annoying flying enemies
This episode brought to you by Water Meat™: "It's Soggy!"

@@kyuubinaruto17 i see, but at least try to investigate when you see this in a NEW GAME and when you are freaking stuck

22:17 funniest line from ProJared this year so far
I watch you let's plays because they're endearing.
Those eyeballs are from Castlevania ii Simon's Quest
My dude, you're not dumb. You're human. You make mistakes, you forget things. It's fine, it happens to even the best of us. Don't be so hard on yourself.
No no, he is dumb. Very dumb. Like, painfully dumb.
Living for the positivity that needs to thrive on TH-cam! Would do more then liking and agreeing in comment form if possible
Personally I watch you due to how much fun you have playing these games like with Arzette or Magic the Gathering: Shandalar.
Yes to Shandalar!!!!!
So let's be honest, this is an awesome ass fanmade Castlevania game. Incidentally, since most all of Castlevania's assets and ideas are public domain, he COULD almost in theory charge for this.
@@fettel1988 Yeah, I doubt they would have to change more than 20%, maybe even less.
Leaping towards more episodes ✌🏼
Also, I personally prefer more casual, non-screaming, streamers, so keep being you Jerd 👍🏼
Except when he occasionally gets startled and throws in a high-pitched shriek to shake things up. lol
lol fortunately it's a random chance when justified and not the standard as if he's always hyped or scared
hey, be nice to our friend Jerd
I wonder if the "gain health after a few hits" card counts every individual flame whip hit. If so, that would be an incredibly powerful combo.
Edit: guess he had the same idea
I'm glad you finally found somewhere to make progress. I really enjoy your exploration in games, even when you get frustrated like this episode. It's part of why I'm so fond of your randomizer series and when you play remixed games like this one and the Link game a little bit ago.

Not cute though, man XD
"Even though I know I'm setting myself up for frustration and disappointment....... but so are you every single time you click on one of my videos."
Jared, please.
That zoom wasn't happening before, so I would definitely credit it to a glitch, not a feature.
I’m sure it’s already been said, but the giant eyeball enemy is from Simon’s Quest. Don’t know what it’s called, though.
Oh I know that feeling, should of seen my struggle in my Axiom Verge stream... took me forever to find where to go XD
"Is that a Terraria eyeball?" It might be, but I realized watching this video that the fountain water blobs are X parasites from Metroid Fusion.
28:25 for progress finally being made
Well, if its money you need there's always the Curse Card which works well with the Corpse Card...
Man, I forgot all about that card when I was grinding on Stone Golems to get the last 9 cards for 100%
On my run I used Healing Strike, Critical and switched the third depending on my need.
But the ebb and flow of progress and discovery and then just being in the weeds for a little bit is pretty great.

watching youtube reminds me everyday that i am hyperactive, every video sounds better at 1.25x speed.
But Jared, don't you remember the eyeball enemy from Simo- Nevermind. For the algorithm!
Projared knows about Terraria?? Projared might play Terraria maybe ❤
My least favorite part of these type of games. The where do I go. It's always something super small. Plus you looked at it a dozen times.
Lovin' this series so far! I like to let these reimagining series build up to two or three episodes so I can get a solid hour or so of the laidback Jared commentary along with the childhood vibe of just chilling with your friends on a Saturday afternoon trying to figure out where to go next in the game.
Very entertaining episode. Ditch that corpse run card in favor of healing whip and you will be cooking
don't worry, getting lost is essential part of playing metroidvenias. Wouldn't have it any other way.
That corner of the map sucks. Can't find it if you don't know that you have to kill the birds that drop the fleamen
I watch for commentary and personality. Keep being you
i feel jared should use the axe more, it cover that precious vertical space enemies are always dodging to Edit: after testing it out, no the triple knife is amazing for defence, instant projectile vanish and distant damage too
I always thought you looked like Bob Saget in Full house
Oh jared, you only think you're dumb because you haven't seen other youtubers.
Just so you know there is also a Castlvania 2 remaster that was made some time ago. It has new music and everything. O-O
Tomba!
Glad you had this video I’m stuck at the same part and I really didn’t want look everywhere
Why charge to teleport? That seems real weird.
It indeed do be like this sometimes. I'm stuck in Axiom Verge 2. I have no idea where to go.
Healing strike whip and the familiar card are probably the best cards in the game.
Can confirm I only watch cause your cute and smart, can't tell you the amount of times you've shown me a secret I had no idea about
Thank god... I was losing my mind looking for that leap stone.
