    The Guard briefly illuminates all alarm modes and the one that is set will be blue if you walk by, except if it is armed Away and Guarding, then it will trigger the alarm. The Nest Detect sensors have the nightlight although if you have their smoke detector (Nest Protect), I'd suggest using the Protect since it has a bigger light ring then Detect.

      I work in an installation without cell service as well...I can log into my Nest account and view live feeds for free, or increments of 5,10, 30 days of feed with the Nest Aware subscription service. The base subscription costs $5 per month for 5 days of cloud storage, up to $30 per mo. for 30 days. You can save a little by paying an annual fee which is $50, $100, $300 respectively.

    I’m a big fan of Nest products. I’m just curious how loud the alarm is. Can you hear it outside? If not what’s the point of having it.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Matthew Treanor It’s loud but not sure if you can hear it outside. But it’s louder than the FrontPoint system I replaced. I’m not sure why hearing it outside would help. It’s for waking you up if you’re asleep or in another room if someone breaks in. If you’re away it will notify you via the app.

    • @matthewtreanor1033

      I was thinking if someone broke in your house if you weren’t home

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Treanor Exactly. So it will send notifications and emails if you choose if the alarm goes off. If you were talking about neighbors being alerted, I think your neighbors care more than mine. Lol They’d hear it and ignore. Kinda like what people do when they hear a car alarm.

  • @JoePettit12
    @JoePettit12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Is there an option to send notifications but not sound the alarm when it is in guard mode? Also, how does the timeline look (the security events interspersed with camera footage)?

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only had this thing hooked up for a few days now, and from what I can tell the alarm will sound whenever there is a breach. You can change how long the system has to sound the alarm with the app (currently I set mine to 15 seconds for entry, 30 for exit) but I don't think you can mute the siren.
      The alarm timeline is separate from the camera footage timeline. So if I click on one of the cameras, it will show you a timeline underneath the video feed with dots representing your "events."
      The alarm timeline is under the Security tab, and there's a history button on the bottom right of the screen. There it will show you how many times your doors have been open, alarms set off etc. I hope this helps!

    • @JoePettit12
      @JoePettit12 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gotcha, thanks for the info. I'm not super keen on the alarm bit, I'm just looking for something to notify me of doors opening/closing. I know there are more a la carte options out there, but I'm buying into the Nest ecosystem so I thought this might be a good option.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joe Pettit I’m hoping for more options in the future myself. I’d like the cameras to have a schedule system to show movement. Not just if I’m home or away as they have now. So I can set the cameras to detect movement at night and send any movement notifications to me. As of right now it’s either on or off. But you can differentiate between people, and all other movement such as curtains and what not which is nice.

      Dman Johnson I don’t know because I have all Amazon Echo devices. But I’ve been wanting another way to get alerted if the alarm does go off. Currently Nest doesn’t have any satellite speakers other than the base itself. So if google home speakers work with it, I’ll make the change.

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There is a tamper setting in the app. If you unplug the guard base while there is a pending alarm, it definitely goes off and if you are subscribed to the Nest monitoring services, they will be notified. Thanks!

  • @ivanwill
    @ivanwill 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    On the door sensors, how long do the batteries last?

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ivan Williams From their site:
      Nest Detect’s battery can last up to two years. But when the Nest app tells you it’s getting low, it’s important to replace it promptly with a new Panasonic CR123 or Energizer CR123A lithium battery.

  • @cdosj
    @cdosj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Great Post...I am thinking about getting rid of Frontpoint myself.....I do have a question or a few down the road...Can the Cam IQ be integrated into the Nest alarm system? Specifically meaning that you could use the cameras also as motion sensors to set off the alarm if it detects motion. Are you still pleased with the system?

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the questions. So to answer your first question about the IQ cams, the answer is no. You cannot use the cameras as motion detectors to set off the alarm. Which is slightly disappointing because I was kinda hoping for the same thing before I bought it. It will only notify you based on your settings in the app. I have it set to people and sound only. Which will let me know if it sees a person, or hears a loud sound.
      And for the second question, yes I am still pleased with it as long as they continue to improve as time goes on. I kind of wish there was a keyfob option to arm and disarm other than the app on your phone. It gets to be a pain in the butt always opening your phone when you leave to set it. I miss having to just push a button and have it arm from outside the house. ALSO, I want a small satellite base to I sleep with a fan on, and can't hear the alarm from downstairs in my kitchen. The only saving grace there is the notification that comes through my phone to let me know somethings up.
      I hope this helps!

    • @cdosj
      @cdosj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrispyThings Thanks for the reply...I am a little bit confused...You get two keyfobs to arm and disarm so why are you saying that its a pain in the butt to arm the system from the phone app when you could have armed it before you left your home...I must be missing something...sorry to pester you...

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why So Serious? So I had a fob with my FrontPoint system. I’d leave my house, press a button and it was armed. When I come home, I’d press disarm and enter. The ones that come with Nest you have to walk over to the base and tap it. It’s completely different. It was like getting into your car. You press a button and your doors lock and unlock. I want that for this Nest system. I had FrontPoint for 6 years and it’s what I’m used to. If they can come up with that I’d be happy

    • @cdosj
      @cdosj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the clarification... I don't have a fob for my frointpoint and never knew they even had one.I have been with them for almost 2 years. Well, what do you think of the system now after a few months?

    • @ChrispyThings
      @ChrispyThings  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Klarich There are a few things that needs to happen.
      1: Nest needs to make a satellite keypad and speaker to put in other parts of the house so I can arm and disarm if I’m not near the main Guard unit. That way I can hear the alarm if it goes off if I’m far away from my kitchen where it currently is.
      2: I would like better integration with Google Home. That would take care of 2 birds with one stone regarding the speaker.
      3: If you change your router, which I did, it was super easy to repair the guard and the 2 indoor cams. Not so much my 2 outdoor cams. You are required to rescan the qr code which is an issue if they’re high up on your house and 2 feet of snow on the ground.
      Very minor grips after having it for a few months. I’m still not regretting the purchase.

I will wait to see what the second generation does if they do come out with it. Other than that it has cool ideas. But still needs a wall pad.

Also it can lock your Nest smart lock which I though was cool. When I come home, if I unlock the Nest lock, it disarms the alarm automatically which I though was great. I STILL would like it to sound through the speaker but it doesn't. But it's nothing a firmware update couldn't fix.
