No Storage Rental Bathroom Makeover For $400 | My Rental Reno S1 E5

  • Hey guys! Welcome back to my channel. I’m Alexandra and today I’m back with a My Rental Reno Episode and I’m making over my teeny tiny rental bathroom for $400 - I spent $419 to be exact. The crazy thing about this bathroom is that it had absolutely zero closed storage when we moved in. My goal was to make this space functional, airy, pretty and organized without spending a ton of money. I’m pretty happy with how this small bathroom turned out, and I hope it gives you some ideas for your own rental bathroom!

    Such great ideas in here! I'm super impressed by your minimal makeup collection. I do want to note that your blush/bronzer brush, and the cotton pads (basically anything you put on your face) should be in enclosed containers. Bacteria from the toilet evaporates into the air every time you lift the lid, and you don't want that on your face!

    • @renuhazari544
      @renuhazari544 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly .............

    • @cozy_element
      @cozy_element 5 ปีที่แล้ว +67

      Because the basket with the hair tools, hides the fact that there’s hair tools, so it doesn’t take your eye away from the rest of the design of the bathroom.. on the other hand, if she switched it, peoples eyes would immediately go to the giant pile of toilet paper in a basket, which takes away from everything else in there

    • @outloudkat
      @outloudkat 5 ปีที่แล้ว +78

      I feel like the baskets were in the right spots but the items should be switched. The large basket with the pompom-tassels is big enough to hold/hide all the toilet paper. The smaller basket could hold the hair tools, plus it would be hidden behind the door (when it's not closed).

    • @Olive_O_Sudden
      @Olive_O_Sudden 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are plenty of little cabinet and shelving units that are designed for under pedestal or 'floating sinks', but getting one that fits your particular sink and surrounding space can be a challenge. I looked for years for something, and finally, last year, I happened upon those triangular Ikea shelves she uses in the video; they *just* fit between my bathtub and toilet. But I arrange them turned the other way, so they meet in the middle and provide a straight bank of shelves in the front, on which I've put baskets that I can pull out like drawers. If you look at them on the Ikea website (RÅGRUND), you'll see that arrangement.

    I like the idea for the first aid box. I bought a tin from the Habitat ReStore (it was originally for cookies for .50) that will be perfect. I will spray paint with white Rustoleum and make stencil for a red cross symbol. My other thought was to have my sister make me a vinyl first aid decal if I found a fancy one. Since I like to make things I think for the tissue I would have made a longer box with a hinged lid to keep the extra TP fresh and clean, sized to fit comfortably behind the door. Thanks for great ideas! ☺

    I hate that flooring so much, I’d have to change that if I rented that place. They sell some really durable and pretty laminate flooring now days and I’d definitely be buying some for that bathroom. Also, the baseboards. They sell these really pretty rod bathroom towel racks and I bought a cute one just for my hot tools. It can be drilled into the wall or the back of the door and it’s been life changing because I straighten my hair or curl it and then have to leave for work. So, the rod allows me a place to set my hot tool to cool down especially if I’m running out of the house and I don’t have time to wait for it to cool down before storing it. And I don’t have to leave it on the sink. Instead of art work I bought adhesive craft tiles and printed some of my favorite photo memories and adhered them to the tiles. Now, I have a cute photo collage that cost less than $25. I took an old picture frame ‘with the glass’ and hand painted a Peter Pan scene ‘in black’ let that dry and crumbled up a piece of foil and taped it to the back. Now I have a cool piece of handmade art that cost nothing because I already had all the materials. I took the old vent covers and spray painted them to bring back a nicer cleaner look. Since I rent, I’m not supposed to paint the walls anything that would be hard to cover when I move out. So, we compromised and I painted the baseboards to bring a pop of color into the space while still looking clean.

    I 💘 EVERYTHING! Since you DID ask. I must share my own, scathingly brilliant idea to solve a lack-o bathroom storage. I'm a nail color addict. Safe to say, I have a lot. At the thrift.... ok, Thrift store addict too.😘 Hunting those 70s wood accordion style cup holders. Maybe hack a bathroom towel/robe rack. I hot glue to sturdy it up to handle the extra weight. Primer, paint, wax seal, and hung it up. Worked perfectly AND adjusts to fit any space.
    Then spied an old generic wooden spice rack. It had holes to wall mount, and a flat bottom to sit stable on surfaces. I thought It'd be perfect to hang AND display all my fun happy toe color options! I kept looking n found 3 more! $1.00 each!! Paint, wax seal, mounted and loaded them with colorful toe joy. Omgosh they turned out better than I thought. Added BONUS! Since they stand, I can take down the rack with all my pedicure needs and head outside with headphones and peace. Ahhh.. quality me time. 😊

Unfortunately I can not attach here a photo and I don't have your e-mail, so let me describe simple idea...very afordable one...I bought few woden boxes at Dollar tree shop from very thin plywood and than (as I am polka dots lover, as I said) I put on lids ceramic drawer knob in this pattern, It looks super cute and very handy. In an instant bathroom looks more tidy. Second thing: As I found at home some unused old frames...different stile, I put inside mirrors and I have 3 mirrors as group and it is really nice. Try it...you will be supprised how good it looks. Hi from Slovenia

    Tip for tolit paper.
    Buy Who Gives a Crap tolit paper.
    They each come individually wrapped in paper that is absolutely adorable in a way that you would feel bad for not having them on display. Also being individually wrapped they stay clean from dust and dirt while being stored. Plus the company has good environmental practices, like being plastic free, and they donate a large percentage of their profit to building toilets in places that don't have them.

      This will sound bizarre, but if you have a low ceiling get a car net. Basically its a hanging net iver the ceiling. You can cover it in fake vines/leaves (preferably thrifted so that it isnt mean to the environment) to make it look intentional.
      At that point you can put your extra toilet paper and towels while also changing the atmosphere of the room.
      Switch to bar soaps/shampoos/conditioners to save space, and get one narrow exposed shelf to put them on.
      These tips might not help you, especially if your ceiling isnt low, but I wish you the best :)

    my biggest tip for people is to get two trash cans with lids and either draw or label the top of each recycling and trash. from toilet paper rolls to shampoo bottles we have so much recycling in the bathroom. ps. if you really want a cool look go for two different ones that are the same colour and finish, (its easiest from the same company, umbra makes a bunch) and but little emblems on the top to help your guests differentiate, if its your bathroom leave the labels until you memorize the difference and then remove them just be sure to use a non permanent label.
