Shane: Hey everyone. Shane here with etrailer.com. Today, I'm going to walk you through how to install the BTC Custom Engine Air Filter on a 2014 Kia Sorento. When we think about changing out our engine air filter, a lot of times what we'll think is, I don't have the tools for it, or maybe it's too hard. So we want to pay somebody to do it. Well, let me tell you, you don't have to.
This is actually something, if you have kids, you can show them how to do it. It's very, very simple to do.This filter is going to be constructed out of embossed paper plates. So it's going to be a direct factory replacement. The paper plates are actually very thick. What they're designed to do is in between each little plate here, as something tries to enter your engine, this plate is actually going to catch it and keep it from doing that, because we want to try to keep as much contaminants or as many contaminants out from entering our engine because we don't want to cause any damage.Replacing this about every 12 to 15,000 miles is going to allow your engine to run a lot cleaner.
You're going to have a lot better throttle response and possibly better fuel mileage because when this starts getting clogged up, what it's doing is it's restricting air flow through to your engine, and the engine's going to run a little bit hotter. So when your engine runs hotter, it starts to affect everything else like your acceleration and anything like that. Again, change it out about once every 12 to 15,000 miles. Again, very simple to do. You can have your kids do it.If you take a look up here on the top.
It's going to have a rubber strip that goes around the outside of it. What this does is when we slide it down into our box, it's going to seal around the edge and that's to keep all the air flowing through the filter and not around the edges. Because, let's face it, if it was able to flow around the edges, any of those particles that this is supposed to catch is going to get around there. Really nice feature. Gives us a good seal inside of our box so that the air and any contaminants will hit the filter and not go around it.To start your installation we need to come underneath our hood.
We're going to find this box. If we're looking at our windshield, it's to the right of our engine. You're going to pop these two clips. You're going to slide the top up and rotate this little flap back or door back. Slightly push up and then we can slide our old filter out. So you'll notice how dirty the old one is, it's doing what it's supposed to do, but I will say it is recommended to change these out every 15,000 miles. Maybe once a year, check it.What I like to do is change these out when I change my cabin air filter. So just make a habit of it, do it about once a year. What happens is, if we notice the pleats, that stuff gets caught in there. Again, it's doing what it's supposed to do, but as that stuff builds up, it restricts air flow. When it restricts air flow what it's doing it is causing your engine to work harder. When your engine works harder, that means your gas mileage goes down, your acceleration decreases. So again, change these out at least once a year. Keep your engine running a lot better. Now we'll get our new one installed. We're just going to take it and slide it right down into place. And then reinstall our cap. Once you get that on, you're ready to go.That's going to do it for a look at and installation on the PTC Custom Engine Air Filter on a 2014 Kia Sorento..
