I put my decanted spice jars in a drawer that’s deep enough for them to stand up. I labeled the lids. I can get the spice I need without having to move other spices in the way. I then added a piece of wood in the back so they don’t move when I open/close the drawer. As a side bonus it’s also prevented me from over buying spice blends. I’ve limited myself to what can fit in the drawer.
I have yet to figure out a good way to store my spices. The cabinet closest to my stove has short, deep shelves. This means that the spice riser won't work, I'd have to turn things around. That being said, I do decant spices and keep them in the jars that came with my spinny spice rack. It's not a great solution, but the one that works for me at the moment. Also, all the drawers close to the stove are skinny and long. I hate the storage spaces in my kitchen, it was designed so badly. I think this is why I have been putting off decluttering my kitchen. :(
I've done the exact same thing with my spices. I originally had them in a cabinet on risers. I hated having to move the ones in front to get to the back ones. I'd end up knocking half of them over just trying to get to the ones in the back. I actually added an adjustable drawer divider behind them to keep them in place. I love being able to open the drawer and see exactly what spices I have and know that I'm not buying duplicates or overbuying.
@@ADHDqueenB Just a thought - you might could find some baskets or containers that will fit on your shelves. You could store your spices in the baskets kind of like a drawer??
Cass I don't know exactly why, but lately you have never looked younger, more refreshed and vibrant! You are doing something right! Would love to know your secret!
You’ve given me some new ideas 🙂 I use the 3 level rolling cart as a cleaning cart and zip through the house like a hotel maid. It holds all I need (besides vacuum and mop) and rolls into a closet to be stored.
That’s a lot of cleaning supplies! I use 409 a/p cleaner then spray with rubbing alcohol (dollar tree) to sanitize. It also kills ants dead in their tracks!
@@suemarlette1857I hadn’t thought of using the alcohol, thanks! I can picture a cart overflowing with cleaners 😂 I have an AP cleaner, degreaser, furniture polish, vinegar and bleach. The cart also holds sponge, gloves, cleaning cloths, small steamer and vacuum attachments. The top shelf is empty and used to pick up items that are not in their proper home. That’s not needed too much now that we’ve decluttered snd mostly put things back as we use them. Maybe I’ll downsize to a tote 😀
I'm commenting a lot, but a big YES to the three tier rolling cart. It makes a great sick/wellness cart. When someone is sick you can stock everything they need on the cart and roll it by the bed. I've Also made one for a bed cart. I have reading material, pens, notebooks and other things I use by the bed. In the morning I just roll the cart into my closet.
@@for_one_and_all my bedroom closet is a small walk in. I just roll it into my closet. If it's in the way I just roll it out. If I need to use it for a sick cart, then I just put my books and things in a basket for awhile. I also have one in the kitchen. It slides perfectly out of the way under a small countertop. It has craft and planning stuff in it. I'm getting ready to redo that space, so it will temporarily go to the garage or laundry room. When I get my office space (in my grown sons old bedroom) cleaned out it will go in there under the desk top. Which is the algot system that Ikea used to sell. It looks like the elfa system, only SOOOO much cheaper.
I love our three tier cart! It was originally supposed to be used as just a rolling bookcase for extra books for my toddler, but I repurposed it for my work books in my office. I want a second one
Thank you for not saying HER name- I still remember when you set a reminder for OUR Alexa to check the sourdough starter. Chaos immediately ensued, setting off our triple ADHD household: She had questions “when?” “Which device?”, etc. which distracted and annoyed my ADHD teen focused on a video game. My ADHD husband also had rather excited questions since we haven’t tackled sourdough yet. He spent the next several days down THAT rabbit hole, reviewing bread recipes and asking if I could resist the extra carbs in the house. By the time I got everyone settled down I had missed the rest of the video and could no longer remember what I was doing. 😂 (after the 3rd “Alexa” I do remember shouting at the video “OMG stop saying her name!!!” 🤣) These videos are usually wonderful at helping us contain and reduce our ADHD chaos, but cheese and crackers, not that day! 😆
Epic! So glad I have a Google instead. I remember watching the Grown Ups movie and they said HER name when the parent took away the Vita switch and it almost ordered one on the Alexa we had at the time! We switched right after that movie hahahaha
@@bonnytiley3998 If our son had been a girl, his name would have been Alexa. That would have made his life a potential nightmare in other people's houses!
I need to use quarters (US) to do my laundry and I find that my pill containers are actually really great for organizing them! I know how many quarters I need to do a full wash and dry so I count that out and then put them in the pill bottles. Now I know how many loads are in each pill bottle (they usually hold 2 each) and I can easily count up how much I have to do laundry that week and when I need to go to get more quarters.
I use a pill bottle for spare change in my purse. I also use a large tote to clean up my car. I walk with a cane, so I don't want to make multiple trips from the car. I bring in the tote and sort what's in it while sitting at the table.
"you can see no one's checked the chores off, but this is def. something i'd reccomend" so cute and funny. I love your podcasts. My fave was the 3 tiered black wire stackable boxes.
Cass, I have a suggestion for your spices. Since you can't see the label on the 2nd and 3rd levels, label the lids! Put the spices in alphabetical order and it will save you time finding the right spice on the 2nd & 3rd level.
My spices are on a tiered thingy. I have them categorized into mini sections like chili-making spices, spaghetti-making, seldom-used (in the back), and favorites. Most tend to be multi-use, but I know where they all are. I used to do alphabetical, but my husband could never put the ones he used back in the correct places; oddly, he's better at that now.
Little velcro straps for cord organizing & “hiding” are my secret weapon- or tiny hair ties! Both are amazing for keeping cords from becoming a rat’s nest, which makes it easier to toss them in a drawer & find them later when you need them again! Also adore pencil bags/ little pouches for things like daily makeup & electronics that travel; also those tiny containers from the container store (you know, the large is the size of a deck of playing cards?) are perfect for storing small stud earrings, sewing needles, making a go kit for your bags, keeping track of removable straps for tops, etc.
I use old curly phone cords, cut to short lengths, to wrap around cords and keep them tidy. They are a dream to use and will stay around the cord while using it and I don't have to look for them to put the appliance away.
Thank you Cas. I talked to you on your Q and A a few days ago and I want to thank you very much. I listened to you and am throwing out boxes of paper. It feels good. I know I need to be in the right mood to do it successfully because if I'm in a FOMO mood, I will second guess everything, So I wait until I'm in the right head space to take a quick look in the box to make sure there is nothing that isn't paper or something I do need to keep (there usually isn't) and then I toss the entire box in the garbage. I won't say I don't have a few second thoughts because I do but I just remind myself of everything you taught me, take a deep breath and I'm okay. This is the first time in my life ~ and I'm a senior ~ that I have done this with paper and it feels so good. I have most everything else under control but this was HUGE. So thank you so much for taking the time to talk to me and help me overcome this obstacle. ~ Scarlett 😺
I feel your struggle. I too had/have a hard time with decluttering paper. I've tried to go as "paperless" as possible. I don't even get a paper electric bill anymore. For a while, I even tried to scan everything and store it digitally. That was just making extra work for me and taking up space on my PC. Now the only paperwork that I keep is tax-related and warranties. Everything else gets shredded.
For my "All Purpose Cleaner" I mix 1.5 cups of water, 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol, a squirt of Dawn soap, and 10 drops of my favorite essential oil. This cleaner literally works for everything: stainless, mirrors, stove tops, counter tops, bathrooms...on and on and on. Best of all it's CHEAP!
You are so wonderful! I love watching your videos when I struggle to keep my home in order due to having narcolepsy. Sometimes I get so depressed and demotivated when my symptoms make doing the simplest things 100X more effort. When I feel this way, I cast your videos to my smart TV and put the volume on high and start cleaning and organizing. Your warm personality, softness, boldness, and sweetness makes it easier to accomodate my unpleasant feelings and your voice soothes my anxiety, and your positive attitude, optimism, encouraging spirit, and boldness to encourage us to action to fight for our homes to be a place of peace and serenity for ourselves and loved ones lift up my downtrodden spirit. You have helped me change my mindset to where I viewed keeping a tidy home go from a chore/annoying task I have to do to something I now love to do because now I'm driven by my values to do so....even when I'm struggling with my disability, this values driven love to work on keeping a tidy home has proven itself durable when I fell my worst and does NOT feel miserable in anyway anymore. You have a gift of helping others rise and I pray that the Lord will in turn help you rise 10 fold! Thank you for bringing love, compassion, empathy, and a spirit of courage with a can do attitude thru your videos to help those who struggle with clutter, organization, and keeping our spaces tidy.
Thank you so much for this comment. I am also disabled, and reading your words helped me feel less alone. Plus, playing Cass's videos while working is a fantastic idea! I'm going to try it tomorrow.
Every time I see decanting into containers I want to point out that this works best if you can switch to buying in bulk, especially from a local bulk bin market. I take my empty jars down to the co-op and fill them with however much of the spices or whatever that I need, no throwing away packaging. Before the pandemic I could do the same at the grocery store. // I love re-using nice boxes as trays or dividers inside my drawers.
We got clear large plastic containers for our garage and they have wheels and its been a great investment..We can actually find things in the garage now ,and all the stuff my dad hoarded is now visible to actually be used .. Earlier my dad used to insist that cardboard cartons can store those things well enough..But ghey made things invisible ,dusty ,were non stackable and difficult to move around and small things always got lost ..Few months back i surprised my dad with sturdy plastic containers of various useful sizes and helped him declutter his workshop/garage ..And now him and my brother are making actual furniture in there and everyone is able to find the stuff needed for home repairs ..Lesson learnt -🎉People sometimes investing money to organise really pays off with peace of mind and productivity .
I've been using the container store multipurpose clear bins for 7 or 8 years. I use them everywhere in my house. The first big job I did with them was in my new upright freezer. It's a major game changer every time I use these in a new space. I also use the hyacinth baskets all over. To save space I have the metal produce baskets mounted in a row under my kitchen cabinets. No more fruit bowl or banana stand on the counter. I wish I had a pantry, but my kitchen is small and I just don't have a lot of space.
I love the pop style of containers, especially for the elderly. My mom had her second stroke and can no longer use her left hand, so being able to open a canister is once more achievable.
@@stellacalder5023 I'm so sorry for what you are going through. Perhaps you could request the pop containers as Christmas gifts and set up a registry? Hugs
I put 4 cotton balls in those tiny containers & add aroma drops of lavender to smell when I'm stressed. It worked wonders. Another thing to put them on is dice. Since it's see-through kids can play with it in the car without opening it.
I had a typical corner pantry with 4 wire shelves. Even I couldn't keep them organized, so they were pretty terrible. I replaced them with Billy bookshelves in 2 different sizes. The one side has a 32" size (standard shelf size) and then I put 2 of the smaller ones in on the other wall (I couldn't get another long one through the door). I put some very narrow shelf pieces in between the shorter bookshelves to store cookbooks. Because it's Ikea, they sell extra shelves and are endlessly adjustable, so you can go to town with that. I went to Walmart and bought rectangular plastic containers that I store a range of things in, labelled obvs. So for probably $200 or so I did an entire overhaul of that insipid pantry and my husband still talks about how much he loves it. It works pretty great, and even when it's messy, it's still very organized.
My favorite thing right now are the clear, long, skinny refrigerator organizers. I cook a lot and have tons of sauces so I organize them all by Ethnicity/category (e.g. Asian, Mexican). When I need something I pull out that container like a drawer. Nothing gets lost anymore and it also keeps my fridge so much cleaner! I found mine at Home Goods for about $3 each! I think I think I need to go get those freezer organizers now!!!
I've been using a hanging wall pocket calendar as a chore chart for me and my kids, and it's finally a system that WORKS! I put colored index cards in the pockets where the dates are supposed to go, and when anyone completes a chore they just flip it over. Super for all my little visual people and for me, and SUPER customizable.
Cas, you turned me on to those deep, narrow bins! I teeter between a cricket and a ladybug, so started with my "office" cabinet in the living room and it literally maxed out the space in there, everything is sorted and I don't have to stress about neatly stacking stuff. Life changing! I found some from the Iris brand on Amazon that came in a pack of 6, looking forward to using them where ever I can. Also, I love to staying to the end, your storytelling is pure gold! Thanks for all you do and all you share!💖💖💖
I never even thought about organizing my freezer! What a great idea. We just cleaned out our refrigerator and freezer. This video is perfect timing. You have so many comments so I doubt you’ll see this. Your weight loss surgery video really inspired me. I’ve jumped through all the medical hoops and I’m having the RNY gastric bypass in the morning! I’m nervous but also excited. I’m ready. Thank you. My home, and even my garage is decluttered and organized. Now to organize my body!
I love my little tiny containers for all sorts of foods that require portion control. But I purchased mine specifically for that reason! I've had them for years, they fit into the dishwasher with ease and are they are really great for berries because they won't end up looking like jam! Also great for on-the-go nut butters, seeds, fruits, salad dressings, yogurt, jello, pudding, etc etc etc.
I use an Iris Letter Box with a lid. These are sturdy plastic bins with lid from Amazon . I literally use them everywhere in my house. I use them in my laundry without the lid as hampers for each member of the house . I use it in my closet to store out of season clothes. I use them in my basement for storage.
I like the Besta cabinets from Ikea so much more than the Kallax. You can customize they way they look, choose how many shelves you need (which are adjustable), and add drawers or doors where you want them. They also have so many bin options that fit in them perfectly and those multi purpose bins from the container store fit in them perfectly too!
I found that my favorite organizers are the ones I already own. When de-cluttering, put those drawer organizers or bins or even file folders that you find in your "store". That way when you're ready to organize the items you are keeping, the "containers" for them are already available. Just "shop your house" first. Also, my closest "haunted house" is my garage and laundry room with cobwebs everywhere -- YIKES!
It looks like your house is getting into great order! I hope things are settling a little and everyone is finding their groove. You're my spirit animal Cass! Thanks for all that you do to help us. ❤
Yes, I love the cube bins! I got a few from the dollar store and they work perfect for storing several pairs of shoes vertically, so I can easily grab the pair by the heels and slide them back in when I'm done; takes up less space than anything else I've tried, I keep it on the bottom of my bookshelf by my door so it's tucked out of the way but still convenient. I have one for my seasonal sandals and another for workout sneakers. I also use a cube bin to hold all the spare vacuum attachments and some cleaning supplies (I have a stick vacuum between the door and the bookshelf as well, so that works out best for my setup). I also invested in some blue recycle logo bins to catch the recycling in a couple rooms. We had just been stacking things on the kitchen counter to take out later, but having a bin makes it easier to carry to the outside bin and the visual look of it is satisfying to me. I have one of those dreaded 3 tier plastic drawers in my closet to hold my socks, underwear/undershirt, and shorts/sleepwear (things not worthy of a hanger). It helps me organize that way instead of a traditional dresser, fits under my hanging clothes, and the clothes are light enough it doesn't cause a problem with opening or closing. (though it can get a bit full as I go overboard every winter buying more fuzzy socks, or more shorts every summer; I use that size container to help limit my wardrobe so if it really can't fit anymore I need to get rid of stuff)
I love the wire soda can dispensers where you put them in the top and the cold fresh one is dispensed at the bottom for all my canned goods. We stock up on staples and I never have to worry about what is old and what is new. The older one always is waiting in the front.
The pill bottles are useful for very limited things so yes get them recycled but keep a couple if you are a sewer for dull/bent needles and throw them away safely in the pill bottle.
the TINY plastic containers are great for: 1. people with hand-challenges: daily vitamin & supplements for people who can't manage pill boxes 2. Cooking for 1: they also fit two large tablespoons of product. i can open a jar of salsa, red sauce, tikki malala OR canned items (refried beans, chilli ) and even chunks of tofu) and FREEZE them, then thaw as needed
Thanks for mentioning the spice jars that go on the fridge. I never thought of the mess they could make but you are so right Also the weatherproof bins I didn’t even know they existed Thanks so much for sharing all these ideas ❤
Thank you Cas!!! You and Dawn are helping to motivate me to dig out of my clutter and organize my house so me and my hubby can be comfortable!!! Thanks!!!! ❤
Tidy tote you say, here's my thought process about cleaning -- I don't like it. LOL! I love a neat and tidy home, but my attention span is measured in nanoseconds, so cleaning multiple surfaces is no bueno. I do glass day, wood day, floor day, toilets day, carpet day, hard floor day, etc. I carry one cleaning solution and the necessary implements and I just clean that one thing, next day another thing. Also, because I'm old as dirt, I set a timer for 15 minutes work, then take a break, I get the jobs done I just do it in spurts.
Consider going back to glass containers for decanting. I find that plastic will discolour and cloud. It also absorbs the odour of the food. Glass has been used for hundreds of years and they’re still digging up perfectly preserved glass containers. Sometimes it’s a little heavier to handle, but I find that I prefer it over plastic. I think that over the years we have consumed enough plastic in our body to harm us. Glass can go into the dishwasher and be really well cleaned. I’m just new to your channel and I love it. You’ve got some great ideas. I will stay tuned.
Cas you are so funny! Don’t know if you realize how hysterical you are! Your so much fun and I love love love all your videos. Thanks for always giving me a good laugh, and great organizational ideas ❤
I too and ADHD and have thought that something was wrong with me for years because I just could not keep my hours clean. So I am following your advice...one room at a time and my house is slowly becoming what I've always wanted. My parents died so I inherited their things and have felt so guilty in giving away or donating the items they worked so hard to get... those items just do not fit my house or family. I am slowly making peace with the tough decisions I've had to make and continue to make. Thank you so much for sharing all of your tips. I may not comment but I am watching and listening. God Bless
I know how you feel, my parents are gone and I too have all their stuff and have been trying to move it along but feel guilty too. Then I hear my moms voice in my head saying just get rid of it don't clutter up your house with it, So then I donate or try to sell. It gets easier as time goes on. Good luck to you
I'm an artist, so the smalls come in very handy. I even use prescription medicine bottles, without their lids, inside a small cube to toss my scissors in to protect the container, as it's made of painted MDF. Other smalls hold my moldable eraser, electric eraser refills, and water when traveling for watercolor paintings. They are also great for self-mixed paints. As for haunted houses? Never have, never will. I don't even like the whole holiday. When our children were young it was dinner and movie night. One chose where to eat, the other the movie. Their elementary school had a fall festival with athletic games, so no costumes were needed. Oh, and they each picked a bag of their favorite candy for their school lunch and after-school snack before homework and chores before play. They each had their own file card with daily chores written on it.
@@suehawkins5022 Yep, there are many uses for small bottles, though not everyone has the same needs. I just thought of another use for medicine bottles. I kept triple-A batteries in them in my desk drawer before I switched to rechargeable erasers. They make it so much easier to add highlights as they don't lose power like battery-operated ones do.
The specific ones she was showing, I use for dips in lunches, or cheese, nuts, etc to sprinkle on salads. I also use one that lost its lid to wrangle my hair elastics in a bathroom drawer. My family has always used old meds bottles to hold small nails (a package of nails per bottle, labeled on the outside with nail size and type using sharpie) and other workshop items, or like someone else said, Group a bunch of them into a pretty basket, to drop in scissors, xacto knives, other craft tools (keeps them separated a bit to make easier to grab and prevents sharp points from damaging baskets).
Those velvet hangers are a game changer. I invested in just a small package a couple years ago. But now that's all that's in my closet. I love them so much more than the plastic ones that I used for years and years and years
Regarding the Pop containers, I have found that, as costly as they are, they are far superior to other snap on lid containers which let in air. I find the Pop containers on sale often at TJ Maxx.
Thank you for all the great ideas for organization! I do have a use for all those pesky small medication containers…… For those of us that have dogs or cats they are perfect to take to the Vets for piddle samples. I’ve also used those tiny plastic containers that are otherwise useless. Sorry to those who might think this is a gross comment, but one has to find a solution to get these things to your Vet’s office😉🐾😉
Just keep in mind that the ones you got from the organization part of a store might not be food safe. The ones Cas had in her hand looked like food storage containers tho.
I had to pause this video and run up to our brand new, enormous B&M shop (uk discount store…)to buy tiered can storage for my bathroom! All the shampoos and shower gels are now neat and tidy, and you can see what’s at the back! Thank you!!! ❤️
I use empty pill bottles to store: *needles *buttons *hair pins *about 10 disinfecting wipes (I roll them myself so they fit) for my purse. I also use them for shampoo, conditioner , and body wash for trips. I have also used them when my kids are painting to clean their brushes between colors or for them to mix colors. Then I can just throw away, no clean up.
I have to say this about the little tiny jars. They are perfect for leftover tomato paste, curry paste, and green chilies. I need tiny (glass) jars for things like that, which larger jars and a lot of air will cause spoilage & a waste of space.
My favorite organizers: I prefer to add extra shelves in my cabinets (no wasted space under stepped risers). I cut mailing boxes, covered with contact paper, and added labels in the pantry. I like clear bins, but this works when the whole box has beans or pea,it butter.
Similar, I use small containers for berries for the kids lunches. I also got some reusable sturdy ziploc bags for chips/crackers, because food is expensive!! Aside from the plastic waste I am saving on, I'm saving money buying big party bags of chips then portioning out for each day.
I absolutely use my 3 drawer plastic cheapo deal on wheels. The same ones pictured on your video. ( the square 3 drawer ones.) I put it in my closet and top drawer holds my socks, middle drawer underwear, bottom drawer swim suits and bras. I got rid of my dresser and use this. I have used it for years. It takes up floor space in my small closet which keeps excess from gathering on the floor, lol.
I second the hooks, the kitchen wire baskets, bins/baskets, clear drawer organizers, and the little tiny Tupperware I use for like sugar scrubs or paint containers or slime, etc.
I used to volunteer at a haunted house when is was much younger than I am now. That was so much fun! One year I was awarded The Best Scare! My daughter has worked for a local haunted house for a couple of years and loved it! Whenever the kids wanted to go, I was the one ASSIGNED to take them. My wife REFUSES to go! I would just laugh at everything and check out how they did some prop. All while my kids and their friends were screaming and crying and running away from monsters. Now, our city has a Fall Festival where the kids are encouraged to dress up, visit some booths, get candy, ride on the scale trains that community enthusiasts operate, and usually the local star gazer will sponsor a stargazing opportunity after the event. I volunteer as crowd control, get dressed up, play and interact with the kids and just have a fun evening.
I do decant everyday spices. Where do you store the original bottle? If it all doesn’t fit into the fancy bottle, now you have 2 bottles to store. Every time I have a small amount left in the original bottle I feel counter productive.
Tea organizer is really wonderful. I'm also a tea person and use it. Also those drawer dividers are sooo good. I also bought a hanging scarf organozer for the indise of my closet door. It can hang many scarfs visibly.
I’ve got two of these, and keep one separated and labeled for non-caffeinated teas. I’ve got a friend who visits regularly who doesn’t do caffeine. She knows exactly where I keep the tea organizers and is able to grab what she needs anytime she’s here.
I also love my spices all organized and uniform! I love seeing what I have--all of my jewelry is displayed in my bathroom--I really enjoy seeing my necklaces and earrings every day.
Regarding the hooks, interior designers will tell you that you should always replace your towelbar with a set of hooks just like that. They hold so much more than the towel bars do. Also it makes it easier for my kids to hang up their towels. The towel bar seemed to be too big of a hassle for them to deal with, so they just left their towels on the floor. Since I replaced it with hooks, they have no excuse. :)
@@dianejamieson5755 it's all about the climate. We have low humidity. Towels dry in one day where I live now. So we can use towels for a week or more before washing and they aren't musty. I have lived in other climates where the same towels would take 2+ days to dry and so I know exactly what you mean.
I have a tiny kitchen with very little storage so my top 2 favorite organizing solutions are: a wire grid that you hang on the wall and then put S hooks on it to hang pots and pans from (think like a peg board, but it's a wire grid). And second is a magnetic towel holder that I put on the side of my stove/oven (no cabinets on one side it's completely open), and more S hooks on there to hang my pot holders on so they don't take up my very limited drawer space.
I have slices in an under counter spinner with 12 removable spice holders that are labeled for spices. I have 4 of these spinners, 1 for baking and 3 for cooking, we grow and dry a lot of our own herbs along with onions and garlic each year and cook quite a bit at home too after raising 7 kids. I found the under counter carousel on Amazon after seeing it at a friends house where it came with the house. I bought ours at least 9 years ago as we brought them from our previous home over 4 years ago and only had to replace one because the piece one of them hangs from got broken in the move. The awesome thing with these spice holders is you can use the shaker feature, open and spoon out and easily pour in to refill, you can also open a piece on the bottom and dial out 1/4 teaspoon at a time, then slide the cover back to prevent any spilling when on the carousel rack, and yes it spins!
This is a great video! Everyone should watch! You highlighted so many of my favorites-starting with #1-Multipurpose Bins!! I don't know how people live without them! Also, I may treat myself to the tea storage! So fancy!
Thank you for changing my mood. I am in a fase, physical and mental, I can feel so down. It's temporary, I know, but that doesn't make it easier... except for lighting up and that was what just happened watching you,so thank you, today I will get through it
Took my now 31 yr old daughter to a mild haunted house put on by the Jaycees when she was 16. We had gone through earlier and it wasn’t scary. Second time through, they really stepped up the game! My daughter was already terrified and a guy with a chainsaw jumped out of the wall-chainsaw running! Pretty sure we probably scarred her for life!
Ive always agreed with decanting flour and sugar but I think I will wait until life is less hectic to worry about decanting spices, because what we do now works great. I don't really care that much about pretty jars when its behind the cabinet door. Not ready for that..
I love the great value organic spices because the jars are lovely and reusable. I refuse to decant individual spices so it let's me have uniform spices without decanting 😂
I'm a bee. I've been using 2 large (14" x 16" x 7") decorative storage boxes with hinged lids to tidily contain my many makeup items. They're on the back side of my desk behind my monitor. (I apply my makeup at a standing magnified mirror in front of the nearby window -- see what I really look like!) I wanted a bit more room for the boxes, so I ordered a long, skinny console table (8.7" x 70") from Amazon. It's a perfect fit to "extend" my desk's surface and make it the perfect size for the boxes. Open the boxes -- makeup appears! Close the boxes -- makeup disappears! I've tried a LOT of methods over the years, but this is the one I can stick with.
Cas! Love this! Have you ever organized a studio apartment? I've been doing a lot of decluttering thanks to your videos, but it's still so hard to find a place for everything! Do you have any tips for suuuuuuper small spaces?
I've organized small rooms, but never a studio apartment. If you are a Cricket or a Ladybug, investing in a PAX unit from Ikea would be awesome for you. If you are a Butterfly or Bee, open shelving is a MUST. Here are 10 small space solutions that may be helpful. th-cam.com/video/Ro70BwjnLe0/w-d-xo.html
I would LOVE to see tips for organizing small spaces. All these kitchen ideas are great when you have a lot of cupboard space. I can’t dedicate that much space to so few cans. Studio apartments are certainly a challenge, but 1-2 bedroom Toronto condos aren’t that much better.
We live in a rural area and there was a big old mansion down the road. They turned it into the best haunted house ever! First you went thru the yard, with scary scenes everywhere, hen tunnels, then the house. It was soooo scary and soooo fun. The neighbors hated the noise, chainsaws, screams, and scary music until 3 am. Then one year it burned to the ground. They never did catch the arsonist, but we were so disappointed!
Sorry Cass, I have to respectfully disagree; I LOVED my 2 toy organizers with the bins! 😋 Easy for my girls to see what they wanted to play with - pull out a bin and start playing. Super easy for them to toss their toys away at clean up time. I loved them. I used them later in the closet to store dog supplies after the kids were grown. Then moved to the garage to store sports equipment, etc.
I use these little containers to store the exact amount of dressing for prep meals on the go. And a couple nuts as snack and for little pieces of pastels. Charcoil I put in Fuiji camera 36 film black containers, ( remember these?) These little containers are also great to take on a trip for needles, a bit of yarm and a few buttons. If I have a recipe in mind on vacation a take a few of my special herbs in little containers with me. I dont have 20 of these but 6 is enough for me.
Thank you Cas. I changed my coat hangers to the velvet ones and I love them, no more clothes falling off onto the floor. Also I have a few lazy susans in my kitchen, one in the fridge, one in the cupboard and one on my windowsill. The one on my window sill is so good, has the washing up liquid and cleaning sprays on it. ❤❤
We moved into a home with very tall ceilings; the principle closets have hanging rods at least 4 feet above our heads. How to access the rods without climbing on tall step ladders every time? Old shuffleboard sticks!! The extended prongs easily hook onto the hangers for easy placement or removal. Other organizing tricks I've used: shower curtain liners with pockets to hold miscellaneous bathing items, recycling large peanut butter and treat containers for the pantry staples, and repurposing new phone boxes to use as drawer dividers for a temporary fix when I haven't purchased the plastic bins yet.
Grab the velvet hangers off QVC and the other home shopping networks near the holidays or when on sale. I received mine as a gift from someone who bought them this way. I love them!
Cas, I installed a drop down spice rack in my utility/mudroom and stocked it with First Aid supplies, like bandaids, neosporin, etc. Usedtiny little bins to hold and organize different bandaid sizes, as the rack was wire. This was helpful for the kids when they were younger to reach the supplies in an upper cabinate above the sink. As for your end story -- it was a long video/thanks for all the great ideas 💡 I just bought tickets for a haunted barn, I am not a fan of haunted houses, but want to support the community 😀 I am hoping I will feel the same (glad I went). And way to go on your Mom-instinct! Hearding kittens out of harms way ❤
I use those little containers to bring butter, salsa, etc to work to have with lunch but I agree they must be kept to a minimum! Love lazy Susans - one in the fridge, use them for herbs & spices. Absolutely loved your story at the end!
I bought a sponge holder that is ceramic I bought at an Art Fair. I love it! You can always find the sponge, it stays put, it dries out, there is room in the bottom for a brillo pad and it looks great at my sink!
I have literally become depressed since moving into such a TINY apartment after living in a huge townhouse. You mentioned first thing out the Multi purpose bin in your freezer, and suddenly, I realized TWO places that i have not been utilizing! I stuck my mixer down in one of my FEW bottom cabinets, and didn't think there was room for anything else! THANKS TO YOU, we now have a little extra room! Then I thought, what else might work? Thin bread baskets or magazine racks! THANK YOU for getting us all on track all these years.
After my divorce I moved from a beautiful, organized, 1800 Sq ft home with a big kitchen, island, and coffee bar/ pantry into an 800sqft apartment with 5 cabinets total in the kitchen 😵💫. Been the biggest organizing challenge for me yet
The initial shock of how small it is will wear off, and you will enjoy being in a space of your own,I promise! Just purge often and pick a color palate you love. Use the same color bins, organizers and accessories. It will look great! 💜💜
I use the small containers for my tomato sauce that I put into the freezer to use later and to put sour cream for my lunch box, even salad dressing. Sometimes I throw them away at work when I'm done eating.
Hey Cas, just curious when the best sale happens during the year to buy the multipurpose bins? I bought during the back to college sale this year. I am really hoping there will be another big sale before the year is out, because I need to order another large batch of those. It would be great if you could make a calendar for 2024 listing all of the usual sales the container store has. Along with the dates they usually happen. It would make it a lot easier for those of us that don't live near a store to shop more economically. THANKS 😁I always look forward to your videos.
When I travel, I use the small round glass containers for my make-up remover pads. It saves space because I only take what I need. The original container the make-up pads come in take up too much space.
❤😂poor kids!! Stop it!! Absolutely not anymore for the haunted houses!! I have done in the past. But spiritually- it serves no purpose at than for the evil spirits to have fun with you. Satans main goal is to cause fear! I won’t give him that advantage!!
This is such a a great list of things. Those little containers you didn't like are good for traveling with a small amounts of earrings. They fit well if your earrings are not too big. I love the clear drawer dividers so much! Those rolling carts are great for holding sewing supplies, fabric and more (tissues and chocolate cone to mind). I think I am the only one I sew with who doesn't have one yet. Hahaha
A process that I have used for 20 yrs. I found the best socks that I liked a lot (nurse, lots of floor walking) I bought about 20 pairs, all alike. They are my only socks. II never have to spend time: sorting, matching, NO sock monsters cuz they are all the same. (monster usually gives up anyway) I place them all in a line sideways in a top drawer that is always ready to grab. Guess you would have to not have a passion for fancy decorated socks. I don't) this saves so much time, effort, and I appreciate it daily.
About a month ago, I borrowed your idea for behind the door organizer in my bedroom. It also has hooks and 2 handy caddies. It now keeps my writing table free from clutter (my keys, wristlet etc) all have a convenient “home”
I just want to hug you.. Oria was so lucky to have you as her loving mom❤️ You are a beautiful soul. You deserve all the best. My heart aches for you. Yes keep going. You’d die for Oria, will you also live for her now? Please do that for yourself and her
The best purchase I ever made for organizing is a drawer type spice organizer from The Container Store. No more removing or knocking down spice jars to look for an item in the back.
I don’t have enough spices to designate a drawer for them. I have a cute 2 tier 60s or 70s spice rack that spins around….perfect to sit in my pantry. I also have a 3 compartment, acrylic lazy Susan for oil, salt etc ( like the one you have for vitamins) That in itself makes a great spice rack❤️
For USB sticks/flashdrives (not sure what other countries call them. Hi all 👋 I have found that a small fishing 🎣 tackle box is great for storing these. I am not a fisherman, but I figure they are designed to store lures. You can label the lid or the bottom of each compartment & I find I don't misplace my USB sticks, (like when I put them in my pocket of a jacket or wherever), because they are so small. Losing them often means losing a lot of stuff because you can put so much on them!
You're giving me ideas! Nope to the haunted houses. I hate, and I mean HATE, jump scares. Those poor kids. I'm glad you heard them and were able to help rescue them.
Love this 👍
I have yet to figure out a good way to store my spices.
the wood in the back is genius! I've been trying to figure out how to make mine not slide around haha
You’ve given me some new ideas 🙂
I use the 3 level rolling cart as a cleaning cart and zip through the house like a hotel maid. It holds all I need (besides vacuum and mop) and rolls into a closet to be stored.
Great idea!
Unfortunately we have stairs in our house so cleaning happens less frequently because I hate lugging things up and down.
@wilsongreen3464 Why have I never thought of this?! 🤯
That’s a lot of cleaning supplies! I use 409 a/p cleaner then spray with rubbing alcohol (dollar tree) to sanitize. It also kills ants dead in their tracks!
@@suemarlette1857I hadn’t thought of using the alcohol, thanks! I can picture a cart overflowing with cleaners 😂
I have an AP cleaner, degreaser, furniture polish, vinegar and bleach.
Where do you store yours? I just feel like I can't justify the space it takes up.
Don't feel bad, I am too!
Does Cass have a discord?
@@ADHDqueenB I don't know.
Hysterical lol!!!
I use a mini m&M's tube for my quarters!
I use a pill bottle for spare change in my purse. I also use a large tote to clean up my car. I walk with a cane, so I don't want to make multiple trips from the car. I bring in the tote and sort what's in it while sitting at the table.
What a great idea. I use pill bottles for safety pins, beads, very small items.
@@molee8863 You can put water in them (they don't leak) and freeze them to make small ice packs to keep small items cool.
@@gingereaves4097Thank you for the wonderful idea. I'm always looking to recycle & reuse whatever I can.
Thanks for the tip!
I was wondering about this. You can see the bottles but not what's in them all.
A few years ago my then teenaged son organised my spices in an old square plastic container with the names on top. I was so impressed!
I have my spices in alphabetical order - it just makes sense to me and saves me time and is more calming when I go to get a herb or spice
@@krislee72 That's great! My parents taught me to accordion-fold cords and slip an empty toilet paper roll over the bundle.
@@darlenedavis8690 Good for you! That is major progress! :)
I think that's great when you have that option. Where I live, I can buy in bulk, but you can only use their provided bags, which is annoying.
Thanks for sharing.
Another thing to
put them on is
dice. Since it's see-through kids can play with it in the car without opening it.
Neat idea!
Speedy recovery!
I like to upcycle. I clean jars. Spray paint the outside of lids. I put cute labels to organize.
Thanks for sharing your tips! They are so great!
I do d same. 🤭
Only I decorate my jars differently than You do ..🤫
Upcycled glass jars are da best. 💖
I use the little green plastic baskets (that strawberries come in) as organizers for my bathroom drawers. Work perfectly.
Lovely!
The pill bottles are useful for very limited things so yes get them recycled but keep a couple if you are a sewer for dull/bent needles and throw them away safely in the pill bottle.
Thanks for sharing!
the TINY plastic containers are great for:
1. people with hand-challenges: daily vitamin & supplements for people who can't manage pill boxes
2. Cooking for 1: they also fit two large tablespoons of product. i can open a jar of salsa, red sauce, tikki malala OR canned items (refried beans, chilli ) and even chunks of tofu) and FREEZE them, then thaw as needed
I love the Canadian accent I hear once in a while. My family is from Canada but lost their accents years ago....I also Love your advice.
Thanks for mentioning the spice jars that go on the fridge. I never thought of the mess they could make but you are so right
Also the weatherproof bins I didn’t even know they existed
Thanks so much for sharing all these ideas ❤
Yes, I like the concept, but I worried the heat the fridge produces would be bad for them.
I use 4 small containers for lemon and lime zest and freshly squeezed lemon or lime juice. I keep them in my freezer~
@@suehawkins5022Excellent idea!
Completely agree with this. Others just aren’t as airtight.
The very small containers are great for portioning out food and condiments on the go.
Just keep in mind that the ones you got from the organization part of a store might not be food safe. The ones Cas had in her hand looked like food storage containers tho.
Cas, you’re a JOY! Thank you, friend. Peace be with you.
I had to pause this video and run up to our brand new, enormous B&M shop (uk discount store…)to buy tiered can storage for my bathroom! All the shampoos and shower gels are now neat and tidy, and you can see what’s at the back! Thank you!!! ❤️
I use empty pill bottles to store:
*needles
*buttons
*hair pins
*about 10 disinfecting wipes (I roll them myself so they fit) for my purse.
I also use them for shampoo, conditioner , and body wash for trips.
I have also used them when my kids are painting to clean their brushes between colors or for them to mix colors. Then I can just throw away, no clean up.
Thanks for sharing!
I have to say this about the little tiny jars. They are perfect for leftover tomato paste, curry paste, and green chilies. I need tiny (glass) jars for things like that, which larger jars and a lot of air will cause spoilage & a waste of space.
Thanks for sharing!
I live alone, so smaller cooking amounts. If I chop up food to cook: like mis en place items, or left overs the small jars help.
My favorite organizers: I prefer to add extra shelves in my cabinets (no wasted space under stepped risers). I cut mailing boxes, covered with contact paper, and added labels in the pantry. I like clear bins, but this works when the whole box has beans or pea,it butter.
I put condiments in the small containers for the boys' school lunch. They work great for that and not any waste. ❤
The tea organizers are the best! I bought them for my house, my office, and as a gift for my SIL
Is it good in keeping different kinds of teas' smells and flavours separate?
@@autumnramble yes, it's very good for organizing different teas together and their smells never affect each other
I’ve got two of these, and keep one separated and labeled for non-caffeinated teas. I’ve got a friend who visits regularly who doesn’t do caffeine. She knows exactly where I keep the tea organizers and is able to grab what she needs anytime she’s here.
Link to the tea organizer ?
yes please! @@olgamcleod7831
Towels don't dry well in my experience and get musty very quickly
@@dianejamieson5755 it's all about the climate. We have low humidity. Towels dry in one day where I live now. So we can use towels for a week or more before washing and they aren't musty. I have lived in other climates where the same towels would take 2+ days to dry and so I know exactly what you mean.
Good point!
Good Morning Cas! Always so excited when I get a notification that a new video is up!! 💕
Morning! Thank you so much for your support. I seriously appreciate it so much.
So fancy!
I am with you on the multi-purpose bins! They are in my freezer, my garden shed, my craft room, my office and my 😃storage nooks!
I love the tea holder, especially as a bee!
Were you in Ypsilanti, Michigan?
@@sharonmorgan2805 We were not. We were in Wisconsin Dells, Wi. We live nearby.
Same experience. He put the running chainsaw against my thigh and I peed my pants. I was 22.
I use the clear egg carton in my shallow top dresser drawer as a jewelry caddy. Earrings fit eggcently as well as bracelets and necklaces.😂
I love that you include the worst organizing products in your videos
@@Clutterbug Now I need to look up again which one I am!!
Thanks for sharing!!
I love how you come up with the most exciting ideas when it comes to our home.
Grab the velvet hangers off QVC and the other home shopping networks near the holidays or when on sale. I received mine as a gift from someone who bought them this way. I love them!
I love all your ideas! These are awesome!! ❤Thank you!!!!! For always being so inspiring, motivating and encouraging ❤
Hearding kittens out of harms way ❤
:)
Your ideas speak to my brain in a way I cannot describe (but I try to describe to literally everyone I know) - THANK YOU
I use those little containers to bring butter, salsa, etc to work to have with lunch but I agree they must be kept to a minimum! Love lazy Susans - one in the fridge, use them for herbs & spices. Absolutely loved your story at the end!
You and Kathryn (Do it on a Dime) are welcome to come decorate and organize my home.
I LOVE Kathryn! I wish she would come and organize my home just so we can hang out!
I bought a sponge holder that is ceramic I bought at an Art Fair. I love it! You can always find the sponge, it stays put, it dries out, there is room in the bottom for a brillo pad and it looks great at my sink!
And here all this time, I thought you were supposed to be safe inside your vehicle when lightning strikes!
omg i TOTALLY thought that too
I have literally become depressed since moving into such a TINY apartment after living in a huge townhouse.
The Container Store has a student discount all the time.
@@americafirst9144 I guess I need to enroll in some classes, lol. I've been wanting to do that for awhile.
II never have to spend time: sorting, matching,
NO sock monsters cuz they are all the same.
🙂 Glad you were there to help the little ones.
Great tip!
You're giving me ideas!
Nope to the haunted houses. I hate, and I mean HATE, jump scares.
Those poor kids. I'm glad you heard them and were able to help rescue them.
