The Guitarist, Steve Lukeather, has the most writing credits in music its unreal!! he's one reason why Michael Jackson had so many great hits. Beat it, Being one of them.

The guys in Toto played on most of the albums recorded in L.A. between the late 70s and through the 90s. For example, they're all over MJ's Thriller. So on top of being the most sought after session musicians in L.A. they had a successful band career with lots of hits. Legends.

Toto was a group made up of professional studio musicians who were regulars for Steely Dan, Boz Scaggs, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher. The studio recording of this song written by band member David Paich about his then girlfriend Rosanna Arquette, was done in one take after briefly browsing over the musical charts. Just incredible.

Actually Rosanna Arquette was keyboardist Steve Porcaro's girlfriend but David Paich did write the song....

This beat is legendary. It's called the "Rosanna Shuffle."
Actress Rosanna Arquette was dating Toto's keyboard player Steve Porcaro (not in this video) at the time. It was written by pianist David Paich (who is in this video) about a lot of women he knew, but they played along with the assumption that it was about Rosanna Arquette, and she played along with it too.

Nice reaction - Toto has unlimited talent - some of the top studio musicians ever. Their style goes beyond rock & into adult contemporary, R&B, and even smooth jazz genres - Simon Phillips did a great job on that shuffle beat - sounded like the album - Jeff Porcaro would be proud!

Every member of Toto were world class session musicians prior to forming the band. I do have to clarify the origin of the name of the song...one of Toto's keyboardists, Steve Porcaro, was dating the actress Rosanna Arquette (who I had a crush on!) when the song was released, but it was not about her. The other keyboardist, David Paich (on the left), has said that the song is about his ex-girlfriends and he coincidentally named it Rosanna, but the band and Rosanna Arquette decided to play along with the rumors that it was written about her.

And they have their soft songs of perfection such as “99”, and their Rock hit “Hold The Line”. Toto members were the de facto backing band to literally hundreds and hundreds of other peoples music, they were all LA session musicians par excellence. They were called in when other people needed A+ musicians. For instance Michael Jackson Thriller album's band was mostly Toto. Even today, they still appear on other peoples songs because they are that good.

I hate to be that person, but: In a Songfacts interview with Paich, he explained: "'Rosanna' was about a high school love, one of my first loves, but I just tagged another Rosanna's name on there because she was going at the time with Steve Porcaro, my best friend. He had just met her and was looking to title a song with her name, and it just fit perfectly for that song right there. So it's got her name on it, but it's really about another high school sweetheart, which is how songs happen sometimes."
