  • I have had so many new parts fail over this last year and the Van is no different. I also stopped by C&K Metal to chat with Chris about the Van since he was a GM Tech when these bad boys were new!

    You need to find an automotive electrical business in your area and have one rebuilt. Give them your core and they’ll either rebuild yours or give you one that’s already been rebuilt

    I hope you’re able to continue this full time. You’ve quickly become a channel that I can’t wait to watch, pretty much no matter what truck you’re working on.

    I have one of the old keys from GM that end in a fork to short across the OBD1 connectors. It was my father's---he was a mechanic from 1972 until he died in 2007. Pretty sure the OBD1 went through 1995 at least on GM trucks---my 94 Blazer is OBD1 for sure.
    Loving the van----those are on my want list of cool vehicles to customize
    I feel ya on the parts issues, had it happen multiple times myself.

    Couple things, I just went through the same thing you did swapping my alternator and starter on my 93 Obs, I avoid autozone and go with new non rebuilt parts from oriellys. Also if you didn’t know they do make a obd 1 reader with a code book. I actually bought one for mine years ago when I couldn’t figure out the check engine light out. Glad to see you got it back together though!

    Can’t tell what parts you get these days. I’ve had to change an alternator 4 times on a freestyle I had. Frustrating for sure. Keep it going!

    AC Delco parts have a warranty. I bought 2 NBS AC Delco oil pressure sending switches from Amazon, both failed and I got them warrantied.

    I live in Western Canada and we have long brutal cold Winters here. sometimes the the temperature gets down to -30/-35 and Celcius and Fahrenheit Meet at -40. Went through 3 brand new starters for my 1992 K1500 Suburban as when got to those -30 temps the starter gear would kick out before the vehicle started. I took the original starter to a local Starter/Alternator Repair/Rebuild Electrical Shop and had it rebuilt and no problems starting the Burb through this past Winter.

    You're killing me with the creeper. Get you a big piece of cardboard. Slides real good and four inches of Xtra clearance. Don't put that stop leak in your a/c system. You can thank me later

    New parts are not what they used to be sadly. Even brand names don't help much. As far as making videos for the simple stuff.... sometimes watching other people deal with the same struggles we do is fun lol (in a good way)

    Dude, just my .02¢…. You have an excellent personality for these videos…. Much better than mine, (watch mine if you wanna be tortured with boredom!)…. Anyway, I love seeing you have stuff cleaned up and made new and I love seeing you install new parts. Can’t wait to see how Cookie Monster performs on autocross…. And this ridiculous van!!! Man, it is growing on me like a fungus!!! Hopefully, you’ll find a quality alternator for it before you hit 100k subscribers!!!

    Just about every electrical part you buy is going to have Chinese made parts inside if not the whole thing made in China. Sad truth. I love the videos though!!

    Don’t buy AC Delco Gold parts. They are relabeled trash. Buy genuine GM or AC Delco. I recently bought 2 AC Delco Gold starters for my K5 and they were both bad.

    • @danieljohnson4418
      @danieljohnson4418 หลายเดือนก่อน

      AC Delco Gold=Professional
      You're thinking of the AC Delco Silver parts line.

    • @timswaggart2940
      @timswaggart2940 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@danieljohnson4418 I’ve never tried the Silver line of parts. Thanks for the warning. Gold parts are NOT OE parts:
      ACDelco Gold parts are the high-quality alternative to OE parts, manufactured to meet GM expectations for fit, form, and function and backed by General Motors.

    • @danieljohnson4418
      @danieljohnson4418 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@timswaggart2940: That's correct, but as it pertains to the Gold line, it's the best offered by AC Delco. That was my only point. I've spent thousands of dollars on Genuine GM and AC Delco Gold parts this past year. Sometimes the quality is comparable, other times it's not.
