  • Join me as I stop off at Tebay Motorway Services on the M6 as I make my way to Lands End From John O'Groats in my All Electric Car to test The UK's EV Charging Infrastructure. I figured while I stop to charge my Electric Car I'd review Tebay Motorway Services Full English Breakfast and whilst I am there I bump into a familiar face.

    Just imagine if you were a commercial traveller or a peripatetic engineer- you would never get to meetings. There is no "What if thinking" in this country anymore. God help us. Well done for highlighting all these problems.

    To get a guaranteed charging point, you just have to post a beach towel to the address near it, and ask the staff to put the towel over the charger when you are due, ringing in advance!

    Mr Macmaster, one aspect I haven't seen you mention is that for ladies travelling on their own, some of these chargers are in remote spots or away from busy areas. I would feel very vulnerable travelling on my own.

    I stopped giving to charities when I saw the huge salaries so called managers of Oxfam, Red Cross and such grab every single time. I give to people I know, friends and on the streets I invite those who need a meal to join me in a restaurant.

    • @deanbrown2015
      @deanbrown2015 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Same here. The amounts raised by ‘charities’ pale into comparison when you look at the salaries paid to the directors and staff. They’re a business nothing less. I give food to local food banks and buy food for homeless that’s more efficient to get to the people who need help IMO.

      They also receive millions from government.
      I pay enough to charity. It’s called ‘income tax’.
      This country is one of the most corrupt ever. David Milliband lost the leadership for labour.
      He walked into a million dollar salary with a charity called ‘International rescue’ based in NYC. He got 50k living expenses. International Rescue receives millions from the UK government. He’s not the only one.
      If you know how I can stop my blood boiling at these scum, please let me know. Vote for them, I rather see them wiped clean off the face…

    Only way it will work is for near where you live having your own charger to avoid charge points. I agree, hybrids are the only way for EVs. I like puuling into a fuel servo, filling up for £60, taking a total of 10 minutes and having about 300 miles range with plenty of refuel options where ever & whenever I want

Great staff and a great farm shop (I currently have some Cornish Yarg in my fridge from my last trip). I’ve never had breakfast there but will on my next trip in September as that looked great. Can I set you a challenge Lee? Can you do a long journey within England and Wales just doing 3 simple things. Firstly only use the Instavolt or MFG charging network. Secondly don’t start charging until your battery is below 30% charge and, as the guy from Ionity suggested finish charging at no higher than 80%. These are the way The Clan say is the best for an EV driver. Be fascinating to see how you get on. 🤔

    Hi Lee, I’m loving these latest videos but can’t help thinking about the levels of stress and frustration you must be enduring! I’m at Tebay fairly regularly and noticed how busy the charging points are becoming. It must waste so much time waiting for a charge if you’re in a queue ( where the next available space could be nearly an hour waiting time). Not to mention the money on needless coffees etc! I imagine an all electric car is ok for very short town drives but I’m not hurrying to buy one until the range, speed of charge or infrastructure improves significantly. Thanks as always Lee for giving us these really good videos.

  • @gjwilson
    @gjwilson ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I don’t drive, as it’s cheaper for me to get a bus to work. Where I live, Stagecoach have a full fleet of EV buses, but when the buses come into the station and park up, the charger automatically lowers down from the roof to attach to the top of the bus to start the charging process. But recently the chargers have been failing (perhaps due to the hot weather I don’t know) but it only connects to the bus for like 10-20 secs and then disconnects itself. If it loses charge away from the station, it’s a good 10 miles away so no way of charging it to get it back home

    Interesting point about companies taking charity money on round up of bills.
    My rule is, ALWAYS give DIRECT to charity companies, never use an intermediate company ( or commisioned street collectors... I. E. The fast harry street charity people who try to get you to sign up to a standing order for donations... They take a massive commision).
    Also people like Tesco will do the round up thing for charity..... They then make a big deal of how much they've raised for the charity and get a load of free publicity for being so charitable.... When infact it's there customers who donated the money).
    Sorry for my rant!
    Cheers
    Phil

The last time I went the choices were 6 items, 8 items or 10 items (plus toast of course), and they were some unusual choices such as lorne sausage (not on all the time but it was well gorgeous). I’ve no problem giving my change for them as I’ve seen the good work that they do when my grandson was in Manchester children’s hospital needing a bone marrow transplant. He’s all good now but without the Ronald McDonald house my son and his other half would’ve been stranded away from home and nowhere to stay apart from expensive hotels.they’re at all the childrens hospitals I think and are all funded by those donations from the small change people leave at McDonald’s. No government funding. Enjoying watching your vlogs keep up the good work 👍👍👍

    👍🏼
    Their Lattes are lovely but not from the machines they’ve put there recently. Through work I pass (and pop in) to them both regularly and it makes mrs jealous 😂
    Gloucester services on the M5 are twinned with Tebay

    I met a lady in Corfu in 2020 , her husband was an inventor, she told me he was working on putting chargers in something like the cat's eyes along the roads so you somehow absorb a charge as you are driving .

    Charity begins at home. Aldi beans are definately the best.
    I never put sauce of any kind on a cooked breakfast when beans are on the plate

    Love your videos, I agree you will need loads of chargers just for electric and if I'm on you can get some good miles with hybrid cars

    Great breakfast - I often go to Teebay - easily best “service station”.
    Clearly 10 out of 10.

    Lpg in Oz is great around 50pence/ litre which is half price of petrol. Had my car for over 10 years which is also a good size to sleep in. Some cars are hybrid lpg/petrol which some people seem to like in case of starting problems and fuel back up.

    Great video,as per usual and I totally agree with you on this EV madness. Like yourself, I think a hybrid system is the way forward with hydrogen,as you mention. I have a Clio E Tech and I love it although obviously it would eventually have to go ( I presume) as it uses a conventional engine. Interestingly enough, I have just finished watching TH-camr RSymons RSEV who went from - guess where?- John O'Groats to Lands End in a Tesla Model S Long Range in 15 hrs 24 mins driving continuously from 5am. It was an attempt to beat a previous record which he achieved. He had the luxury of the full Tesla system which gave all the Tesla charging points along the way (on this humongous screen) and how much charge he would have left. He did four stops in total, including Abington and Tebay, and didn't charge to the max at each stop by any means, just enough to get him to the next point, which, with the Tesla system is pre calculated. At one stop he showed you how to use the charging gun, plugged it in and that was that! No setting up payment, so does the Tesla costing system automatically kick in...? At each charging point there was a vacant Tesla charger except one where he had to share, giving a reduced charging rate....Interesting, don't you think...So there you have it; If you want to travel any distance and experience EV heaven, buy a Tesla and all your troubles are over. Any other car/ system, forget it! Give it a look and see what you think, i'm still not convinced.

    I can see into the future - in 50 years time everyone will be driving EV vehicles, however they will be overweight because of the food they are eating whilst they are waiting and will all look 10 years older due too the stress of trying to find a charger that works.So your two weeks holiday will consist of travelling from Mansfield to Cornwall[ for example ] this will take 4 days there and 4 days back leaving you , 6 days to try and enjoy going around the coast again looking for bloody chargers. Great video mate , hope you called into Stoke for some oatcakes when you left Sandbach ,even Stevie Wonder can see that these EVs dont work

    8 petrol pumps can service 80 cars an hour. To service the same number of half hour EV charges means 40 chargers!
