I had to chuckle. I am a stained glass artist and whenever I would do something stupid and get frustrated, I would break my glass. It didn’t take me long to learn to walk away! That glass is expensive!

Invest in some Rapid Tac. It will make putting your 651 on so simple. The 651 doesn't still but rather slides where you want it and then it will stick

@@TouchofClassCreations I am doing them and making gift sets with potholders and my reds are giving me problems. They press fine on poly and when I press on the glass they look more orangey red to me. Driving me insane. I've done a ton before no issues but these reds are killing me here. So I'm using black potholders and htv to make it look like the reds are not so off instead of the red potholders 😂
I use rapid tac to lay the vinyl down it also helps the vinyl adhere better and the truck I found is use dollar tree permanent vinyl because it's less sticky. I saw no difference between the 1.25 , oracal 651 or cricut vinyl
@@Jessica-wl3of that’s crazy the reds are doing that, it amazes me sometimes we can do something so long and suddenly for some reason we have weird problems…. Was doin an apron today and layering white htv over silver and for the life of me could not get the white to stick, so something’s up with this silver, but layered a million times and no issue 🤷♂️ creative way to darken the colors though😂

@@patriciaperry2246 yes, did at 385 degrees, and in 45 second increments until the color gets where u want it. Usually at least 135 seconds, usually at least 180, sometimes more. So you can go 90 seconds and then check, and keep checking every 45 seconds until desired color

You need to have the picture on top in your heat press next to the heat plate. It will work using only 90 seconds. Make sure you use heat tape to hold down the picture in place.

I use Rapid Tac Vinyl wrap application spray. If adjustments need made it is easy to lift and adjust. It also helps get bubbles out easier. It's a little pricey... but worth it. :D

I use nothing but a couple drops of dawn in a spray bottle of water and I have never had a problem, I have made atleast 100 of these

Thank you for watching, I have not done too much with raw wood, we do make a sticking hangar at Christmas time, but not subbed, just using vinyl and door knobs and wood, ran out of time to do video on that before holidays, but I will add that one to the list!

Awesome video! I have done some of these and found the sublimation paper to be terribly hard to remove. I did not try to remove it until it was cold though so I will try your method of removing it while it is still somewhat hot. Thanks!!
I put about an inch of warm water in the sink, and once the glass cools put it in the water and let it soak for 5-10 minutes, it peels right off.

I also use the text print paper but it sticks to the boards. any suggestions? I may be heating it to long and what temperature are you using
So I usually do these for about 90 seconds at 385, and then start checking at 45 second increments. In this video, I believe I checked every 45 seconds from start. Basically though its probably gonna be a total of 180 seconds or more, so if your using the same paper and method, it shouldn't stick any worse than mine did. I think the key is the break in between each press, and keep in mind the paper goes on the bottom and then your glass laying on top of that, that should also help prevent the paper from sticking, let me know if that helps!!
Stick tape to the sticky residue then pull it up, it comes off alot easier than using alcohol

The ones with pics look more faded than the ines with graphics, I was just looking at that same one with my kids on it the other day and wondering if I reheat it, if the ink would ouch back again, I may try it, and will update if I do….. but yes after 3 years it is a bit faded, can still see the pic ok, but def faded
Was this white 651 that you sublimated on? It looked white to me and not clear. This is EXACTLY what I was looking for to make a wedding present. So excited!!
Yes, this was white 651, not clear, however keep in mind the sub came through to the sticky side of vinyl, the other side is super faded, so I believe u would have to sublimate for less time, or use laminate over the 651 like in the cup videos, depending on what I were trying to do, but like this or anything similar I recommend white 651 for best colors
Don't know if I missed it or not, but what was your temp and total time it took? Your tutorials are very easy to understand.
Don’t know how I missed your message, here is the time...So it’s 385 for 90 seconds to start and then u can begin checking every 45 seconds or so till your colors are coming through nicely, usually 180 to 220 seconds
So you remove the sub print along with the HTV and the sublimation image remains on the cutting board?
No, the sub print comes off, vinyl stays on, but is on underside of glass, not cutting surface, image goes to back side(sticky side of vinyl)

Thank you so much for watching! Yes, I do find that after about 2 or 3 years the image is not quite as sharp, seems like it bleeds back to the bottom side of the cutting glass
How does it work after washing etc does the vinyl come off and does the sublimation fade etc -
As long as u aren’t submerging in water for extended time it should hold up fine. We use ours more decoratively, however have not had any complaints from anyone either!
When I use the oracle white 651 my background looks white. How is yours transparent?
That must have been an optical illusion or camera trick, I had to go back and rewatch as this was a couple years ago, the background is actually green in that design, I believe it just looked kinda transparent by the camera angle, def a green background though, u could use clear oracal, but unless u have a white toner printer anywhere there would be white will be clear
If you leave the vinyl on the paper and only pull enough paper off to stick an edge, as you peel the paper off the vinyl it will lay flat and no wrinkles or bubbles
That’s even better than window cleaner and squeegee, lol, although I normally don’t have that much difficulty, that was a rough day in the shop😂

I tried this method and when I pulled my paper up the vinyl was still sticking to it. Would this be because i needed to press longer, pressed too long, or didn’t wait long enough before removing?
It could be the paper, or the length of time pressing, hard to say for sure, I have heard a lot of people say the paper sticks so could be the brand too, now I also check every 45-90 seconds after the first 90 seconds and maybe the break in heat might help. Try pressing for 90 seconds, and then check it every 45 seconds after to see when your image is how u like. Then try the peel and see if that works. How long are I waiting to peel?

No, I don’t believe so, I have done with both and haven’t noticed too much of a difference with these

I am sorry but that was a combination of several different fonts, and although the design is saved I am not entirely certain which exact of each font was used. It was done a few years ago, and pretty sure that was a creative fabrica or one of the many packs I used design

Im not sure on the cricut easy press 2, I dont know the size, as long as it will heat to the correct temp, and will cover the entire area I do not see why not. My press in the video is a Heat press nation Signature series sure press 15x15 swing away

@@darleneharper3772 for whatever reason the ink transfer to the vinyl, and through to the back side(sticky side) so if u look on the bottom of the cutting board it looks really faded like a sub transfer paper after u press ink out of it. I’m not sure exactly why it works, ( I know why sublimation works)
but the white vinyl acts like the white ink so image comes through pretty good!

I am new to all that is crafting. would I be able to do the same with printable vinyl? Is sublimation better because it last longer?
Well I believe the ink is different with sublimation, vs printable vinyl, in this method the ink is soaking from the front side of the vinyl through to the sticky side, to where the front side looks faded. I do not know if regular printer ink and printable vinyl will achieve the same effect, unless u sub the printable vinyl, in that case it’s cheaper to use oracal vinyl then

Hello, and thank you, I am sorry, I am not too familiar with the Cricut infusible ink, I have never used it, although from what I have read it is about the same as sublimation so I would think it should work!

My vinyl still showed on edges and the back side- to the point I worried about it coming off so I put mod podge on. Did I do something wrong?
How do u mean it still showed on the backside? The vinyl is adhered to the cutting board, as long as there is no excess hanging over the sides it should stay as long as your not soaking it in water or putting in the dishwasher, I don’t think it’s a problem that u used mod podge, when I make them personally there are more decorative so I don’t wash them at all, so I don’t have a need personally to mod podge or seal them, of course if your using them for food purposes I would follow instructions, for example mod podge I believe takes 28 days to sit/cure before it is “food safe”, although I would not quote me on that for sure, read the label is your best bet

Hey there, thanks for watching and stalking, lol, we really appreciate it!! So I use an epson et 2760 ( I believe off hand, not at home currently) and a sawgrass for sublimation, I use both from the silhouette program, I do not have any special settings for my epson, but I don’t use it for sublimation, only for printable vinyl and things like that. I usually print on vivid, or high setting on my Epson. Let me know what epson u have and I may be able to help find the printer settings u need. For the cutting boards, We typically sell them anywhere from $8 -$12. Hope this helps!!
I tried this and initially it looked great. But now after a month or two the images seem to be blurry. Would HTV work better or even Siser Easy Subl?
I am not too sure, the one in the video there I did the prior year and it sat on my desk half the year and in a tub the other half, I have only ever made them with oracal 651 and never seemed to fade, do u know if u used oracal or something different like paper studio, that the only difference I could think, or possibly you did not sublimate long enough, or too long? I’ll double check mine when I get a chance as it’s been another year or so since I posted that initially
Yes, it was Oracle 651. I’ve seen on some Facebook groups that they have the same problem
Great video. I did this process some time ago with soap & water and a few months later the image is all blurry. It has never been used or washed. How has your image held up. I'm wondering if it is the rapid tac. I've just ordered some and hopefully that will be better.
I apply vinyl with small amount of windex, and that’s about it, haven’t washed either, but didn’t use any solution other than a small amount of windex

What type of sublimation printer do you use and why?
I use a sawgrass sg400, and I use it because when I first got into sublimation I didn’t want to mess around with converting a printer or filling/refilling ink, and I liked the fact that it does it’s own maintenance, if I don’t print for 2 weeks or a month it doesn’t clog up the heads or lines, i had it for almost a year and half and didn’t barely use it and still printed like I printed everyday, and I’m able to find refill for much cheaper than the sawgrass ink and works as well and u don’t have to fool the printer to think the ink is real
Has anyone tried the Dollar Tree permanent vinyl for sublimation on the glass cutting boards?
I have not yet, we bought some but I haven’t played with it yet, hopefully soon!! Will update when I do!!

The sticky side of vinyl will be on the bottom of the cutting board, so not mirror, and make sure to check as I did in the video and leave long enough for the image to come through nicely! Thank you for watching and for the support!
No, you don't mirror the image for this process.
Can I do the same procedure for acrylic?
The idea should work in theory because the sublimation is going into the vinyl, the only issue would be the acrylic holding up to the heat for the length of time, I do not work with acrylic so do not know if it would soften being under the heat press for couple minutes at 350+ degrees?
What program are you using to do this cutting board

What would you seal it with if I wanted to use as a cutting board?
If I were going to seal it I would either use mod podge or spray sealer
I wouldn't use a sealer, just don't submerge in water or put in dishwasher. Use regular washing methods and dry thoroughly. It's just like if you put a vinyl decal on your car, you don't seal those with anything. The side that has the print is on the bottom of the cutting board and will not come in contact with food, and it shouldn't peel off, as it is permanent vinyl.
I never heard you say what temperature just the time. What's the temp you use?

I haven't, and I have some I need to try to, that I got to try for some stickers that I haven't got to play with yet

Hello, thanks for watching and great question, in this case, I was doing that to watch the image and know when the image had bled through enough to be seen clearly, I was playing around with a lot of different substrates as I do to find alternate ways of trying our crafts, and it was simply to keep me from having to keep flipping the glass over, picture images and text images also would come through differently, much like over/under cooking black. Also keep the paper from browning to much for the extended time of cooking since it was more than 60 seconds, but didn’t know how long🤷♂️

If you are looking for a 5 in one I would recommend this one, I still have it and use the press and attachments, best no name press I’ve ever used, have better ones now but I still keep this around, so for 5 in 1 this is the only one I’ve tried amzn.to/3nbeETO

@@mistyjones4194 absolutely not, that 12x15 was my first heat press starting out, I now have a 15x15 swing away, a 20x20 clamshell, and a 15x15 clamshell, the only 5 in one with attachments I’ve owned is that one, so that is the only one I can safely refer with attachments, it’s a decent starter press though for fairly cheap, but I highly recommend going bigger than 12x15 or be prepared to upgrade! I chose to start for inexpensive then turned profit back into upgrading equipment

In most cases yes, however in this case with the glass and the image coming through the vinyl, doing it this way allows u to monitor the image and stop when the image is to your liking. You could do the other way and I would imagine the image may come through a little faster.

$8-$10 is what we do on the cutting boards, I’m sure you could go more if you wanted. I believe I edited this video in Adobe premiere rush. It was that or iMovie, but I think I only did the first 3 videos in iMovie, so yeah, Adobe premiere rush I believe. And thanks for watching!!
What program are you using to create the image?
I mainly use silhouette studio for most of my design, Very little photo shop and paint 3-D as well, this picture here was just taken on iPhone and uploaded to silhouette and printed exactly as u see, that in the video is silhouette studio business edition, I apologize, I should have expanded on that, I made the video so long ago I don’t remember if I specify that, I will add a link as well in the description, as I did not think of that before, lol🤦🏻♂️

Hello, thank you! I am not sure have never tried, although I don’t think it would be good to expose the vinyl to the high heat of the dishwasher, but I can’t say for sure.
Can you do this without a heat press
For the sublimation to work you would need a heat press, or at minimal probably a Cricut easy press. I have not tried these with any other methods.

So it’s 385 for 90 seconds to start and then u can begin checking every 45 seconds or so till your colors are coming through nicely, usually 180 to 220 seconds

Curious question, could the laminate, oracle be done on Cell phone cases?
I don’t see why it wouldn’t work, although they do make sublimatable cell phone cases, but if you just wanted to decorate an existing case, I don’t see why the same thing wouldn’t work here…printable vinyl might work well for that too!
@@TouchofClassCreations I seen that they sublimate 'em, I change my case a lot cuz I like variety so changing the laminate one out would be a lot cheaper lol. Thanks! I'ma give it a try, think I'll make that my first test when my printer gets here. Xd
@@midnightrider9904 let me know how it works out, I have put vinyl words on phone case before, my kids frequently like to change out too, so I know the vinyl should stick fine, and don’t see why laminate wouldn’t hold up.

No, I put it on the bottom. U put on bottom and then sublimate the bottom

Have you ever tried clear instead of white Oracle 651?
I ordered some and tried quickly once, didn’t quite turn out how I wanted, am planning on trying it for some stickers, it works, problem is absence of white can make colors or design a little different than using the white

is my paper not releasing on the back because i used cricut white vinyl and not oracal???
I’m not too sure, I’ve only used oracal, could be the paper as well, I use texprint r, not sure what kind your using, but u could also try reducing the heat and see if that helps. Will the paper scrub off in the sink, it shouldn’t fade the image?

let the glass cool then submerse it in a sink of water. Some papers release after 15 mins like Cheap Koala paper, some papers take longer but if you just leave it in the water for a hour or so, peeling the paper away is EZ

I do not seal mine, although I use mainly for decorative purposes, if u plan to use as cutting board u could seal, I don’t seal the cups and as long as u don’t wash in dishwasher or leave soaking in water they hold up good. So I don’t but if you plan on washing it frequently you may want to
I don’t understand the what you did, that vinyl is sublimation?….which side you sublimated.?
Hello, sorry about the delay in response, that was regular oracal 651 vinyl and sublimated the non sticky side and the picture came through to the sticky side which u see through the cutting board
It would be great if you put printable instructions so we could print after watch, just a idea
I would definitely love to do that, and maybe in the future when I am able to do this full time I can, right now as u can see I barely have time to get new videos up, and the ones I do even have up I barely put graphics with steps in which I like to do!! It is a great idea however, I just don’t currently have the time! 🤞for the future!!
