This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Mini Cooper S 5-door premium compact car.In Canada, we call it the 5-door but in the US, it’s the 4-door. Either way, you’ll have a lot of fun in this new model. The 5-door/4-door comes with two engine options and a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The base engine is a 1.5L turbocharged 3-cylinder with 134 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. The Cooper S we are driving has a 2L turbocharged 4-cylinder with 189 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The 5-door/4-door Cooper S offers a dynamic, engaging and lively drive. In the city, it’s easy to manoeuvre in and out of traffic and those tight parking spots are a breeze, it combines driving fun and practicality all in one. This MINI has the qualities of a small car but more spacious and comfortable for passengers and luggage. The wheelbase is 2.8 inches longer than the MINI 3-door and has an increased body length of 6.3 inches. It offers 1.5 inches more second row legroom and an extra 4.4 cubic feet behind the second row. In overall cargo capacity, it gains 6.7 cubic feet. This MINI doesn’t come with a lot of standard features, but you do get a standard 8.8” touchscreen, a 5.5” digital instrument cluster and leatherette seating. One up from the base in the Premier trim, Signature in the US includes, heated front seats, Apple Carplay, there is no Android Auto and a panoramic sunroof. The heated steering wheel is standard in the Premier trim but in the US, you have to move up one more trim to the Iconic to get the heated steering wheel. We are testing the Cooper S 5-door with the Premier + package for $8,600 CAD, it comes with a head-up display, wireless charger and a Nappa leather heated steering wheel plus all the features in the Premier package. It also has grey leather upholstery for an extra $2,250 CAD. Our test model is $43,630 CAD. The Cooper S 5-door/4-door starts at $30,090 CAD/$27,900 USD. For fuel economy, this MINI gets 8.9L/100km, 28 MPG city and 6.6L/100km, 38 MPG highway.
