This looks like a visual novel that Tom Hanks would invent in the movie BIG. Great review!

@@IDreamofIndie There's so many of these on PSN that it is possible I might look another one up in the future. Only reason I checked this out was because of Cthulhu.
Sony probably added 100+ of these things to the monthly PS Plus downloads but nobody played them, so they stopped doing it. I think I only enjoyed 2 of them; Issac and This War Of Mine. They also dominate weekly sales/deals and also PS Now. I'm truly sick of them saturating the digital store.
I also bought a lot but only really played; Outward and Darkest Dungeon. Of the ones I bought and abandoned almost immediately; Long Dark, Darkwood, Prison Architect, Terraria, Don't Starve, Outer Wilds were all highly rated but extremely dull imo.
I'd rather just avoid them and buy AAA tbh. This stuff might work on PC where there's a lower threshold (due to lack of quality) but after 3 decades of suffering poor computer titles I abandoned the platform permanently in 2009.

First screen in the game the developers apologize for Lovecraft's "problematic" views. I've actually read Lovecraft and there is literally nothing "problematic" in his works. I'm sick of wke developers making money off my favorite horror author while insulting him and his legacy. I swear, the way these people talk you'd think Lovecraft had slaves in the basement which he whipped every day while wearing a klan mask. Developers, SHUT THE FK UP.
As if that weren't enough, the game DOESN'T take place in late 19th century, early 20th century, AS YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM A LOVECRAFT GAME. The developers felt the need to "modernize" it with cringe inserted current day stuff like internet, phones, etc. It's done extremely poorly. A Lovecraft game should NOT feel like it was written by Taika Waititi on crack. Tone is everything.
Developers are sitting on a goldmine with Lovecraft, yet the only ones making games are the ones who hate Lovecraft. Read the story instead.

I think most of them use his work because it’s public domain. Most people who play/watch/read anything lovecraftian are more than likely fans anyway so don’t know why they would apologise. Personally if I felt someone had radically different views to my own I wouldn’t make a game based off their work. I am enjoying this game at the minute. I’m determined to see every single representation of the ‘innsmouth look’ that’s ever created. I even look for it in real life. I’ve seen so many fish faced folk in my years.

@@powerbelly211 just finished Whisperer in The Darkness and I'm really struggling to see where Lovecraft was this overt racist dude. I bet leftists would cancel Karl May or even Jules Verne.

If you get the chance. Read Alan Moore’s courtyard and providence. That’s my favourite lovecraft adaptation. It’s a little rude in some parts but overall really good.

His paranoia and xenophobia is reflected in his works. Look at his cat's name, and his personal ideology. He was a very isolated man, and as for the game, it's important that it is inclusive as otherwise it limits the amount of customers it can attract. "Woke" isn't a bad thing here, as we wouldn't prefer 19th Century ideals.
The game is also a comedy. Play Sinking City if you want a more accurate Innsmouth game.
