    Can't believe I got this plug-in for free Mark. Thanks to your heads up. Really impressed with Plugin Alliance. Have since bought the AMEK 9909 which you brought up a couple of weeks ago. The Plugin Alliance $29/mo deal where you get to choose ANY plugin for $1 when on $29/mo plan is a freaking no brainer.

      Yeah man. The plug in alliance stuff is really blowing up my world in the best way. I’m starting to use them over my old UAD on everything. I’m thinking I may do the $29 deal for a couple of months when they filter in the Isotope plugs to the deal. The Focusrite for free is hands down a VO total score.

    So far I'm really impressed with this, sounds great actually, I'm trying to figure out how to make a preset, most plugins will allow you to save a presa and name it and I can't figure out how to do that with this one, I'm kind of thinking that option is not available and that's pretty crappy when you look at how expensive these plugins are, I got it for free but I did see what they normally charge for this thing so they should at least give you the option to make a preset. I'm hoping I'm just too dumb to figure it out

      If you’re running it in your daw save the settings in your daw template.

    Do they make a version for UAD? I have not been able to find this on my own. The plugin is Much cheaper then the hardware ISA 430 Mkii channel strip. If not then I will pick up the hardware.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, they do not. The closest UAD channel strip would probably be the Neve 88rs.

  • @Firstinversion899

    Great review! I just discovered plug-in alliance and it seems like no one talks about this question: how do you set optimal levels on your audio interface so plug-ins, and especially channel strips, get the best Signal to noise ratio and working audio level? No reviews of channel strip plugs talk about this, but it seems crucial. In my case I am using an Apollo twin MK two. Without calibration it is obvious that my UAD manly vox box sounds far superior to any of the console plug-ins, but I am betting that that’s because I am making a noob error by not setting my input levels correctly. Thanks!

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So, I don't really have a hard and fast rule how to calibrate, but instead just go by my ears and try to get the cleanest signal in before clipping. It's really a method that I carry with me from the all-analog days. Going into the Apollo, with nothing in unison, I try to get a level that peaks at 6 on the loudest part of my signal. If you have the Voxbox in, just use the PreOut meter setting and shoot for barely going above 0db on that same loudest part of your signal. Then downstream, any plug in you add to the chain, like the Focusrite, try to keep the output level around 12 at peak. You'll see the OVL indicator light up if you overload the circuit. Go with your ears, it may take some practice to hit your sweet spot, but you'll find it. There are a lot of videos on YT about how to generally set levels so you can use those as a jumping off point to find the right gain settings for you.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Thanks tons!!!!🙏. I know level setting on a variety of different mixers, including old Mackie mixers, but I wondered if there was some thing in the digital round that was more specific. Your suggestions are super helpful and I really appreciate them. Have a good one!

    What microphone do you use?

  • @knorke3642
    @knorke3642 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So..I´ve downloaded the Focusrite SC and used it for my VO work just this morning and despite having to use a whole lot of different settings due to the fact that I only have a small condenser Neumann KM...something at the moment, the channel strip worked beautifully. Still got to get used to it, obvioulsy, but on the whole a worthy contender for an all in one VO solution. Thanx Mark. : )By the way... have you ever tested the Audio Technica AT4040? If not...That Mic ist a rather good sounding and "cheap" alternative to the UM87...Plus...Audio Technica gives a lifetime warranty...not too shabby for a 400$ microphone. Check it out.

      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s awesome you gigged with it already. They should be marketing it to VO peeps everywhere. I haven’t had a chance to use a 4040 yet. Tried a 4047 once and it wasn’t my thing but now I’m intrigued to try a 4040 at some point.
